BackgroundLittle is known on the characteristics of patients diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in Spain. We aimed to characterize the demographic and clinical profile of IPF patients included in the IPF National Registry of the Spanish Respiratory Society (SEPAR).MethodsThis is a prospective, observational, multicentre and nationwide study that involved 608 IPF patients included in the SEPAR IPF Registry up to June 27th, 2017, and who received any treatment for their disease. IPF patients were predominantly males, ex-smokers, and aged in their 70s, similar to other registries.ResultsUpon inclusion, meanSD predicted forced vital capacity was 77.6%+/- 19.4, diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide was 48.5%+/- 17.7, and the 6-min walk distance was 423.5m +/- 110.4. The diagnosis was mainly established on results from the high-resolution computed tomography in the proper clinical context (55.0% of patients), while 21.2% of patients required invasive procedures (surgical lung biopsy) for definitive diagnosis. Anti-fibrotic treatment was prescribed in 69.4% of cases, 51.5% pirfenidone and 17.9% nintedanib, overall with a good safety profile. Conclusions The SEPAR IPF Registry should help to further characterize current characteristics and future trends of IPF patients in Spain and compare/pool them with other registries and cohorts

Plasma copeptin as biomarker of disease progression and prognosis in cirrhosis

    Get PDF
Lay summary: Copeptin is a fragment of the vasopressin precursor, a hormone that is known to be increased in patients with cirrhosis and that plays a role in the development of complications of the disease. Vasopressin is difficult to measure, but copeptin is a more stable molecule and is easier to measure in blood. Sola and Kerbert and colleagues have shown in a series of 361 patients that copeptin is markedly increased in patients with cirrhosis who develop complications during the following 3 months, compared to those patients who do not develop complications. Moreover, copeptin correlates with prognosis. (C) 2016 European Association for the Study of the Liver. Published by Elsevier B.V. This paper tries to show some of the many changes and novelties in Spanish Labour Law during 2013, drawing up a record of the unstoppable character of our Labour legal system. This report offers a selection of essential elements, according to its authors, all of them specialists in each one of the subjects, being part of the Young Scholars’ Section of the Spanish Association for Labour and Social Security Law. According to the organization of the said Section in working groups, we can find novelties concerning unspecific fundamental rights, work contracts, the life of the work contract and collective Labour Law, reconciliation and co responsibility, social protection and occupational risk prevention

Rapid Identification of Volatile Compounds in Aromathic Plants by Automatic Thermal Desorption - GC-MS

    No full text
[EN]Thermal desorption is a valuable mathod for the fractionation of plant volatile components, which can be carried out on-line with GC analysis. The use of coupled GC-MS affords additional qualitative information, of special interest for plant species whose composition has not been previosly studied. Some examples of the application of automatic thermal desorption coupled to GC-MS to the identification and characterization of volatile components of plants of different families are given.Comunidad de Madrid. Solarized photoreactors for degradation of chlorinated organics in air

    No full text
In contrast to other Advanced Oxidation Technologies (AOTs), Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) has the advantage of being solarizable and can be considered as a mild technology. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a photostable and cheap catalyst, and the process may run at ambient conditions of temperature and pressure. In gas phase, some chlorinated high quantum compounds have been reported to achieve photoefficiencies above 100%. TCE has been selected as target compound for solarization of photoreactors. A careful exercise during design is needed to connect the solar photons source and related technology, to the photoreactor itself, and subsequently to optimise the mass and photon transfer mechanisms. We have tested two different options for well-known collectors/concentrators. A first reactor at labscale has been used to proof the concept for possible application in flat-plate collectors, and a second option (a pyrex tube containing a tubular matrix), has been adapted for possible parabolic trough and CPC applications. In this paper the authors provide an analysis of performances, make a comparison among designs discussing some applications for each solar technology. Converse results regarding conversion and reactor photonic efficiency have been obtained. A compromise between efficiency of the reaction and the reactor should be found
