Top Quark Measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron
The top quark, discovered at the Tevatron in 1995, is a very interesting
particle. Precise measurement of the top properties using large data samples
will allow stringent tests of the Standard Model and offer a unique window on
new physics. In this report will be reviewed the status of the current
knowledge of the top quark as provided by the Run I results of the CDF and D0
experiment. A first look at various preliminary measurements obtained with data

Incentives in Religious Performance: a Stochastic Dominance Approach
Using a stochastic dominance approach in an international dataset of about 10,000 Catholic subjects, we show that incentives (based on absolute belief) play a crucial role in religious practice (church attendance and prayer). Furthermore, we find that when both positive (heaven) and negative (hell) incentives are available, the former have a much stronger effect than the latter. Measurement of J/Psi and Psi(2S) Polarization in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We have measured the polarization of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons produced in
p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected at CDF during
1992-95.
The polarization of promptly produced J/Psi [Psi(2S)] mesons is isolated from
those produced in B-hadron decay, and measured over the kinematic range 4[5.5]
< P_T < 20 GeV/c and |y| < 0.6. For P_T \gessim 12 GeV/c we do not observe
significant polarization in the prompt component.Comment: Revised version, accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter
Measurement of the Top-Quark Mass in All-Hadronic Decays in p pbar Collisions at CDF II
We present a measurement of the top-quark mass, , in the
all-hadronic decay channel . The analysis is performed using 310 pb of
=1.96 TeV collisions collected with the CDF II detector
using a multi-jet trigger. The mass measurement is based on an event-by-event
likelihood which depends on both the sample purity and the value of the
top-quark mass, using 90 possible jet-to-parton assignments in the six-jet
final state. The joint likelihood of 290 selected events yields a value of
=177.1 4.9 (stat.) 4.7 (syst.) GeV/.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures and 1 table, Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Measurement of the Helicity of W Bosons in Top Quark Decays
We use the transverse momentum spectrum of leptons in the decay chain t-->bW
with W-->l nu to measure the helicity of the W bosons in the top quark rest
frame. Our measurement uses a ttbar sample isolated in 106 +/- 4 inverse
picobarns of data collected in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV with the CDF
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Assuming a standard V--A weak decay, we find
that the fraction of W's with zero helicity in the top rest frame is F_0 = 0.91
+/- 0.37 (stat) +/- 0.13 (syst), consistent with the standard model prediction
of F_0=0.70 for a top mass of 175 GeV/c**2.Comment: Submitted to PRL. 8 pages, 2 figure
Search for a Fourth-Generation Quark More Massive than the Z0 Boson in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We present the results of a search for pair production of a fourth-generation
charge -1/3 quark (b') in sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV ppbar collisions using 88 pb^(-1) of
data obtained with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume that both
quarks decay via the flavor-changing neutral current process b' -> bZ and that
the b' mass is greater than m_Z + m_b. We studied the decay mode b'b'bar -> ZZ
b bbar where one Z0 decays into e^+e^- or mu^+ mu^- and the other decays
hadronically, giving a signature of two leptons plus jets. An upper limit on
the cross section of ppbar -> b'b'bar times [BR (b' -> bZ)]^2 is established as
a function of the b' mass. We exclude at 95% confidence level a b' quark with
mass between 100 and 199 GeV/c^2 for BR(b' -> bZ) = 100%.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Letters on 9/12/9
Measurements of the top-antitop production cross section at the Tevatron Run II CDF experiment using b-tagging
We present measurements of the top-antitop production cross section in
b-tagged lepton + jets events from proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV
using the CDF detector at Fermilab. B-jets are tagged with either a secondary
vertex algorithm, or a soft lepton tagger that identifies muons from B hadron
semileptonic decays. With Tevatron Run II data, we estimate the top-antitop
signal fraction in two different ways: by estimating the various background
contributions, and by fitting directly the leading jet transverse energy
spectrum for the signal and background contributions. A subset of the sample
with two secondary vertex tagged jets yields a production cross section
consistent with the inclusive measurements. Results are consistent with a
Standard Model top-antitop signal and current measurements of the top quark
