The paradigm of the arts education in the future must be able to apply various approaches where learners can cultivate their views and tolerant attitude towards the cultural diversity in Indonesia. The arts education is expected to be a compulsory course in universities so that the students have sensitive, aesthetic, creative and innovative attitude as well as adaptive character to any change and good ethics in expressing their creativities. It is not just an education generated only for the sake of art competition but must become a daily necessity. In facing the globalization phenomenon, the arts education is made to utilize multicultural approach which can be accepted by various circles of society. The arts educa- tion with a multicultural approach should have flexibility and rely on the ability of the learners and the socio-cultural conditions of the local society. The role of the arts educators is expected to not only pos- sess the local artistic knowledge, but also the knowledge about other regional arts so that in this way the students obtain complete knowledge of arts and culture as well as fostering the sense of tolerance with the diversity

Hardcore bosons in a zig-zag optical superlattice

We study a system of hard-core bosons at half-filling in a one-dimensional optical superlattice. The bosons are allowed to hop to nearest and next-nearest neighbor sites producing a zig-zag geometry and we obtain the ground state phase diagram as a function of microscopic parameters using the finite-size density matrix renormalization group (FS-DMRG) method. Depending on the sign of the next-nearest neighbor hopping and the strength of the superlattice potential the system exhibits three different phases, namely the bond-order (BO) solid, the superlattice induced Mott insulator (SLMI) and the superfluid (SF) phase. When the signs of both hopping amplitudes are the same (the "unfrustrated" case), the system undergoes a transition from the SF to the SLMI at a non-zero value of the superlattice potential. On the other hand, when the two amplitudes differ in sign (the "frustrated" case), the SF is unstable to switching on a superlattice potential and also exists only up to a finite value of the next nearest neighbor hopping. This part of the phase diagram is dominated by the BO phase which breaks translation symmetry spontaneously even in the absence of the superlattice potential and can thus be characterized by a bond order parameter. The transition from BO to SLMI appears to be first order.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figure

Mean field analysis of quantum phase transitions in a periodic optical superlattice

In this paper we analyze the various phases exhibited by a system of ultracold bosons in a periodic optical superlattice using the mean field decoupling approximation. We investigate for a wide range of commensurate and incommensurate densities. We find the gapless superfluid phase, the gapped Mott insulator phase, and gapped insulator phases with distinct density wave orders.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, 4 table

Life and (non)Living: Technological and Human Conglomeration in Android Kunjappan Version 5.25

In post-modern society, we (humans) share our space with machines. Though there is no doubt in the efficiency of the machines there is always a doubt in their reason. Machines being programmed cannot exercise reason like humans. Their assistance is limited to the commands designed by the engineer. The Malayalam movie Android Kunjappan Version 5.25 pictures the limitations and advantages of one such robotic creation. The movie narrates the tale of an old man and his association with a robot which becomes his solace and companion. The film questions the association between humans and machines. It raises the fear of constructing and destroying the boundaries between the machine world and the human world. This article attempts to use the concept of cyborg introduced by Donna Haraway in ‘Cyborg Manifesto’; though Haraway uses the concept of a cyborg from a Feminist perspective, the paper attempts to look at the relationship between man and machine using the concept ‘cyborg’. This fusion of the living and non-living is sceptical and this anxiety is presented in the film. The film also captured the naivety of the commoners who are new to the monstrous world of machines. The paper’s primary aim is to list how cyborgs transgress the limitations set by society. Another objective is to discuss the anxieties of the post-modern world when technology and life hold hands. The article considers the film a futuristic art that leaves a message to the viewers; cyborgs will become an inevitable facet of the human world

    Fetus-in-fetu: A Rare Congenital Anomaly

Two cases of fetus-in-fetu, on which we performed surgery in 2003 and 2006, are being reported. Both the cases presented with a lump in the abdomen. Radiology confirmed the diagnosis. The lumps were found in the retroperitoneum and successfully excised. Because of the rarity of the condition, these two cases are being reported with relevant salient features and are discussed in the light of available literature. Key words: Abdominal lump, axial skeleton, fetus-in-fetu, retroperitoneal, teratom

Data obtained through observation, depth interviews and interviews using questionnaires. Meanwhile, the results of this study showed 1) The differences of internet USAge pattern in the two villages 2) The availability of internet access in Cibatok I Village have made impacts to the socio-economic changes of teenagers life. Meanwhile, it is not clearly seen in teenagers live at Pangradin Villag

Knowledge sharing is one of the important stages in organization’s knowledge management. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) construction is one example of organization’s knowledge sharing activity. SOP would be well constructed by participatively involve employees because they know best about each activity in their job. To picture knowledge sharing activity in SOP construction, this research used Theory of Planned Behavior as a theoretical framework. The aim of this research was to look at employee’s knowledge sharing intention in SOP construction and factors which shaped their intention, such as attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control (PBC).This research used qualitative approach. Interviews were conducted to five respondents from the two divisions of the organization. The interviews guideline was adapted from elicitation beliefs’ questions constructed by Ajzen. The result showed that most respondents showed intention to share knowledge in SOP construction, while PBC was being evaluated as the most instrumental factor in shaping that intention. Limited intention is the result of the absence of some factors regarding knowledge sharing facility such as time availability, discussion forum and formal guideline about knowledge sharing activity. Target of the intervention which constructed by taking a closer look into that factors
