    INFLUENCE OF WOOD STACKING LOCATION ON FOREST TRANSPORT COSTS

    Given the importance of forest transportation planning due to its high contribution in wood final cost, the distance between forest plantation stands and the wood final destination should be optimized in order to reduce process cost. The relation between distance and transportation cost is known, yet, it is still necessary to evaluate how much the location of the wood piles inside the stand interferes with its final cost. Thus, we try to evaluate the influence of the wood stacking location on forest transportation costs. The vectorization of the general map of a property located in Minas Gerais state was performed through the QGIS software, by representing the planting areas by polygons, internal and external access roads by lines, and the possible wood-stacking location to be transported by points. In each stand, four wood-stacking sites were considered, each on one side of the stand. Considering this, optimal route simulations were performed based on the criterion of the shortest distance between each pile of wood and a carbonization plant. The results showed a 32% reduction in the final cost of transportation when the wood is stacked in places closer to the carbonization plant. Therefore, the results evidence that the choice of the ideal stacking point, in the aspect of closer proximity to the destination of the wood transportation, can generate savings in this process

    Objetivo: Investigar o potencial do instrumento Vulnerable Elders Survey para identificar idosos com expectativa de vida limitada, em ambientes de atenção primária à saúde. Método: Estudo transversal realizado em todas as (nove) unidades de saúde de Jataí, Goiás (Brasil), no período de julho a dezembro de 2018. Obteve-se uma amostra de 407 idosos, considerando uma população ≥ 60 anos. Os participantes responderam a um questionário sobre características sociodemográficas e clínicas, incluindo o Vulnerable Elders Survey e o índice de Suemoto. Testamos a associação entre a expectativa de vida limitada e o Vulnerable Elders Survey usando análise de regressão logística múltipla. Resultados: A idade média foi de 68,9 ± 6,6 anos, e 58,0% dos participantes eram mulheres. A pontuação média do Vulnerable Elders Survey foi de 2,0 ± 2,2, a pontuação média do índice de Suemoto foi de 31,5 ± 21,1%, e 17,2% dos participantes tinham expectativa de vida limitada. O Vulnerable Elders Survey foi associado a uma expectativa de vida limitada (OR = 1,57; p = < 0,0001). Conclusão: O instrumento Vulnerable Elders Survey foi capaz de identificar idosos com expectativa de vida limitada em ambientes de atenção primária à saúde, além de poder auxiliar na detecção de idosos que não se beneficiariam com a triagem e o controle estrito de doenças crônicas.Objective: To investigate the potential role of the Vulnerable Elders Survey to identify older adults with limited life expectancy in primary healthcare settings. Method: This cross-sectional study was performed in all (nine) healthcare units in Jatai, Goiás (Brazil) from July to December 2018. A sample size of 407 older adults was obtained considering an older population (≥ 60 years old). Participants answered a questionnaire about sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, including the Vulnerable Elders Survey and the Suemoto index. We tested the association between limited life expectancy and the Vulnerable Elders Survey using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The mean age was 68.9 ± 6.6 yo, and 58.0% were women. The mean score of the Vulnerable Elders Survey was 2.0 ± 2.2, the mean score of Suemoto index was 31.5 ± 21.1%, and 17.2% had limited life expectancy. The Vulnerable Elders Survey was associated with limited life expectancy (OR = 1.57; p = < 0.0001). Conclusion: The Vulnerable Elders Survey was able to identify older adults with limited life expectancy in primary healthcare settings and can play a role in detecting older adults who would not benefit from screening and strict control of chronic diseases.Objetivo: Investigar o potencial do instrumento Vulnerable Elders Survey para identificar idosos com expectativa de vida limitada, em ambientes de atenção primária à saúde.     Introdução: O vitiligo é uma doença cutânea crônica que afeta certa de 1 a 2% da população mundial, acometendo pessoas de qualquer sexo, idade e etnia.Esta doença pode afetar a qualidade de vida (QoL) do paciente e em vista disso, diversos instrumentos foram elaborados para avaliar o impacto na vida dessas pessoas, sendo o DLQI em adultos o mais utilizado. Objetivos: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade de vida de pacientes com vitiligo atendidos em um centro de referência de dermatologia em município no Norte do país, demonstrar as características demográficas da população estudada, identificar a topografia das lesões cutâneas e o tempo de evolução da doença. Metodologia:Foi conduzido um estudo analítico com delineamento transversal cuja amostra foi de 21 pacientes, de ambos os sexos, a partir de 18 anos e com vitiligo. A qualidade de vida foi avaliada através do questionário DLQI. Resultados:Observou-se predomínio do sexo feminino (71%), de pacientes com idade entre 47 e 56 anos (38,1%), cor parda (81%), procedentes de Belém-PA (76,2%) e com ensino fundamental (47,6%). A maioria foi diagnosticada há cinco anos (47,6%), e todos realizaram o tratamento da doença (100%). A maioria apresentou lesões nos membros (90,5%). O escore médio no DLQI foi de 5,1, sendo sintomas e sentimentos o domínio mais impactado e o trabalho ou escola o menos afetado pela doença. Conclusão: O vitiligo teve leve impacto na vida dos pacientes estudados, porém ainda assim, observou-se comprometimento de aspectos como as relações interpessoais e autoestima

    Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory

    A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers with zenith angles greater than 6060^{\circ} detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above 5.3×10185.3{\times}10^{18} eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law EγE^{-\gamma} with index γ=2.70±0.02(stat)±0.1(sys)\gamma=2.70 \pm 0.02 \,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.1\,\text{(sys)} followed by a smooth suppression region. For the energy (EsE_\text{s}) at which the spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence of suppression, we find Es=(5.12±0.25(stat)1.2+1.0(sys))×1019E_\text{s}=(5.12\pm0.25\,\text{(stat)}^{+1.0}_{-1.2}\,\text{(sys)}){\times}10^{19} eV.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Energy Estimation of Cosmic Rays with the Engineering Radio Array of the Pierre Auger Observatory

    The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) is part of the Pierre Auger Observatory and is used to detect the radio emission of cosmic-ray air showers. These observations are compared to the data of the surface detector stations of the Observatory, which provide well-calibrated information on the cosmic-ray energies and arrival directions. The response of the radio stations in the 30 to 80 MHz regime has been thoroughly calibrated to enable the reconstruction of the incoming electric field. For the latter, the energy deposit per area is determined from the radio pulses at each observer position and is interpolated using a two-dimensional function that takes into account signal asymmetries due to interference between the geomagnetic and charge-excess emission components. The spatial integral over the signal distribution gives a direct measurement of the energy transferred from the primary cosmic ray into radio emission in the AERA frequency range. We measure 15.8 MeV of radiation energy for a 1 EeV air shower arriving perpendicularly to the geomagnetic field. This radiation energy -- corrected for geometrical effects -- is used as a cosmic-ray energy estimator. Performing an absolute energy calibration against the surface-detector information, we observe that this radio-energy estimator scales quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy as expected for coherent emission. We find an energy resolution of the radio reconstruction of 22% for the data set and 17% for a high-quality subset containing only events with at least five radio stations with signal.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Measurement of the Radiation Energy in the Radio Signal of Extensive Air Showers as a Universal Estimator of Cosmic-Ray Energy

    We measure the energy emitted by extensive air showers in the form of radio emission in the frequency range from 30 to 80 MHz. Exploiting the accurate energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory, we obtain a radiation energy of 15.8 \pm 0.7 (stat) \pm 6.7 (sys) MeV for cosmic rays with an energy of 1 EeV arriving perpendicularly to a geomagnetic field of 0.24 G, scaling quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy. A comparison with predictions from state-of-the-art first-principle calculations shows agreement with our measurement. The radiation energy provides direct access to the calorimetric energy in the electromagnetic cascade of extensive air showers. Comparison with our result thus allows the direct calibration of any cosmic-ray radio detector against the well-established energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory.Comment: Replaced with published version.
