Power Factor Corrector Design applied to an 85-kHz Wireless Charger
Wireless charging technology extends the battery autonomy by allowing more flexible and practical ways of recharging it even when the electric vehicle is on move. The frequency conversion, which is required to generate a kHz-ranged magnetic field, also leads to considerable harmonics. As a result, the power factor and the corresponding efficiency decrement. This paper proposes a Power Factor Corrector which overcomes this drawback. The most relevant feature of the designed Power Factor Corrector is that it does not need any electrical signal from the secondary side to adjust its operation properly. The simulation results show the ability of the proposed scheme to increment the system efficiency for different State-Of-Charge in the Battery.Universidad de Málaga. Is a bad will a weak will? Cognitive dispositions modulate folk attributions of weakness of will
In line with recent efforts to empirically study the folk concept of weakness of will, we examine two issues in this paper: (1) How is weakness of will attribution [WWA] influenced by an agent’s violations of best judgment and/or resolution, and by the moral valence of the agent’s action? (2) Do any of these influences depend on the cognitive dispositions of the judging individual? We implemented a factorial 2x2x2 between–subjects design with judgment violation, resolution violation, and action valence as independent variables, and measured participants’ cognitive dispositions using Frederick’s Cognitive Reflection Test [CRT]. We conclude that intuitive and reflective individuals have two different concepts of weakness of will. The study supports this claim by showing that: a) the WWA of intuitive subjects is influenced by the action’s (and probably also the commitment’s) moral valence, while the WWA of reflective subjects is not; b) judgment violation plays a small role in the WWA of intuitive subjects, while reflective subjects treat resolution violation as the only relevant trait. Data were collected among students at two different universities. All subjects (N=710) answered the CRT. A three-way ANOVA was first conducted on the whole sample and then on the intuitive and reflective groups separately. This study suggests that differences in cognitive dispositions can significantly impact the folk understanding of philosophical concepts, and thus suggests that analysis of folk concepts should take cognitive dispositions into account
The Distances of the Galactic Novae
Utilising the unique location of red clump giants on colour-magnitude
diagrams obtained from various near-IR surveys, we derived specific
reddening-distance relations towards 119 Galactic novae for which independent
reddening measurements are available. Using the derived distance-extinction
relation and the independent measurements of reddening we calculated the most
likely distances for each system. We present the details of our distance
measurement technique and the results of this analysis, which yielded the
distances of 73 Galactic novae and allowed us to set lower limits on the
distances of 46 systems. We also present the reddening-distance relations
derived for each nova, which may be useful to analyze the different Galactic
components present in the line of sight.Comment: Published in MNRAS (24 pages, 12 figures, 4 tables), Minor typo

Evolving Aesthetic Maps for a Real Time Strategy Game
ArtÃculo publicado en congreso SEED'2013 (I Spanish Symposium on Entertainment Computing), Septiembre 2013, Madrid. This paper presents a procedural content generator method that have
been able to generate aesthetic maps for a real-time strategy game. The
maps has been characterized based on several of their properties in order
to de ne a similarity function between scenarios. This function has guided
a multi-objective evolution strategy during the process of generating and
evolving scenarios that are similar to other aesthetic maps while being
di erent to a set of non-aesthetic scenarios. The solutions have been
checked using a support-vector machine classi er and a self-organizing
map obtaining successful results (generated maps have been classi ed as
aesthetic maps)
The model that is being implemented from 1960 onward has, among other features, the novelty and
disruption that can be expected in view of the typical tourist developments of the time, more concerned with
a rapid return on investment than the deterioration of the landscape caused by its construction. Meanwhile,
in the distant Lanzarote a unique model is voted to sparkle tourism, prioritizing and safeguarding its natural
and cultural resources in the construction of the territory in which a particular esthetical projection is
recognized on the scale of the island inspired by the artist César Manrique. The creative process explains
both questions, their particular configuration, the steps taken and tools used, and its artistic expression, the
filter set by Manrique to mediate between tourism and landscape and to recognize its values.Peer Reviewe
The search for a teaching model. The workshop of architectural design
It has become common practice for more specialized training associated with summer courses and complementary learning programs for the training of future architects. However, in the organization of the teaching of Architectural Design, the workshop prevails as the workspace where the student increases their knowledge, learns how to solve problems, draws conclusions, exercises their skills, finds his or her particular method of designing and, finally, identifies the experience with creative freedo
A creole collector at Lima in the 18th century: Pedro José Bravo de Lagunas (1703-1765)
