Dynamics of elastically strained islands in presence of an anisotropic surface energy

The equilibrium solutions and coarsening dynamics of strained semi-conductor islands are investigated analytically and numerically. We develop an analytical model to study the effect of surface energy anisotropy on the dynamics coarsening of islands. We propose a simple model to explain the effect of this anisotropy on the coarsening time. We find that the anisotropy slows down the coarsening. This effect is rationalised using a quasi-analytical description of the island profile

Palinología e importancia paleoambiental de la Formación Tunal (Daniano) en su localidad tipo, Quebrada el Chorro (Salta, Argentina).

The palynologic investigation of samples from the Tunal Formation at El Chorro creek (Salta, Argentina) resulted in the recovery of terrestrial assemblages of pollen and spores associated with freshwater algae (Pediastrum spp. and Scenedesmus sp.). Of the 43 species of sporomorphs identified for the Tunal Formation so far, 28 species are cited here for the first time. The spores and pollen indicate a Danian age at the type locality. Sedimentary proxidata including abundant evaporites suggest intervals of at least seasonal arid environmental conditions. In contrast, the palynologic assemblages recovered from the organic rich dark shales indicate the presence of swampy areas and forests surrounding them. The dominance of Verrustephanoporites simplex Leidelmeyer (corresponding to the modern Phyllostylon, Ulmaceae) indicates abundant seasonal rainfalls, warm humid conditions and subtropical climate. It is with regret and sadness that docomomo Argentina informs the international docomomo community that architect Clorindo Testa passed away on April 11 2013. Testa was an architect and urban planner but also a painter whose artistic sensitivity has been always present in the way he conceived architecture

Birhythmicity, Synchronization, and Turbulence in an Oscillatory System with Nonlocal Inertial Coupling

    Get PDF
We consider a model where a population of diffusively coupled limit-cycle oscillators, described by the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, interacts nonlocally via an inertial field. For sufficiently high intensity of nonlocal inertial coupling, the system exhibits birhythmicity with two oscillation modes at largely different frequencies. Stability of uniform oscillations in the birhythmic region is analyzed by means of the phase dynamics approximation. Numerical simulations show that, depending on its parameters, the system has irregular intermittent regimes with local bursts of synchronization or desynchronization.Comment: 21 pages, many figures. This is an analytical descriptive empirical juridical study to analyze the data obtained through field research related to the specific theory of law related to agrarian law. Through this study, the problems found in the field were explained and analyzed then a conclusion was drawn to be the solution to problems. The data analysis was conducted by concluding the primary and secondary data which then were evaluated and qualitatively analyzed to discuss the problems based on the data found in the field and the regulations of legislation related to the agrarian law to obtain new description or to strengthen the existing description in answering the problems and drawing a conclusion as well as beneficial suggestions. Land conflict in Langkat District occured due to the factors of lack of knowledge and legal awareness and unfavorable behavior due to the high dependence on land in meeting the daily life necessities in the community in Langkat District. The settlement of the conflict occured in Langkat District was done through mediation at the Langkat District Land Office and if this mediation failed the conflict settlement was usually continued to be sttled through litigation (court of law)

Novela y teatralidad en Leopoldo Marechal

    Get PDF
Fil: Lena Paz, Marta Argentina

Jarosite versus Soluble Iron-Sulfate Formation and Their Role in Acid Mine Drainage Formation at the Pan de Azúcar Mine Tailings (Zn-Pb-Ag), NW Argentina

    Get PDF
Secondary jarosite and water-soluble iron-sulfate minerals control the composition of acid mine waters formed by the oxidation of sulfide in tailings impoundments at the (Zn-Pb-Ag) Pan de Azúcar mine located in the Pozuelos Lagoon Basin (semi-arid climate) in Northwest (NW) Argentina. In the primary zone of the tailings (9.5 wt % pyrite-marcasite) precipitation of anglesite (PbSO4), wupatkite ((Co,Mg,Ni)Al2(SO4)4) and gypsum retain Pb, Co and Ca, while mainly Fe2+, Zn2+, Al3+, Mg2+, As3+/5+ and Cd2+ migrate downwards, forming a sulfate and metal-rich plume. In the oxidation zone, jarosite (MFe3(TO4)2(OH)6) is the main secondary Fe3+ phase; its most suitable composition is M = K+, Na+, and Pb2+and TO4 = SO42−; AsO42−. During the dry season, iron-sulfate salts precipitate by capillary transport on the tailings and at the foot of DC2 (tailings impoundment DC2) tailings dam where an acid, Fe2+ rich plume outcrops. The most abundant compounds in the acid mine drainage (AMD) are SO42−, Fe2+, Fe3+, Zn2+, Al3+, Mg2+, Cu2+, As3+/5+, Cd2+. These show peak concentrations at the beginning of the wet season, when the soluble salts and jarosite dissolve. The formation of soluble sulfate salts during the dry season and dilution during the wet season conform an annual cycle of rapid metals and acidity transference from the tailings to the downstream environment.Fil: Murray, Jesica María.
