    AUDIENCE PERCEPTION OF THE ROLE OF ADVERTISING ON PRODUCT POSITIONING AND BRAND LOYALTY IN THE NIGERIAN GSM MARKET

    ABSTRACT Every company wants to adopt the right marketing communications technique intended to present its product to the different members of the public that constitute its target market. The company chooses a message to disseminate through the right channel that can lead to a created need in the target market. This is the scenario in the Nigerian telecommunication market. To ascertain the role advertising plays in product positioning and consumer choice of brand, the study focused on the two leading GSM providers -MTN and Globacom. The study adopted the survey method with questionnaire as the instrument of gathering data from 143 respondents in Lagos. The data revealed that advertising can affect the way consumers rank a brand's attributes, such as color, taste, smell, and texture and that it can make consumers to be more informed about the brand and more generally favorable disposed to it. On the basis of this, the study concluded that since advertising and quality of product are two major influences on consumer preferences, GSM network service providers must ensure that product quality and effective service delivery are fused with effective promotions in order to influence the target market. However to achieve these the study recommended that advertisers must try to understand the different behavioural levels that customers pass through. It is only when they do that they can create a message that will meet all requirements

    WASTE TO WEALTH - CONVERSION OF POULTRY LITTER FROM RAW FORM TO PELLETED ORGANIC FERTILIZER

    A review of the use of pelletized poultry litter for creation of wealth through use as organic fertilizer was done, using information from literature and data from field observation. Poultry wastes, which are a menace to the environment, are sources of wealth creation, especially for organic farming. There is an abundance of poultry wastes in Nigeria, as about 932.5 metric tonnes of poultry manure is produced annually from the well-established poultry houses which keep expanding at the rate of 8% per year. Also, global trend is shifting to organic fertilizer as the use of chemical fertilizer over the years has destroyed our soil. Organic fertilizer has much organic content, which can rejuvenate the already destroyed soil. Not only that, organic fertilizer is safe for human health. Pelletized poultry litter would compete successfully as a soil conditioner or soil amendment. It would also be priced competitively, as it provides a unique mixture of nutrients and conditioning properties. Consequently, there is more poultry farming profitability, efficient resources utilization and conservation of environment due to waste management

    Chromosome evolution and the genetic basis of agronomically important traits in greater yam

    The nutrient-rich tubers of the greater yam, Dioscorea alata L., provide food and income security for millions of people around the world. Despite its global importance, however, greater yam remains an orphan crop. Here, we address this resource gap by presenting a highly contiguous chromosome-scale genome assembly of D. alata combined with a dense genetic map derived from African breeding populations. The genome sequence reveals an ancient allotetraploidization in the Dioscorea lineage, followed by extensive genome-wide reorganization. Using the genomic tools, we find quantitative trait loci for resistance to anthracnose, a damaging fungal pathogen of yam, and several tuber quality traits. Genomic analysis of breeding lines reveals both extensive inbreeding as well as regions of extensive heterozygosity that may represent interspecific introgression during domestication. These tools and insights will enable yam breeders to unlock the potential of this staple crop and take full advantage of its adaptability to varied environments

    LC-MS analysis, computational investigation, and antimalarial studies of Azadirachta indica fruit

    Malaria is a deadly disease that continues to pose a threat to children and maternal well-being. This study was designed to identify the chemical constituents in the ethanolic fruit extract of Azadirachta indica, elucidate the pharmacological potentials of identified phytochemicals through the density functional theory method and carry out the antimalarial activity of extract using chemosuppression and curative models. The liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis of the ethanolic extract was carried out, followed by the density functional theory studies of the identified phytochemicals using B3LYP and 6-31G (d, p) basis set. The antimalarial assays were performed using the chemosuppression (4 days) and curative models. The LC-MS fingerprint of the extract led to the identification of desacetylnimbinolide, nimbidiol, O-methylazadironolide, nimbidic acid, and desfurano-6α-hydroxyazadiradione. Also, the frontier molecular orbital properties, molecular electrostatic potential, and dipole moment studies revealed the identified phytochemicals as possible antimalarial agents. The ethanolic extract of A indica fruit gave 83% suppression at 800 mg/kg, while 84% parasitaemia clearance was obtained in the curative study. The study provided information about the phytochemicals and background pharmacological evidences of the antimalarial ethnomedicinal claim of A indica fruit. Thus, isolation and structure elucidation of the identified phytochemicals from the active ethanolic extract and extensive antimalarial studies towards the discovery of new therapeutic agents is recommended for further studies.The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).https://journals.sagepub.com/home/bbiam2024ChemistryNon

    Identification and Characterization of Human Observational Studies in Nutritional Epidemiology on Gut Microbiomics for Joint Data Analysis

    In any research field, data access and data integration are major challenges that even large, well-established consortia face. Although data sharing initiatives are increasing, joint data analyses on nutrition and microbiomics in health and disease are still scarce. We aimed to identify observational studies with data on nutrition and gut microbiome composition from the Intestinal Microbiomics (INTIMIC) Knowledge Platform following the findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) principles. An adapted template from the European Nutritional Phenotype Assessment and Data Sharing Initiative (ENPADASI) consortium was used to collect microbiome-specific information and other related factors. In total, 23 studies (17 longitudinal and 6 cross-sectional) were identified from Italy (7), Germany (6), Netherlands (3), Spain (2), Belgium (1), and France (1) or multiple countries (3). Of these, 21 studies collected information on both dietary intake (24 h dietary recall, food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), or Food Records) and gut microbiome. All studies collected stool samples. The most often used sequencing platform was Illumina MiSeq, and the preferred hypervariable regions of the 16S rRNA gene were V3-V4 or V4. The combination of datasets will allow for sufficiently powered investigations to increase the knowledge and understanding of the relationship between food and gut microbiome in health and disease

    Structure-Function Analysis of STRUBBELIG, an Arabidopsis Atypical Receptor-Like Kinase Involved in Tissue Morphogenesis

    Tissue morphogenesis in plants requires the coordination of cellular behavior across clonally distinct histogenic layers. The underlying signaling mechanisms are presently being unraveled and are known to include the cell surface leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase STRUBBELIG in Arabidopsis. To understand better its mode of action an extensive structure-function analysis of STRUBBELIG was performed. The phenotypes of 20 EMS and T-DNA-induced strubbelig alleles were assessed and homology modeling was applied to rationalize their possible effects on STRUBBELIG protein structure. The analysis was complemented by phenotypic, cell biological, and pharmacological investigations of a strubbelig null allele carrying genomic rescue constructs encoding fusions between various mutated STRUBBELIG proteins and GFP. The results indicate that STRUBBELIG accepts quite some sequence variation, reveal the biological importance for the STRUBBELIG N-capping domain, and reinforce the notion that kinase activity is not essential for its function in vivo. Furthermore, individual protein domains of STRUBBELIG cannot be related to specific STRUBBELIG-dependent biological processes suggesting that process specificity is mediated by factors acting together with or downstream of STRUBBELIG. In addition, the evidence indicates that biogenesis of a functional STRUBBELIG receptor is subject to endoplasmic reticulum-mediated quality control, and that an MG132-sensitive process regulates its stability. Finally, STRUBBELIG and the receptor-like kinase gene ERECTA interact synergistically in the control of internode length. The data provide genetic and molecular insight into how STRUBBELIG regulates intercellular communication in tissue morphogenesis
