The future impact of oil volatility on commodity prices

    Get PDF
The aim of this research was to compare two methods used in terms of oil volatility and its effects on the development of different commodities. We tried to find out if there is any positive or negative relationship between price movements and if the volatility prices of oil affect the volatility prices of silver, copper and aluminium. For the purpose of this study we used GARCH and VAR models. When examining oil volatility by VAR model, we used the Granger-Causality test to find causality between commodities. And at the end of this research we examined by the impulse responses and the variance decompositions whether changes in the value of a given commodity have a positive or negative effect on other commodities in the system, or how long it would take for the effect of that commodity to work through the system

San Joaquin River\u27s Sediment Textural Features

    Get PDF
The research will be focusing on sediments from Turlock Lake and Riverbank. My focus is to analyze the sediments to know if there are any correlations between the textural features of the sediments between Turlock Lake and Riverbank based on their size. It is expected the environment of the lakes and the rivers has an effect in the changes and if the energy of the water flow also affects the different textural features. The textural features will focus on; roundness, shiny vs. dull, rough vs. smooth, and their shape. The shape is calculated by the three dimensions of the sediment; the longest point, shortest point, and the middle point. A chart was used to determine the measurement. Depending where the measuring land we get their shape. All the textural features will be compared with the different sizes of the sediments. Different histograms will be used to compare the different sizes of the sediment with their textural features. By comparing the textural features based on their sizes some correlations between the sizes and their features will be identified. Once again the research is focusing on analyzing the sediments from Turlock Lake and Riverbank to see some correlations between the different sizes of the sediments. The differences will be expected to be based on the environment of the rivers and lakes and the energy of the water flow. The energy of the water flow will affect how round a rock will be. Stable rocks are rounder because it requires higher energy flow

Impact of merger and acquisition announcements on the acquiring shareholders' wealth : the case of Nokia and Apple

    Get PDF
Academic research on merger and acquisitions has been driven on studying the short and long term impact that acquisition announcements have on the shareholder wealth for the acquiring and target firms. This study concentrates on describing in the short term the impact that M&A announcements have on the acquiring firm’s stock market returns taking into account acquisitions that have been carried out by two important players within the telecommunication industry Apple and Nokia from 2005 to 2010. In order to calculate the normal returns for the acquiring firms, the market model based on the capital asset pricing model (CAPM) was used. Also, the NASDAQ 100 market index was used in the market model. The Abnormal returns (AR) will be cumulated to obtain cumulated abnormal returns (CAR) over a window period (-3, 3) after that, statistical test will be done for ARs and CARs to ensure the statistical validity of stock reaction to M&A announcements. The results showed from the empirical analysis of this research are consistent with the hypothesis that was formulated indicating that the M&A announcements do have an impact on the stock prices and returns in the short term, meaning that they have an influence during the day of the announcement and three days after.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format

Biology, fisheries and culture of tropical groupers and snappers

    Get PDF
Groupers and snappers are important fishery resources of the tropics and subtropics, where their high values have caused most of their stocks to be heavily exploited, some even to the point of collapse. Trends towards heavy demand and decreasing natural supply, which are accelerating in several parts of the world, prompted various mariculture ventures. Focused research on biology and the population dynamics of groupers and snappers, and on their reproduction and growth under controlled condition will remain essential for dealing with the questions on how to better manage their fisheries. This volume of papers presents important scientific findings and views on these two important groups of fish.Percoid fisheries, Fishery biology, Fishery management, Conferences

Improving Collection of Second Blood Pressure for Patients in Primary Care Who Present with an Elevated Reading

    Get PDF
Purpose: Early diagnosis of hypertension is critical to prevent complications such as renal and cardiovascular diseases. Many healthcare facilities do not have a blood pressure training program educating appropriate staff on importance of accurate blood pressure readings and techniques. The purpose of this project is to improve the number of patients with elevated blood pressure reading at the OneWorld Quick Sick Clinic. Methods: Health aides/Health Assistants/Medical assistants at OneWorld Quick Sick will receive blood pressure training to review proper techniques. During this training they will also be educated on appropriate follow-up blood pressure readings and a new technique to document elevated readings. Results: Pre-data collection was obtained over a four-month period in the Quick Sick Clinic. These results indicated that only 24.1%-56.9% of patients during this time received a second blood pressure reading. Post-data collection after the health aide training showed an increase in the average range from 50%-58.6%. Conclusions: Implementation of the health aide blood pressure training program showed positive results in appropriate follow up blood pressure collection. There were also another two locations that participated after the initiation in Quick Sick. This further showed evidence of the effectiveness of the blood pressure training program

Engagement and a Sense of Belonging in Kinesiology Undergraduate Students

    Get PDF
A student\u27s sense of belonging may promote success and retention during their undergraduate experience and could be influenced by co-curricular engagement (participation in community events organized by the home department). Even more important, an institution with a satellite “branch” campus offering less co-curricular events may see less sense of belonging in those particular students. PURPOSE: To assess undergraduate student sense of belonging based on co-curricular engagement and college campus and to investigate the findings in Kinesiology (KINE) students. METHODS: Public university students (18+ years) in California were recruited for an IRB approved Qualtrics survey in Spring 2023. Participants were asked to complete demographic questions (age, gender identity, undergraduate major) in addition to eleven questions for sense of belonging (two domains; valued competence and social acceptance) using a 6-point Likert scale, 1=strongly disagree to 6=strongly agree. Statistical analysis software (IBM SPSS v.28) was used to assess the differences (p-value of 0.05 for significance), for sense of belonging across two campuses and for those engaged in department organized community events. RESULTS: Undergraduate student respondents (N=149, age; 24.3 土 5.7 years, gender identification; n=1 other, n=111 female, and n=37 male, and KINE, n=83 or other majors, n=59) indicated they participated in department organized community events (yes=77, no=72, and KINE yes=42, no=41) or identified with either the main (n=98, KINE n=58) or branch campus (n=52, KINE n=26). Based on the Independent T-Test, sense of belonging was significantly different (p0.05) and no significant differences across the two campuses (p\u3e0.05) were found. CONCLUSION: Undergraduate students\u27 sense of belonging was significantly greater when they participated in department organized community events which was not seen in KINE students or based on campus. University administrators should be aware of the relationship between participation in department organized community events and a student\u27s sense of belonging as that may play a role in their retention and success
