Families and students satisfaction as an instrument of educational improvement: Illustration of a systematic measurement tool and a methodological approach for evaluation

Ejercer un liderazgo educativo responsable exige partir de un diagnóstico realista y objetivo de los puntos fuertes, con el fin de potenciarlos, y de los puntos débiles, con el fin de corregirlos. Para dicho diagnóstico, a nivel de centro, es importante medir la satisfacción que las familias y los alumnos tienen con diferentes aspectos del funcionamiento del mismo. En este estudio se ha empleado la herramienta validada de medida EducalNet, que consta de cuestionarios diferenciados para familias y alumnos, como guía sistemática para la elaboración y autoevaluación de los planes de mejora de un centro de enseñanza educativo. El análisis multivariado de los resultados obtenidos en los diferentes cursos, a través de árboles de decisión, se presenta como una metodología que complementa no sólo la evaluación de los posibles efectos de los cambios implementados, sino también, la evaluación global de la herramienta. Análisis de la evolución del Itinerario de Diseño Centrado en el Usuario y Diseño Inclusivo de la EPSEVG de la UPC

Una de las especificidades de este grado fue la incorporación de un itinerario de Diseño Centrado en el Usuario y Diseño Inclusivo, focalizado en el área de conocimiento de la interacción persona-computador. Nueve años después, se presenta un análisis de la evolución de este itinerario basado en datos estadísticos agregados reales. Se han analizado datos de procedencia y nota de acceso de los estudiantes, número de matriculados y titulados, resultados de evaluación los estudiantes del itinerario, así como los resultados de las encuestas oficiales de la UPC realizadas por los estudiantes. Analysis of the dimensions for the measurement of the satisfaction of the families in secondary schools

En un entorno en el que la libertad de elección de centro se ha convertido en un paradigma en la política de la Administración que cada vez cala más en el ideario de las familias, se convierte en un recurso fundamental contar con información acerca de la satisfacción que las familias y los alumnos tienen con respecto a una serie de dimensiones y subdimensiones que abarquen la totalidad del servicio educativo. Para realizar este trabajo, se ha propuesto el modelo validado EducalNet, que consta de cuestionarios diferenciados para familias y alumnos, como guía sistemática para la evaluación de la satisfacción de la Comunidad Educativa. Se han obtenido evidencias de la validez y utilidad del modelo, mediante el uso de técnicas de análisis multivariadas para el análisis de los resultados obtenidos con la aplicación de los cuestionarios en diferentes centros y cursos. Clear detection of dusty torus signatures in a Weak-Line Radio Galaxy: the case of PKS 0043-42

We report the clearest detection to date of dusty torus signatures in a Weak-Line Radio Galaxy (WLRG). The deep Spitzer InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS) rest-frame mid-infrared (MIR) spectrum of the WLRG PKS 0043-42 (z=0.116) shows a clear spectral turnover at wavelengths longer than ~20 micron suggestive of warm dust, as well as a 9.7 micron silicate absorption feature. In addition, the hard X-ray results, based on Chandra data, strongly support a picture in which PKS 0043-42 has a torus and accretion disc more typical of Strong-Line Radio Galaxies (SLRGs). The MIR and X-ray spectra are markedly different from those of other WLRGs at similar redshifts, and here we show that the former can be successfully fitted with clumpy torus models with parameters characteristic of Type-2 AGN tori: close to edge-on (i=74 deg) and relatively broad (torus angular width=60 deg), with an outer radius of 2 pc, hydrogen column density ~1.6x10^(23) cm^(-2), and AGN bolometric luminosity ~1.6x10^(44) erg s^(-1). The presence of a compact torus in PKS 0043-42 provides evidence that this WLRG is fuelled by cold, rather than hot, gas accretion. We suggest that WLRGs are a diverse population, and PKS 0043-42 may represent a type of radio galaxy in which the AGN activity has been recently re-triggered as a consequence of intermittent gas supply, or in which the covering factor of the Narrow-Line Region (NLR) clouds is relatively low.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Extracting User Behavior at Electric Vehicle Charging Stations with Transformer Deep Learning Models

[EN] Mobile applications have become widely popular for their ability to access real-time information. In electric vehicle (EV) mobility, these applications are used by drivers to locate charging stations in public spaces, pay for charging transactions, and engage with other users. This activity generates a rich source of data about charging infrastructure and behavior. However, an increasing share of this data is stored as unstructured text—inhibiting our ability to interpret behavior in real-time. In this article, we implement recent transformer-based deep learning algorithms, BERT and XLnet, that have been tailored to automatically classify short user reviews about EV charging experiences. We achieve classification results with a mean accuracy of over 91% and a mean F1 score of over 0.81 allowing for more precise detection of topic categories, even in the presence of highly imbalanced data. Using these classification algorithms as a pre-processing step, we analyze a U.S. national dataset with econometric methods to discover the dominant topics of discourse in charging infrastructure. After adjusting for station characteristics and other factors, we find that the functionality of a charging station is the dominant topic among EV drivers and is more likely to be discussed at points-of-interest with negative user experiences.Marchetto, D.; Ha, S.; Dharur, S.; Asensio, O. A social and emotional model for obtaining believable emergent behaviors

Proceeding of: 13th International Conference, AIMSA 2008, Varna, Bulgaria, September 4-6, 2008This paper attempts to define an emotional model for virtual agents that behave autonomously in social worlds. We adopt shallow modeling based on the decomposition of the emotional state in two qualities: valence (pleasantness or hedonic value) and arousal (bodily activation) and, also, for the agent personality based on the five factors model (openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism). The proposed model aims to endow agents with a satisfactory emotional state achieved through the social actions, i.e. the development of social abilities. Psychology characterizes these social abilities for: using the language as a tool (verbal and nonverbal communication), being learned, producing reciprocal reward among the individuals involved in the communication and for depending on the individual features. We have implemented our model in the framework of a computer game, AI-live, to show its validity.Publicad

Estudio comparativo del comportamiento vibratorio de un conjunto de turbinas eólicas

El proyecto “Estudio comparativo del comportamiento vibratorio de un conjunto de turbinas eólicas” pretende, en las hojas que siguen, determinar patrones de respuesta vibratoria en diferentes posiciones de la cadena de transmisión de potencia. El interés de dicho estudio reside en la mejora de los sistemas de mantenimiento predictivo basados en vibraciones. De esta forma se podrá aumentar la fiabilidad y eficiencia de estas máquinas generadoras de energía eléctrica a partir de las corrientes de aire. Para ello, se ha dispuesto de una serie de mediciones vibratorias tomadas durante un período aproximado de 6 meses en cuatro turbinas de un parque eólico. Estas turbinas han sido seleccionadas por ser del mismo diseño, tener el mismo tamaño y también los mismos componentes. Al mismo tiempo también se ha dispuesto de registros de las condiciones meteorológicas y en concreto de las velocidades de las corrientes de viento, así como de las condiciones de operación en términos de potencia generada, velocidad de giro, ángulos de las palas, etc. Toda la información ha sido recopilada y tratada para su posterior análisis comparativo. Los espectros de las vibraciones han permitido identificar las firmas vibratorias características en los diferentes componentes de la cadena cinemática de transmisión de potencia desde el rotor hasta el generador pasando por la multiplicadora. Y finalmente, las amplitudes de las frecuencias más relevantes han sido correlacionadas con la velocidad del viento y de esta forma se ha confirmado la interdependencia entre ambos parámetros
