«Dictadura sanitaria», educación y propaganda higiénica en el México Revolucionario, 1917-1934

Este trabajo estudia la denominada «dictadura sanitaria» en México, cuyas bases legales se establecieron en la Constitución Política de 1917, pero mantenida más a un nivel discursivo que en la práctica. En lugar de una política autoritaria, se prefirió la educación y la propaganda higiénicas como vías para «regenerar» al pueblo mexicano y conducir a la nación por la senda del progreso y de la civilización. El artículo trata de mostrar la importancia concedida a la propaganda higiénica entre 1917 y 1934 por el régimen surgido de la revolución mexicana de 1910-1917

Women in Transition – Menopause and Body Composition in Different Populations

Human biology has provided valuable and applicable points of view to contribute towards human welfare, when it has analyzed changes in the transitional phases of the ontogenetic process. The purpose of this presentation coincides with WHO recommendations to study the modifications suffered by the female body during her stage of reproductive aging in different environments. We study and compared three different groups of women living in the cities of Madrid (Spain), Havana (Cuba) and in Tuxpan, a village in the State of Michoacán (Mexico). Three groups differed with respect to their socio-economic levels, food habits, social organization and culture. We used the same anthropometric techniques, recommended by the IBP, and same tools to assess the women\u27s reproductive life, demography and socio-economic condition. All three groups coincidences regarding the remodelation of their thorax, so after 55 years of age their waist-hip ratio surpassed the cut point of 0.80, associated whit higher risk for chronic cardiovascular disorders. However, examined groups differed, for instance, the rural Mexican women altered their bone density earlier, five years before the urban samples. Más allá de El Aleph: la noción de barrio en la historiografía urbana y la validez de las historias barriales

En este escrito nos hemos propuesto reflexionar en torno a la validez historiográfica de esta operación consistente en aislar para su estudio, un fragmento que está vinculado orgánicamente a una totalidad. En gran medida, pensamos la validez de esta tarea se sostiene en la noción de barrio que el historiador o la historiadora tomen como punto de partida para su trabajo. Como veremos, existen sólidos argumentos que cuestionan la viabilidad teórica y práctica de las historias barriales. Aquí tratamos de dar cuenta de esos argumentos a partir del desarrollo de varias historias de barrios producidas tanto en México como en Estados Unidos y Francia. Paralelamente, veremos hasta qué grado es maleable el término "barrio” y cuáles son las distintas nociones que se manean de él tanto en obras de consulta como en crónicas y trabajos históricos. Stress proteins of Clostridium perfringens type A immunoreact with antiserum from rabbits infected with gas gangrene

Various stressors were used to induce stress proteins in Clostridium perfringens. Cultures of C. perfringens FD-1041 were subjected to cold shock (28°C for 1 h), acid shock (pH 4.5 for 30 min), or heat shock (50°C for 30 min). Cells were lysed and protein samples were analyzed by immunoblotting with antiserum derived from rabbits suffering from gas gangrene. Eight cold shock proteins (approximate Mr 101, 82, 70, 37, 22, 12, 10 and 6 kDa) and also eight heat shock proteins (approximate Mr 101, 82, 70, 27, 22, 16, 12 and 10 kDa) were immunoreactive with the serum. No immunoreactive proteins were detected in samples subjected to acid shock proteins and purified DnaKprotein was also non-immunoreactive with the serum. These immunogenic stress proteins may be important in regulating diseases caused by C. perfringens . Such proteins could be involved in cell survival mechanisms, serve as targets during infection, or play a role in recognition of the bacteria by the host

Osiris: A Tool for Abstraction and Verification of Control Software with Lookup Tables

Some industrial systems are difficult to formally verify due to their large scale. In particular, the widespread use of lookup tables in embedded systems across diverse industries, such as aeronautics and automotive systems, create a critical obstacle to the scalability of formal verification. This paper presents Osiris, a tool that automatically computes abstractions of lookup tables. Osiris uses these abstractions to verify a property in first order logic. If the verification fails, Osiris uses a falsification heuristic to search for a violation of the specification. We validate our technique on a public benchmark of an adaptive cruise controller with lookup tables
