Very good early plant vigour, tan type leaf sheath pigmentation, drooping leaf orientation, straw glume colour, ½ glume covering, oval grain shape, intermediate endosperm texture appeared in all the 4 check. The results of this study indicated that considerable genetic diversity exists among the sorghum accessions

Natural isotopic composition of nitrogen in suspended particulate matter in the Bay of Bengal

    No full text
International audienceWe present the first measurement of nitrogen isotopic composition (?15N) in suspended particulate matter (SPM) of the surface Bay of Bengal (BOB) at 24 different locations during pre- (April?May 2003) and post- (September?October 2002) monsoon seasons. The ?15N of particulate organic nitrogen (PON) in surface suspended matter of coastal as well as northern open BOB shows signatures of a two end-member mixing between continental inputs and marine sources. Dilution by the organic and detrital continental material brought in by rivers leads to consistently lower ?15N, evident from the relationship between surface salinity and ?15N. ?15N of surface PON of open ocean locations during both seasons, and also at coastal locations during pre-monsoon suggest the nitrate from deeper waters as a predominant source of nutrient for planktons. The depth profiles of ?15N of SPM during pre-monsoon season at nine different locations are also presented. These indicate an increase in ?15N by a maximum of 2.8? between euphotic depth and 300 m, which is lower than that observed in the eastern Indian Ocean, indicating the role of higher sinking rates of particles ballasted by aggregates of organic and mineral matter in BOB

Studies on P-glycoprotein expression and function have revealed that a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the human ABCB1 gene at 3435 (C > T) results in altered expression and function of P-glycoprotein [1, 2].There have been reports of lower nelfinavir and efavirenz (EFV) concentrations associated with TT genotypes (mutant) of ABCB1 C3435T polymorphism [3, 4].Frequency distribution of this polymorphism is known to vary across populations [3, 5, 6]. We report the genotype distribution of ABCB1 C3435T in 179 individuals (126 HIV-infected and 53 healthy) from South India. The polymorphism was correlated with plasma 12 h EFV and 2 h nevirapine (NVP) concentrations in 55 and 71 patients, respectively. Plasma EFV and NVP were estimated by HPLC [7, 8]. Genotyping was carried out by PCR-RFLP [9]

Medical image analysis is the most demanding technology now days. The proposed system performs automatic cataract from the digital eye image and retinal fundus images. The proposed system has developed a new technique with a set of algorithms. Currently, methods available for cataract detection are only based on certain features, but medical images may have heterogeneous feature set; the main motive behind this work is to develop less iterative, effective multi-feature based eye image analysis and cataract detection from the color images of eye and retinal fundus images. An algorithm is proposed for Cataract Screening based on the retinal features, veins, blood vessels, and artery. These features are used to analyze and classify the eye into specific class. To achieve this set of algorithms have proposed. The proposed system performs the pre-processing step initially, and then the feature selection from the preprocessed images is then initially classified using the Kernel Hyper Support Vector Machine (KHSVM). The results from the KHSVM, the effective features are applied into the modified genetic algorithm named as IIGA (Iterative Intensity Genetic Algorithm); this performs a new type of gene selection from the KHSVM features. Instead of selecting the random features, the proposed system gets the features from the KHSVM result. The proposed system achieves better results than the existing works. The proposed system is implemented in Matlab tool with several eye images. The experimented result shows the proposed system achieved better detection than the existing techniques

    Get PDF
An investigation was carried out to study the effect of post harvest treatments and harvesting stage on vase life and flower quality of cut Oriental lily cv. Avocado. The results showed that highest vase life (15.83 days) and vase solution uptake (49.17 ml) was recorded with sucrose (2%) + 5-SSA (200ppm), whereas maximum flower diameter (15.17 cm) was recorded in vase solution containing sucrose (2%) + 5-SSA (100ppm). Earliest opening of florets (4.42 days) reported under sucrose (2%) + 5-SSA (200ppm). Effect of treatments was found non-significant in respect to opening of florets. Harvesting at green bud stage exhibited extended vase life (14.33 days) and higher vase solution uptake (40.43 ml), whereas maximum flower diameter (14.25 cm) recorded at 75% colour development stage. Based on the results it is concluded that 5-SSA could be an inexpensive and potential chemical for delaying senescence and for extending the keeping quality of cut liliums commercially

    Get PDF
The notion of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets was first introduced by Atanassov and Gargov as a generalization of both interval-valued fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets. Satyanarayana et. al., applied the concept of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy ideals to BF-algebras. In this paper, we introduce the notion of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy homomorphism of BF-algebras and investigate some interesting properties. Keywords: BF-algebras, interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets, i-v intuitionistic fuzzy ideals

Moisture management properties of eri silk knitted fabrics

    Get PDF
Moisture management and wicking properties of eri silk knitted fabrics have been studied. Three different knit structures, namely single jersey, single pique and honeycomb, have been developed with the combination of two different yarn countand tightness level. The fabrics developed are analyzed in terms of wetting time, spreading speed, absorption rate, andmaximum wetting radius, accumulative one way transport index (AOTI) and overall moisture management capacity(OMMC). It is discerned that the variables, such as yarn count, fabric tightness and knitting structure, have a significantinfluence on the wicking and moisture management properties. The OMMC indexes of eri silk knitted fabric are found torange from ‘very good’ to “excellent’ category, which indicates the suitability of eri silk yarn to skin fit as well as activewear applications

An Integrated Pedal Follower and Torque Based Approach for Electronic Throttle Control in a Motorcycle Engine

    Get PDF
Nowadays, electronic throttle control system is widely adapted in the motorcycle for better drivability, fuel economy and reduces the emissions. In such systems, pedal follower or torque based approach are used for calculating the required throttle angle for the given torque demand by driver. This work presents a throttle control system for the precise estimation of throttle angle based on the integrated pedal follower and torque based approach for the given accelerator position and torque demand by the driver. A mathematical model for an electronic throttle body is developed to understand the effects of nonlinearities due to friction and limp home dual springs. A PID controller with compensators are developed to handle the nonlinearities due to the friction and limp home dual springs in the proposed electronic throttle control system. A simulation study has been carried out using software in loop and hardware in loop simulation approaches for step, sinusoidal, and ramp input signals. The responses of electronic throttle body for opening the throttle angle and error are analyzed for the given input signals. The simulation result shows that the proposed compensators has significant advantage in reducing the throttle angle error and gives the desired output

The silver pompano, Trachinotus blochii is recognised as a promising species for mariculture. In India, broodstock development, controlled breeding and seed production of silver pompano was achieved for the first time at Mandapam Regional Centre of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. Sub-adult fishes collected from the wild were grown in circular sea cages of 6 m diameter and 3.5 m depth. Twelve fishes were selected from a sea cage and acclimatized to laboratory conditions. Among these, four fishes (1 female and 3 males) were pre-conditioned to sexual maturity in a 10 t FRP tank with photoperiod control facility (2000 lux; 14 L: 10 D). In about 2 months, the gonads reached right stage for spawning. The brooders were administered human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) intramuscularly, at a dosage of 350 IU kg body weight-1. A total of 5 experiments were conducted and successful spawnings were obtained resulting in the production of fertilized eggs. The time taken for spawning ranged from 30-36 h. The total number of eggs spawned ranged from 0.08 to 0.184 million. The fertilization percentage varied from 75 to 95. Freshly spawned eggs measured above 900 μ. The success obtained in all the consecutive five experiments indicated that predictable spawnings of pompano could be achieved by employing the techniques developed
