Nonlinear Vibrational Analysis of Nanobeams Embedded in an Elastic Medium including Surface Stress Effects
Due to size-dependent behavior of nanostructures, the classical continuum models are not applicable for the analyses at this submicron size. Surface stress effect is one of the most important matters which make the nanoscale structures have different properties compared to the conventional structures due to high surface to volume ratio. In the present study, nonlinear free vibrational characteristics of embedded nanobeams are investigated including surface stress effects. To this end, a thin surface layer is assumed on the upper and lower surfaces of the cross section to separate the surface and bulk of nanobeams with their own different material properties. Based on harmonic balance method, closed-form analytical solution is conducted for nonlinear vibrations to obtain natural frequencies of embedded nanobeams with and without considerations of surface elasticity and residual surface tension effects corresponding to the various values of nondimensional amplitude, elastic foundation modulus, and geometrical variables of the system. Selected numerical results are given to indicate the influence of each one in detail
Low-lying quadrupole collective states of the light and medium Xenon isotopes
Collective low lying levels of light and medium Xenon isotopes are deduced
from the Generalized Bohr Hamiltonian (GBH). The microscopic seven functions
entering into the GBH are built from a deformed mean field of the Woods-Saxon
type. Theoretical spectra are found to be close to the ones of the experimental
data taking into account that the calculations are completely microscopic, that
is to say, without any fitting of parameters.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
Scalar Quarkonia at Finite Temperature
Masses and decay constants of the scalar quarkonia, with
quantum numbers are calculated in the framework of
the QCD sum rules approach both in vacuum and finite temperature. The masses
and decay constants remain unchanged up to but they start to
diminish with increasing the temperature after this point. At near the critic
or deconfinement temperature, the decay constants reach approximately to 25% of
their values in vacuum, while the masses are decreased about 6% and 23% for
bottom and charm cases, respectively. The results at zero temperature are in a
good consistency with the existing experimental values and predictions of the
other nonperturbative approaches. Our predictions on the decay constants in
vacuum as well as the behavior of the masses and decay constants with respect
to the temperature can be checked in the future experiments.Comment: 12 Pages, 9 Figures and 2 Table
Powder activated carbon/Fe3O4 hybrid composite as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for Fenton oxidation of tetracycline: Degradation mechanism and kinetic
In this work, we prepared and used a composite of powder activate carbon/Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (PAC/Fe3O4 MNPs) as a heterogeneous catalyst to remove tetracycline (TC) from aqueous solution. By using XRD, BET, VSM, SEM, TEM and EDX techniques, also, we tried to characterize the catalyst. The effects of pH, H2O2, catalyst dosages and also initial TC concentration on the degradation process were assessed. Based on the results, it was indicated that at low pH values and initial TC concentrations, the efficiency of the process is higher than the other values and concentrations studied in this work. Under the ambient conditions and setting the initial pH value and TC concentration at respectively 3.0 ± 0.2 and 10 mg L-1, the optimal dosage of reagents were recorded to be 0.3 g L-1 catalyst and 80.0 mM H2O2. The values of observed rate constants, kobs, increased by increasing the catalyst loading in the system; however, these values decreases when the initial TC concentration was increased. Our findings indicated that all of TC concentration was nearly degraded during the 180 min reaction. Regarding the reusability of PAC/Fe3O4 MNPs, the results showed that TC and TOC removal efficiencies of 94.5 and 32.3, respectively, can be achieved after four consecutive runs. By conducting the stability experiments, it was confirmed that PAC/Fe3O4 MNPs is a promising and effective catalyst in Fenton reactions and can be used to treat TC-contaminated water with very low loss of catalytic activity. © 2015 The Royal Society of Chemistry
Connection between the "Strutinsky level density" and the semiclassical level density (published version)
We establish an analytical link between the level density obtained by means
of the Strutinsky averaging method, and the semiclassical level density. This
link occurs only in the so-called "asymptotic limit". It turns out that the
Strutinsky method amounts to an approximation to the semiclassical method. This
approximation contains an unavoidable remainder which constitutes an intrinsic
noise in comparison to the semiclassical method. Thus, the "old" problem of the
dependency of the Strutinsky procedure on the two free smoothing parameters of
the averaging is intimately connected to this noise. On the other hand, we
demonstrate that the noise of the method is small in the average density of
states and in the average energy, whereas it might be non-negligible in the
shell correction itself. In order to improve this method, we give a "rule"
which consists simply of minimizing the relative error made on the average
energy.Comment: 6 figure
Molecular characterization and similarity relationships among sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) inbred lines using some mapped simple sequence repeats
Information about the genetic diversity and relationships among breeding lines and varieties is not only useful for germplasm conservation and inbred line identification, but also for the selection of parental lines for quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping as well as hybrid breeding in crops, including sunflower. In order to develop mapping populations, genetic distances among twenty eight sunflower genotypes were evaluated using simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. One hundred and two markers were generated by 38 SSR loci and the mean for the number of allele per locus was 2.32. Polymorphism information content (PIC) values ranged from 0.09 (locus ha3555) to 0.62 (locus ORS598) with an average of 0.41. Jaccard's coefficient similarity matrix for the studied sunflower genotypes varied from 0.25 to 0.9 indicating a broad genetic base. The maximum similarity (0.9) was observed between genotypes RT931 and ENSAT-R5, while the lowest similarity (0.25) was between genotypes LC1064C and LR64. Based on unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) clustering algorithm, the studied genotypes were clustered in four groups. However, some genotypes have the same specific characters that influence their clustering, and as a result, the results of the principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) largely corresponded to those obtained through cluster analysis.Key words: Cluster analysis, genetic diversity, principal coordinate analysis, sunflower, simple sequence repeat
Design and implementation of a children vaccination reminder system based on short message service
Background: Most problems related to quality of care and patient safety are related to human negligence. One of the causes of these problems is forgetting to do something. This problem can be avoided with information technology in many cases. Some forgotten are very important. Among these is failure to comply with vaccination schedule by parents that can result in inappropriate outcomes. In this study,we developed and evaluated a SMS reminder system for regular and timely vaccination of children. Methods: In this developmental-applied research, firstly,a child vaccination reminder system was designed and implemented to help parents reduce the forgetfulness. This system based on the childs vaccination history and the date of birth, offer time and type of future vaccines. Then the parents of 27 children, that their vaccination was between 22 June and 21 August 2015,referred to Childrens Medical Center, were sent text messages by using this system. We evaluated the accuracy of the system logic by using some scenarios. In addition,we evaluated parents satisfaction with the system using a questionnaire. Results: In all cases but one,the system proposed the type and date of future children vaccines correctly. All the parents who have received text messages had good perception and satisfaction on the majority of questions (total mean score of 4.15 out of 5). Most parents (4.92 out of 5) stated that using the system to remind their visit for child immunization was helpful and willing to offer the system to their friends and other families. Conclusion: Using the short message system is beneficial for parents to remind their childrens vaccination time and increases their satisfaction. So,it can be considered as an important and essential tool in providing healthcare services. SMS is an easy, cheap and effective way to improve the quality of care services. 2016,Tehran University of Medical Sciences. All Rights Reserved
Does surgical procedure type impact postoperative pain and recovery in deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap breast reconstruction?
Background:
The deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap is the commonest flap used for breast reconstruction after mastectomy. It is performed as a unilateral (based on one [unipedicled] or two [bipedicled] vascular pedicles) or bilateral procedure following unilateral or bilateral mastectomies. No previous studies have comprehensively analyzed analgesia requirements and hospital stay of these three forms of surgical reconstruction.
Methods:
A 7-year retrospective cohort study (2008–2015) of a single-surgeon’s DIEP-patients was conducted. Patient-reported pain scores, patient-controlled morphine requirements and recovery times were compared using non-parametric statistics and multivariable regression.
Results:
The study included 135 participants: unilateral unipedicled (n=84), unilateral bipedicled (n=24) and bilateral unipedicled (n=27). Univariate comparison of the three DIEP types showed a significant difference in 12-hour postoperative morphine requirements (P=0.020); bipedicled unilateral patients used significantly less morphine than unipedicled (unilateral) patients at 12 (P=0.005), 24 (P=0.020), and 48 (P=0.046) hours. Multivariable regression comparing these two groups revealed that both reconstruction type and smoking status were significant predictors for 12-hour postoperative morphine usage (P=0.038 and P=0.049, respectively), but only smoking, remained significant at 24 (P=0.010) and 48 (P=0.010) hours. Bilateral reconstruction patients’ mean hospital stay was 2 days longer than either unilateral reconstruction (P<0.001).
Conclusions:
Although all three forms of DIEP flap breast reconstruction had similar postoperative pain measures, a novel finding of our study was that bipedicled DIEP flap harvest might be associated with lower early postoperative morphine requirements. Bilateral and bipedicled procedures in appropriate patients might therefore be undertaken without significantly increased pain/morbidity compared to unilateral unipedicled reconstructions
Investigation of the structure via to transitions in QCD
We investigate the structure of the mesons via
analyzing the semileptonic , and
transitions in the framework of the three--point
QCD sum rules. We consider the meson in two ways, the pure
state and then as a mixture of two and states.
Such type rare transitions take place at loop level by electroweak penguin and
weak box diagrams in the standard model via the flavor changing neutral current
transition of . The relevant form factors are calculated taking into
account the gluon condensate contributions. These form factors are numerically
obtained for case and plotted in terms of the unknown mixing angle
, when the meson are considered as mixture of two
and states. The obtained results for the form factors are used to
evaluate the decay rates and branching ratios. Any future experimental
measurement on these form factors as well as decay rates and branching
fractions and their comparison with the obtained results in the present work
can give considerable information about the structure of this meson and the
mixing angle .Comment: 33 Pages, 11 Figures and 5 Table
