Variation in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) catches related to El Niño-Southern Oscillation events at the entrance to the Gulf of California

Fishery catch data on yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) were examined to study the effects of El Niño events between 1990 and 1999 for an area in the northeastern tropical Pacific (18−24°N, 112−104°W). The data were extracted from a database of logbook records from the Mexican tuna purse-seine f leet. Latitudinal distribution of the catches increased from south to north for the 10-year period. Highest catches and effort were concentrated between 22°N and 23°N. This area accumulated 48% of the total catch over the 10year period. It was strongly correlated with El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events. At least two periods of exceptionally high catches occurred following El Niño events in 1991 and 1997. Peaks of catches were triggered by the arrival of positive anomalies of sea surface temperature (SST) to the area. A delay of two to four months was observed between the occurrence of maximum SST anomalies at the equator and peaks of catch. Prior to these two events, negative SST anomalies were the dominant feature in the study area and catch was extremely low. This trend of negative SST anomalies with low catches followed by positive SST anomalies and high catches may be attributed to northward yellowfin tuna migration patterns driven by El Niño forcing, a result that contrasts with the known behavior of decreasing relative abundance of these tuna after El Niño events in the eastern Pacific. However, this decrease in relative abundance may be the result of a local or subregional effect

Matrices Which are Discrete Versions of Linear Operations

We introduce and study a matrix which has the exponential function as one of its eigenvectors. We realize that this matrix represents a set of finite differences derivation of vectors on a partition. This matrix leads to new expressions for finite differences derivatives which are exact for the exponential function. We find some properties of this matrix, the induced derivatives and of its inverse. We provide an expression for the derivative of a product, of a ratio, of the inverse of vectors, and we also find the equivalent of the summation by parts theorem of continuous functions. Automatic anomaly detection in vibration analysis based on Machine Learning Algorithms

This paper presents an approach for automatic anomaly detection through vibration analysis based on machine learning algorithms.The study focuses on induction motors in a predictive maintenance context, but can be applied to other domains. Vibration analysis is an important diagnostic tool in industrial data analysis to predict anomaliescaused by equipment defects or in its use, allowing to increase its lifetime.It is not a new technique and is widely used in the industry, however withthe Industry 4.0 paradigm and the need to digitize any process, it gainsrelevance to automatic fault detection. The Isolation Forest algorithm isimplemented to detect anomalies in vibration datasets measured in anexperimental apparatus composed of an induction motor and a coupling system with shaft alignment/misalignment capabilities. Perfil antropométrico y aptitud física de los árbitros pertenecientes a la Asociación y a la Corporación de Árbitros de Fútbol de Risaralda

El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar el nivel de aptitud física y perfil antropométrico de los árbitros de la asociación y de la corporación departamental de árbitros de fútbol de Risaralda. La población estuvo constituida por 12 árbitros, todos de sexo masculino. El promedio de edad fue de 26.2 años, estatura 170 cm, masa corporal 63,2 Kg. Las variables de masa corporal, estatura, pliegues cutáneos, circunferencias corporales y diámetros óseos, fueron medidas con la finalidad de estimar la composición corporal y determinar el somatotipo de los árbitros. Para estimar la composición corporal se utilizaron 6 pliegues cutáneos, 4 perímetros corporales y 4 diámetros óseos. Para evaluar las variables relacionadas con la aptitud física se utilizó la nueva batería de test físicos de la FIFA, que determina evaluar al árbitro en primera instancia en cuanto a su capacidad anaeróbica al ejecutar carreras rápidas (6 x 40 m), y a su vez medir la capacidad de potencia aérobica en la segunda prueba. Adicional a esto se estimó la potencia aérobica máxima específica a través del test de Leger. Con respecto a los datos de composición corporal, los resultados indicaron que el porcentaje graso fue de 9 %, con un somatotipo promedio de 2,4 - 2,7 - 3,1, registrando una clasificación de tipo central ya que ningún componente difiere más de media unidad. Los resultados relacionados a la aptitud física mostraron que los árbitros de Risaralda cubrieron, en promedio, 5,2 segundos el test anaeróbico, mientras que en el segundo, todos cubrieron cómodamente la distancia de 4000 metros. La potencia aérobica máxima los árbitros registraron un promedio de 39,9, lo cual indica un Vo2 Max malo. La mayor acumulación de grasa en árbitros puede ser una limitante del rendimiento físico durante el partido, también es una limitante en el rendimiento el bajo nivel del Vo2 Max
