Estudos de caso “A Tentadora” e “New Hand Lab”
This investigation intends to reflect on the theme of cultural entrepreneurship, try to
understand what it consists of, if entrepreneurship, given its nature, does not have an
intrinsically cultural dimension, as well as to investigate what impact cultural
entrepreneurship can have on the dynamism of a city, namely in the city of Covilhã.
For this purpose, two innovators and cultural studies advanced in the city of Covilhã, “A
Tentadora” and “New Hand Lab”, were selected as study targets. Both projects have
contributed to preserving and requalifying as identity marks for the city of Covilhã, a city
of wool clearly connected with an factory industry. Still intends to reflect on the
motivations and the boosters and limiting factors found in the entrepreneurial activity.
Thus, the methodological delimitation consisted of a bibliographic survey and research
comprising content analysis and qualitative methodologies such as observation and
interviews with the mentors of these cultural projects to better understand some
questions inherent to their impact on the city
Significant changes of flight conditions during a typical mission accounted by multiple,
but fixed design points, compromise aircraft performance. Applying adaptive wing
technology allows the fully exploration of the flow potential at each point of the flight
envelope.
This work presents the development of a continuous flap applying the Rotating Rib
(RR) concept. This flap has no discontinuity in the wing surface and the camber of the
wing is modified in a typical hinge line. The difference is that the skin of the wing is not
interrupted in the zone of the hinge but it bends to follow the rotation of the internal
ribs. In doing such, the parasite drag, that result due to the presence of the gap, no
longer exists thus producing an aerodynamically cleaner wing.
In order to obtain the functional and aerodynamic validation of the adopted concept, the
implementation and aerodynamic testing of a mechanism are performed. These
aerodynamic results are compared with an equivalent conventional flap to quantify the
new concept advantages
Development of a mixed-meal that impacts carotid-body mediated cardiorespiratory and metabolic parameters - a pilot study
The carotid bodies (CB) have been recently implicated in the genesis of metabolic diseases in animal models. The CBs respond to circulating insulin to increase heart rate, respiratory rate and blood glucose levels. In humans, this mechanism is not well characterized.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Determining the prevalence of palliative needs and exploring screening accuracy of depression and anxiety items of the integrated palliative care outcome scale – a multi-centre study
Funder: National Institute for Health Research; doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100000272Abstract: Background: patients with palliative needs often experience high symptom burden which causes suffering to themselves and their families. Depression and psychological distress should not be considered a “normal event” in advanced disease patients and should be screened, diagnosed, acted on and followed-up. Psychological distress has been associated with greater physical symptom severity, suffering, and mortality in cancer patients. A holistic, but short measure should be used for physical and non-physical needs assessment. The Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale is one such measure. This work aims to determine palliative needs of patients and explore screening accuracy of two items pertaining to psychological needs. Methods: multi-centred observational study using convenience sampling. Data were collected in 9 Portuguese centres. Inclusion criteria: ≥18 years, mentally fit to give consent, diagnosed with an incurable, potentially life-threatening illness. Exclusion criteria: patient in distress (“unable to converse for a period of time”), cognitively impaired. Descriptive statistics used for demographics. Receiving Operator Characteristics curves and Area Under the Curve for anxiety and depression discriminant properties against the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Results: 1703 individuals were screened between July 1st, 2015 and February 2016. A total of 135 (7.9%) were included. Main reason for exclusion was being healthy (75.2%). The primary care centre screened most individuals, as they have the highest rates of daily patients and the majority are healthy. Mean age is 66.8 years (SD 12.7), 58 (43%) are female. Most patients had a cancer diagnosis 109 (80.7%). Items scoring highest (=4) were: family or friends anxious or worried (36.3%); feeling anxious or worried about illness (13.3%); feeling depressed (9.6%). Using a cut-off score of 2/3, Area Under the Curve for depression and anxiety items were above 70%. Conclusions: main palliative needs were psychological, family related and spiritual. This suggests that clinical teams may better manage physical issues and there is room for improvement regarding non-physical needs. Using the Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale systematically could aid clinical teams screening patients for distressing needs and track their progress in assisting patients and families with those issues
Several devices have been developed to assess soil losses by water erosion. However, they rarely assess the combined effects of raindrop impact and surface runoff together with vegetation cover on varying slopes. This study aimed to design and validate an equipment, on laboratory scale, to evaluate the effect of water erosion on undisturbed soil samples with and without plant cover, as well as to assess the kinetic energy of simulated rain and the resultant shear stress at varying runoff intensities. The equipment is composed of a rainfall simulator, an adjustable stand for different slopes and falling heights, and a runoff ramp for testing undisturbed soil samples measuring 15 x 20 x 40 cm (height, width, and length). In this study, the equipment simulated and evaluated the effect of precipitation and runoff on soil losses, allowing to obtain different values of the kinetic energy of precipitation and runoff. For a f low rate of 12 L min-1 and slope of 35%, the shear stress could reach up to 8 Pa. Furthermore, the equipment showed the effect of vegetation cover and slope on soil losses in different granulometric fractions (< 0.106 mm, 0.106 to 0.25 mm, 0.25 to 0.5 mm, 0.5 to 1.0 mm, 1.0 to 2.0 mm, and > 2.0 mm), revealing the potential of its use in several erosion studies on a laboratory scale.
Comparison and Analysis of the Effects of Several Improvements in the Traditional Model on Engine Working with Otto Cycle / Comparação e Análise dos Efeitos de Várias Melhorias no Modelo Tradicional de Funcionamentro de Motores com Ciclo Otto
Engine performance behavior was investigated by adding some considerations in the usual cycle such as: influence of the temperature in the k coefficient, process gas behaving according to the virial equation and effect of initial temperature of the air. To determine the relationship among independent variables including temperature of the flame, temperature of the flue gas, thermal efficiency and effective average pressure analysis of the some methodologies was used. Comparison between different methodologies shows that the one regarding the virial equation model has not provided substantial variations in the studied variables. The results showed that adding and considering the non-idealities of the process became the findings closer to the reality due to thermal efficiency and air temperatures decreased when the real process has to be regarded.
