Fluorescence resonance energy transfer between organic dyes adsorbed onto nano-clay and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films

In this communication we investigate two dyes N,N' -dioctadecyl thiacyanine perchlorate (NK) and octadecyl rhodamine B chloride (RhB) in Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films with or with out a synthetic clay laponite. Observed changes in isotherms of RhB in absence and presence of nano-clay platelets indicate the incorporation of clay platelets onto RhB-clay hybrid films. AFM image confirms the incorporation of clay in hybrid films. FRET was observed in clay dispersion and LB films with and without clay. Un vínculo duradero: sobre un ritual de muerte transferida en la antigua Cinópolis

This paper seeks to analyse two groups of reddish wax magic figurines discovered in the cemetery of the ancient city of Cynopolis and preserved at the Antiquities Museum of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, with the aim of offering a critical and updated exegesis of these exceptional magical artefacts from Roman Egypt. By analysing features including material, colour, morphology and iconography, and by examining the effigies alongside parallel rituals, I argue that this ensemble should be best understood as a ‘transferred death ritual’, whose aim was to ensure an effective death and the sending of the deceased to the underworld.En el presente artículo se analizan dos grupos de figurillas mágicas de cera procedentes del cementerio de la antigua ciudad de Cinópolis, que se conservan en el Museo de Antigüedades de la Biblioteca de Alejandría. El objetivo principal reside en ofrecer una interpretación crítica y actualizada de estos excepcionales artefactos del Egipto romano. A través del análisis de cuestiones como el material, el color, la morfología e iconografía, y de la comparación de las efigies con otros paralelos rituales, se plantea que el significado de este conjunto se comprende mejor dentro de los denominados “rituales de muerte transferida”, cuyo propósito era la muerte efectiva de las víctimas y su traslado al inframundo

Ejemplos de realidad modificada aplicada a la desmaterialización de fachadas mediante imágenes digitales

Es tal la organización del cerebro, que su poder integrador es mayor en los ojos, mucho menor en el oído y aun menor en el olfato y en el gusto. Esto significa que desde el punto de vista de trasmisión de información, el ancho de banda más amplio se encuentra cuando se utiliza el sentido de la vista en cualquier proceso de comunicación humano. Bajo el nombre de realidad modificada se recogen todas aquellas técnicas que permiten ofrecer una imagen modificada de la(s) superficie(s) de un objeto, ya sea para lograr una mejor calidad o más realismo, o para obtener una composición totalmente diferente que distorsione la realidad. Para llevar a cabo dicho proceso, se utilizan las tecnologías digitales que permiten eliminar la frontera existente entre realidad e irrealidad. La amplia variedad de posibilidades que ésta ofrece, ha facilitado el establecimiento de un estatus de realidad, denominada “Mediated Reality” que en este artículo se denominará “Realidad Modificada”. Este tipo de realidad favorece la experimentación, pudiendo adoptar, potenciar o desestimar aspectos puestos en práctica en estos entornos, en la propia cotidianidad. Se trataría pues de un espacio de interrelación entre los espacios cotidianos reales y esa realidad modificada, en que las propias experiencias en estos entornos producen una mutua influencia, generando una ruptura de las fronteras entre ambos. En este artículo se describirá dicha realidad, se mostrarán los elementos principales de diseño que se deben tener en cuenta a la hora de ofrecer imágenes de elevada calidad, los condicionantes de este tipo de tecnologías, y se mostrarán aplicaciones reales de esta tecnología.Regarding the organization of the brain, the integrative power is greater in the eyes, much less in the ear and even less on smell and taste. It means that from the perspective of information transmission, the bandwidth is larger when the sense of sight is the way in witch any human communication process happen. The name Mediated Realims refers to those techniques that offer a modified image of an object, either for better quality or realism, or to get a totally different composition distorting reality. In order to carry out this process, we use digital technologies that eliminate the border between reality and unreality. This Mediated Realism offers the possibility of doing experimentation in the daily life. It produces a new space of interaction between reality and the spaces produced by Mediated Realism, generating a breakdown of the boundaries between both of them. In this paper we describe this reality, we will show the main elements of design that must be taken into account in order to produce high quality images and the constraints of this type of technology, and finally we will show real applications of this technology.Peer Reviewe

Sobre la biología del águila calzada Hieraëtus pennatus (Gmelin, 1788) en Navarra

Trata el presente trabajo de aspectos de la Biología del Águila calzada (Hieraétus pennatus) durante el período reproductor según observaciones realizadas en unos parajes de la zona media de Navarra. Comienza con la descripción del sistema de trabajo y posteriormente, se describe la especie, su habitat, distribución geográfica y estatus en Navarra. Según fechas de observación de los autores se trata de la fenología de migración. Un capítulo más extenso describe el comportamiento territorial y nupcial de la especie y se dan todos los datos básicos relativos a fechas de puesta de huevos, nacimiento de los pollos, período de dependencia con sus padres etc. Se citan observaciones originales relativas a la agresividad entre los pollos en varias especies de rapaces. Se dan datos sobre alimentación de las especies y el trabajo acaba describiendo los cambios de los individuos que compusieron una pareja de águilas calzadas que nidificó en el mismo bosque durante 17 años, pudiéndose estudiar, por ello, la productividad de tal pareja en dicho período de tiempo

Photosensitizer-Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles Combination for Enhanced Photodynamic Therapy

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are widely known for their versatile applications. One of the most extended is as drug delivery systems for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. This review compiles the most representative examples in the last years of functionalized MSNs as photosensitizer carriers for photodynamic therapy (PDT) against cancer. Several commercially available photosensitizers (PSs) demonstrated poor solubility in an aqueous medium and insufficient selectivity for cancer tissues. The tumor specificity of PSs is a key factor for enhancing the PDT effect and at the same time reducing side effects. The use of nanoparticles and particularly MSNs, in which PS is covalently anchored or physically embedded, can overcome these limitations. For that, PS-MSNs can be externally decorated with compounds of interest in order to act as an active target for certain cancer cells, demonstrating enhanced phototoxicity in vitro and in vivo. The article analyzes the actual crisis and its origin in bad Public Administration, derived from the corruption and the immunity that public offices enjoyed until now. The new Law on Transparency seems to want to change the situation with strong sanctions for corruption and incompetence in public office. El artículo analiza la crisis actual y su origen en la mala administración pública, derivada de la corrupción y la inmunidad de la que disfrutaban los cargos públicos hasta ahora.
