The Relationship Between Sustainable Urbanisation and Urban Renewal: An Evaluation of Trabzon City Sample
In recent years, the city is faced with new facts and problems that began to appear. These can be sorted as the issues of ‘sustainability’, ‘urban renewal’ and ‘sustainable urbanisation’. Liveability of cities arises through the value given to the town and city dwellers. To make cities liveable and ensure their continuity is possible only in the situations where the relationship between the town and its dwellers is correctly founded and carried out. In the course of time, constant change–renewal is experienced in urban areas with a complex structure depending on the causes such as economic, social, physical, technological and political. Change and renewal in urban areas is usually carried out to increase the quality of space and of life, while some time it is, unfortunately, defeated by rent and cannot get rid of entering into a continuous cycle of renewal. Waiting almost for their expiration date, will the changing places be able to stand against the new rents to be created? Therefore, it is an urgent need to develop sustainable strategies for urban renewal. This research aims to evaluate seven urban renewal applications in order to establish a proposal model to be a useful guide for our cities and local authorities
Kentsel yaya alışveriş sokaklarında geçirgenlik kavramı üzerine bir araştırma: trabzon kunduracılar caddesi örneği
This research in which components of permeability concept is tried to be set forth, presents the results of a field study conducted on a pedestrian-shopping street in Trabzon, a coastal city in the eastern Black Sea Region. The criteria affecting permeability are dealt with in physical, functional and perceptual properties. Accordingly, three hypotheses are proposed in this article. The study was a two-stage survey. The first survey is prepared to determine user preferences. With the second survey prepared in the light of the data obtained from the first one, characteristics defining the permeability concept were sought for. As a result, permeability level of a street is found to be closely related with the physical, functional and perceptual properties providing such permeability and, permeability is determined to be best provided by considering all the three properties together, and new perspective to the concept of permeability is brought with this model.
The Identification of The City on The Legibility and Wayfinding Concepts: A Case of Trabzon
The concept of wayfinding includes understanding the space and finding direction within the space. But as cities and architectural spaces grow and become more complex, visitors and locals of the space can find it difficult to find direction. For these reasons, for visitors who speak different languages, along with these elements, there is a need for well-designed information and direction-finding graphics and landmarks that have a universal quality. The aim of the study is to explain the concepts of wayfinding and way-finding, defined as “direction-finding” in the literature and to create awareness. Furthermore, to analyze the concept of wayfinding and the direction designs that aim to transform the cities that have become complex into more understandable spaces, through the city of Trabzon and to examine the problems of the city in this context and to make suggestions. In this study, Trabzon will be evaluated with the concepts of legibility and directability and the direction and information designs over the focal point, regions, edges, nodes, roads with which Kevin Lynch has defined the imageable, readable city. A survey was conducted to investigate the spatial information elements and legibility of Trabzon city. Furthermore, to create awareness for other cities with similar problems
Design Approaches to Museum Open Spaces with User Evaluations
The concept of the museum today should be considered as a social communication platform, and museums should be designed by taking into account the interaction and harmony of their open and closed spaces with the immediate surroundings. This study emphasizes the importance of museums for the city and discusses design approaches to museum open spaces with examples of their effective use and an evaluation of the opinions of their users. In order to shed light on today's museum exterior design approaches, evaluations of the design setup of the museum open spaces were carried out on the basis of literature research and spatial experiences of the museum examples visited. In addition, using the content analysis method, by creating statements about usage, satisfaction level, and expectations, a questionnaire was planned and designed to be applied to a volunteer user group. According to the examples given and the survey data, museum open space designs were carried out. Four groups of factors - planning and design, social, functional and perceptual-having the greatest impact on visitor satisfaction were identified. The examples given include a discussion of museum open space facilities, along with commentary from the literature. For the evaluation of the users, a survey was conducted with 74 people. The survey asked about their satisfaction levels and their expectations in terms of museums and open spaces. Since there was not chance to conduct face to face survey in pandemic conditions, the study was conducted that questioned the general qualifications. In addition to reaching the users visiting the museum were limited. When we look at the literature, multi-dimensional research has been carried out on museum architecture and design. However, no comprehensive study has been carried out on museum open spaces. Consequently, this study focused on the interaction between museum open spaces and visitors
Vitamin B12 Levels of Subjects Aged 0-24 Year(s) in Konya, Turkey
Research reports indicate that vitamin B12 levels show racial
differences, which suggests that using the reference ranges of varied
populations may lead to inaccurate results. This study aimed to
determine normal serum levels of vitamin B12 among children and young
people in the Konya region of Turkey. It evaluated 1,109 samples; 54
were from cord-blood and 1,055 were from healthy subjects aged 0-24
year(s), who were admitted to primary healthcare centres. The normal
reference levels obtained for vitamin B12 at 2.5-97.5 percentile
(P2.5-P97.5) range were 127-606 pg/mL for girls, 127-576 pg/mL for
boys, and 127-590 pg/mL for the entire study group. The reported
reference values for vitamin B12 in other studies were higher than the
current results. Vitamin B12 levels vary from country to country;
comparisons between countries may not be valid, and normal levels for
each population should be obtained
The Relationship of OCD and OCD Symptoms with the Thought Action Fusion in Children and Adolescents during the Pandemic Period
INTRODUCTION: The aim of our study is to examine the effects of pandemic-related features on OCD symptoms during the period of restrictions, and to evaluate the relationship between OCD and TAF during the pandemic. METHODS: A total of 69 patients aged 7-18 years, who applied to our outpatient clinics and were diagnosed with OCD, were included in the study. Sociodemographic data form, Children's Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS) and Thought Action Fusion Scale for Children were used in the study. RESULTS: The CY-BOCS obsession score was found significantly higher in cases with an increase in the time spent with the family during the pandemic, obsession and compulsion scores in those with an increase in the cleaning efforts related to the pandemic, and compulsion score in those with an increase in the behaviors performed for the purpose of preventing virus transmission. The TAFTOTAL score was found to be significantly higher in females, and the TAFSELF subscale score was found to be significantly higher in patients over 12 years old. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: TAF appears to be critical in the onset and maintenance of OCD. It is thought that early diagnosis and intervention will be important in the prognosis before the chronicity of cognitive distortions of OCD
Inappropriate antimicrobial use in Turkish pediatric hospitals: A multicenter point prevalence survey
Objectives: Although well-defined principles of rational antimicrobial use are available, inappropriate prescribing patterns are reported worldwide. Accurate information on the usage of antimicrobials, including factors associated with and influencing their use, is valuable for improving the quality of prescription practices.
Methods: In this cross-sectional point prevalence survey, data on patients hospitalized in 12 different children's hospitals were collected on a single day. Appropriateness of prescription was compared between the types of antimicrobials prescribed, indications, wards, and presence of/consultation with an infectious disease physician (IDP).
Results: A total 711 of 1302 (54.6%) patients evaluated were receiving one or more antimicrobial drugs. The antimicrobial prescription rate was highest in pediatric intensive care (75.7%) and lowest in the surgery wards (37.0%). Of the 711 patients receiving antimicrobials, 332 patients (46.7%) were found to be receiving at least one inappropriately prescribed drug. Inappropriate use was most frequent in surgery wards (80.2%), while it was less common in oncology wards (31.8%; p < 0.001). Respiratory tract infection was the most common indication for antimicrobial use (29.4%). Inappropriate use was more common in deep-seated infections (54.7%) and respiratory infections (56.5%). Fluoroquinolones were used inappropriately more than any other drugs (81.8%, p = 0.021). Consultation with an IDP appears to increase appropriate antimicrobial use (p = 0.008).
Conclusions: Inappropriate antimicrobial use remains a common problem in Turkish pediatric hospitals. Consultation with an IDP and prescribing antimicrobial drugs according to microbiological test results could decrease the inappropriate use of antimicrobials
