The demand for urban transport: An application of discrete choice model for Cadiz
The study of the demand for transport has among others applications, the valuation of travel time saving that is a very important question in cost-benefit analysis, and to adopt transport policy tools. Since McFadden developed a discrete choice model for travel demand, it has usually been the application of this model to study the individual behaviour when he has to choice among transport modes. Citizens of big cities have to face traffic congestion; pollution, wasted time in travels and fuel, noise, stress and accidents are the costs imposed by congestion to society, elements that reduce the quality of life in cities. Public transport is a real alternative to private transport that is socially less expensive, for this reason this paper tries to forecast travel demand for public transport in Cadiz when travelling have to choice between public or private transport, using a discrete choice model. The results of this analysis (travel demand, value of time, elasticities) can be used to design transport policies that could reduce congestion.
Stern-Gerlach Entanglement in Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates
Entanglement of spin and position variables produced by spatially
inhomogeneous magnetic fields of Stern-Gerlach type acting on spinor
Bose-Einstein condensates may lead to interference effects at the level of
one-boson densities. A model is worked out for these effects which is amenable
to analytical calculation for gaussian shaped condensates. The resulting
interference effects are sensitive to the spin polarization properties of the

Non-Hermitian robust edge states in one-dimension: Anomalous localization and eigenspace condensation at exceptional points
Capital to topological insulators, the bulk-boundary correspondence ties a
topological invariant computed from the bulk (extended) states with those at
the boundary, which are hence robust to disorder. Here we put forward an
ordering unique to non-Hermitian lattices, whereby a pristine system becomes
devoid of extended states, a property which turns out to be robust to disorder.
This is enabled by a peculiar type of non-Hermitian degeneracy where a
macroscopic fraction of the states coalesce at a single point with geometrical

One-way quantum computing in superconducting circuits
We propose a method for the implementation of one-way quantum computing in
superconducting circuits. Measurement-based quantum computing is a universal
quantum computation paradigm in which an initial cluster-state provides the
quantum resource, while the iteration of sequential measurements and local
rotations encodes the quantum algorithm. Up to now, technical constraints have
limited a scalable approach to this quantum computing alternative. The initial
cluster state can be generated with available controlled-phase gates, while the
quantum algorithm makes use of high-fidelity readout and coherent feedforward.
With current technology, we estimate that quantum algorithms with above 20
qubits may be implemented in the path towards quantum supremacy. Moreover, we
propose an alternative initial state with properties of maximal persistence and
maximal connectedness, reducing the required resources of one-way quantum

Differentiation of Trichuris species using a morphometric approach
Trichuris trichiura is a nematode considered as the whipworm present in humans and primates. The systematics of the genus Trichuris is complex. Morphological studies of Trichuris isolated from primates and humans conclude that the species infecting these hosts is the same. Furthermore, numerous molecular studies have been carried out so far to discriminate parasite species from humans and Non-Human Primates using molecular techniques, but these studies were not performed in combination with a parallel morphological study. The hypothesised existence of more species of Trichuris in primates opens the possibility to revise the zoonotic potential and host specificity of T. trichiura and other putative new species of whipworms. In the present work, a study of Trichuris Roederer, 1761 (Nematoda:Trichuridae) parasitizing C. g. kikuyensis, P. ursinus, Macaca sylvanus, Pan troglodytes, and Sus scrofa domestica has been carried out using modern morphometric techniques in order to differentiate populations of Trichuris isolated from four species of captive NHP from different geographical regions, and swine, respectively. The results obtained revealed strong support for geometrical morphometrics as a useful tool to differentiate male Trichuris populations. Therefore, morphometrics in combination with other techniques, such as molecular biology analyses, ought to be applied to further the differentiation of male populations. The transition to irreversibility in sheared suspensions: An analysis based on a mesoscopic entropy production
We study the shear-induced diffusion effect and the transition to
irreversibility in suspensions under oscillatory shear flow by performing an
analysis of the entropy production associated to the motion of the particles.
We show that the Onsager coupling between different contributions to the
entropy production is responsible for the scaling of the mean square
displacement on particle diameter and applied strain. We also show that the
shear-induced effective diffusion coefficient depends on the volume fraction
and use Lattice-Boltzmann simulations to characterize the effect through the
power spectrum of particle positions for different Reynolds numbers and volume
fractions. Our study gives a thermodynamic explanation of the the transition to
irreversibility through a pertinent analysis of the second law of
