This study aimed to characterise the profile of the child and the adolescent who were maltreated and taken into paediatric emergency care in a hospital, in Fortaleza, Ceará. It was used a documented retrospective evaluation. The results showed that the children in the age group of 1-5 years were the most victimised as well as the children of the male sex. The main perpetrator was a biological father and the most frequent kind of violence were hematomas, sexual abuse and wounds by slashing objects. In conclusion, this subject needs to be more investigated for providing changes within the' environment where a child, adolescent and families were inserted.O estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar o perfil da criança e adolescente maltratados e atendidos em um hospital de emergência, no Município de Fortaleza, Ceará.

    Spreading remote lab usage: A system — A community — A Federation

Experiments have been at the heart of scientific development and education for centuries. From the outburst of Information and Communication Technologies, virtual and remote labs have added to hands-on labs a new conception of practical experience, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education. This paper aims at describing the features of a remote lab named Virtual Instruments System in Reality, embedded in a community of practice and forming the spearhead of a federation of remote labs. More particularly, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of remote labs over virtual labs as regards to scalability constraints and development and maintenance costs. Finally, it describes an actual implementation in an international community of practice of engineering schools forming the embryo of a first world wide federation of Virtual Instruments System in Reality nodes, under the framework of a project funded by the Erasmus+ Program.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Chapter 1

Experimenting is fundamental to the training process of all scientists and engineers. While experiments have been traditionally done inside laboratories, the emergence of Information and Communication Technologies added two alter-natives accessible anytime, anywhere. These two alternatives are known as virtual and remote labs, and are sometimes indistinguishably referred as online labs. Sim-ilarly to other instructional technologies, virtual and remote labs require some ef-fort from teachers in integrating them into curricula, taking into consideration sev-eral factors that affect their adoption (i.e. cost) and their educational effectiveness (i.e. benefit). This chapter analyses these two dimensions and sustains the case where only through international cooperation it is possible to serve the large num-ber of teachers and students involved in engineering education. It presents an ex-ample in the area of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, based on a remote lab named Virtual Instruments System in Reality, and it then describes how a number of European and Latin-American institutions have been cooperating under the scope of an Erasmus+ project2, for spreading its use in Brazil and Argentina.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Lab-based Education

Lab-based education plays an important role for students adopting science and technology-based careers. The sudden transition to a distance learning environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic and how teachers have tackled with providing lab-based teaching while trying to improve students’ engagement and motivation, is the focus of the presented works. A good diversification of teaching approaches such as PBL, teamwork, gamification or the integration of complementary resources is presented. Additionally, the VISIR+ project is also addressed in the context of a study on Brazil's Educational reality, related to Engineering Education. The VISIR remote lab is also presented as a versatile tool, to be used in several subject areas, other than electronic and electrical circuits. The chairs of this track session would like to thank the members of its Scientific Committee and all contributing authors for their efforts in enhancing the discussion upon this thematic. The authors would also like to acknowledge the financial support provided by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology Project, FCT UIDB/04730/2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The invention stated herein concerns a solution for shoe soles which are adaptable to plantar arch morphology. The solution is essentially characterized by combining. Into a single sole. Arch support (4) internally as an integral component of the sole (2) and an insert (1) having a smaller young's modulus than that of the remaining sole (2) externally as an integral component of the sole and confined to the midfoot region (3). This combination of characteristics, which increases the contact area between the foot and the shoe, at the insert of the sole, provides for a more effective damping of plantar forces and leads to a more efficient solution regarding the redistribution and decrease of the maximum forces that act in the midfoot region.

Do Students Really Understand the Difference Between Simulation and Remote Labs?

    No full text
Laboratory experiments play a crucial role in engineering education as they strongly contribute to the development of important skills for the professional practice. This paper addresses a students’ understanding gap between simulations and remote labs. These two resources (and namely the remote laboratory VISIR - Virtual Instrument Systems in Reality) have been commonly used on several didactical implementations, along with other didactical resources in different Engineering degrees at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and Polytechnic of Porto School of Engineering. This work, developed in the scope of the VISIR+ Project, intends to evaluate students’ perceptions considering simulation and remote lab results. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed to better understand how deeply students realize the differences between these resources and their type of data. Preliminary results indicate that a considerable number of student’s don´t have a clear idea of these differences, even though sometimes they know their definition. Furthermore, these gap does not seem to differ much with the context (country, course, academic year, course content), students’ final grades, teacher approach or implemented tasks.N/
