Key words: sociolinguistic, taboo, folklore, social mental structure Language can be the most powerful attribute to define the mental structure of the people in particular group. Taboo is one of the social phenomena that can be used as an object of the study in sociolinguistic field. Taboo consists of normative rules that are transferred orally through generations without any specific rational. The appeareance of these taboo rules in society are accepted by the society as their local belief in communicating with others. In order to find the relationship between social mental structure and taboo rules, oral tradition as the device to transfer the information must be examined. The oral tradition as the social behaviour that havethe same characteristics with the taboo rules appear as the form of language that can also define the social mental structure. Based on those backgrounds, the writer is interested in analyzing the existence of taboo rules in Banyuwangi society especially in Alas Purwo which is touted as one of the most superstisious society in Banyuwangi area. The focus of the study attempts to find answers of this following problems of study: (1) What kind of taboo are believed in Alas Purwo Banyuwangi, (2) What are the meanings of the taboo in Alas Purwo Banyuwangi, (3) What are the types of folklore for each of the taboo in Alas Purwo? In the study, the writer uses Keith and Burridge (2006) categorization related to thefunction and the impact of breaking the rules. The writer also uses Danandjaja\u27s (1982) categorization of folklore. The result of the study shows that there are 4 fatal taboos, 1 exploiting taboo, 1Uncleanliness taboo, and 9 less serious taboo. From those taboos, there are two types of folklore that namely Myth and Legend. There are 10 myths and 3 legends in Alas Purwo. This result proves that eventhough the development of technology and information has grown fast in Banyuwangi area, the societ y\u27s subconscious mind still cannot accept the modernity principles in their life which demands eliminating the traditional beliefs which are full of superstition and myths. The writer suggest the study of taboo in Banyuwangi area be developed by the nextresearcher by tracking the existence of the characters like Werjo and Minak Jinggo with the historical data taken

Four wave mixing (FWM) in two-mode fiber was experimentally demonstrated at 24.7 dBm of output Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). The 0.5 km two mode fiber in laser cavity enhances the performance of four wave mixing by suppressing the homogenous broadening effect in erbium-doped fiber and perform a stable oscillation. At output EDFA approaches to 24.7 dBm, FWM is generated and the increasing of output EDFA induced the optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of all laser peaks

A silicon nanowire-based immunosensor has been developed to determine the presence of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG). This research demonstrates a process for the detection of 8-OHdG, which is an oxidative stress biomarker, in which elevated concentrations in urine and saliva can act as an indicator of the presence of acute leukaemia, colorectal, breast, lung and prostate cancers. The detection of elevated levels of this biomarker is critical in determining the presence of various mutagenesis and can be used to diagnose early stage cancer before initial symptoms appear. The surface functionalization process has involved the attachment of diazonium salt to the silicon nanowire surface with further stage which involves the reduction of PhNO2 to PhNH2. The antibody targeted against 8-OHdG was subsequently bound to the amine NH2 modified grafted layer of a 370 nm width nanowire. The immunosensor was evaluated through the use of current/voltage electrical probe monitoring in which a 2 μg/ml concentration of 8-OHdG was detected. A further comparison with phosphate buffered saline solution added to the sensor was observed to be negligible. The antibody-functionalised SiNW sensor has been used to detect binding of the 8-OHdG biomarker to the SiNW surface within sixty-seconds of exposure, making this a rapid cancer biomarker test

The floral-dip transformation method for Arabidopsis thaliana has long been established. Following transformation, an important step is involving the selection for transgenic plants through antibiotics or herbicides. Hygromycin has been widely applied for transgenic plants selection. However, the concentrations used were varied between laboratories mostly in a range of 10 mg/L up to 200 mg/L. In the present study, the hygromycin sensitivity test was performed on wild-type seeds to obtain the most effective hygromycin concentration for selection of the transgenic. A standard curve on average mean of hypocotyls lengths against hygromycin concentrations was constructed. Based on hypocotyls length and leaf colour, the most effective concentration of hygromycin was determined in the range of 20 to 30 mg/L. For screening the transformed seeds, hygromycin concentration at 25 mg/L was used. Non-transgenic plants demonstrated a clear decrease in hypocotyls lengths and no root elongation, as compared to transgenic plants. The identified transgenic seedlings were further verified through polymerase chain reaction (PCR), giving fragment with an expected size of 365 bp
