Background. Successful treatment of severe spasticity represents an imperative of symptomatic therapy of multiple sclerosis (MS) due to a significant improvement of physical, psychic and social rehabilitation of MS patients, as well as a longterm cost savings for the additional treatments of conditions arising from uncontrolled severe spasticity. Continuous intrathecal administration of baclofen (ITB), using a subcutaneously implanted programmable infusion pump, is a minimally invasive, reversible method for the treatment of severe diffuse spasticity of the spinal origin. Case report. The first two cases in our country, treated by ITB due to severe spasticity caused by MS, were reported. Despite the local complications of surgical wound healing above the implanted components of the ITB-system in one patient, the optimal reduction of spasticity the with complete elimination of spastic pain was obtained in both patients. Conclusion. Our initial experiences confirmed ITB as a safe and effective therapeutical option for the treatment of intractable spasticity in patients with MS. Major prerequisites for this were adequate patient selection and good control of the basic disease. The use of the minimal invasive implantation technique and the experience in choosing of the adequate ITB-system components, could successfully prevent the occurrence of local complications related to the impaired healing of the ITB-system implantation site

Sinalbin degradation products in mild yellow mustard paste were investigated. The analyzed material consisted of a mild yellow mustard paste condiment and ground white mustard seeds which were originally used in the mustard paste production process. The samples were extracted in a Soxhlet extraction system and analyzed by gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. The only sinalbin degradation product in ground mustard seeds was 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetonitrile. The most abundant sinalbin degradation product in yellow mustard paste was 4-(hydroxymethyl)phenol. Other compounds identified in this sample were: 4-methyl phenol, 4-ethyl phenol, 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenol and 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ethanoic acid

The migration of bisphenol A (BPA) from epoxy-phenolic can coating into canned meat products, produced for the needs of the Serbian Armed Forces, was investigated in this work. The tinplate cans were made according to the special military demands, filled with the beef goulash or the meatballs in tomato sauce, and preserved by sterilization. The structure of internal can coating was analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy. The migration of BPA into content of the cans was investigated after storage under regular conditions in typical military facilities. The samples of beef goulash (BG) produced in 2010-2016, and the meatballs in tomato sauce (MB) produced in 2014-2017 were tested for the presence of BPA. Thereafter, the impact of storage temperature and degree of can damage on BPA migration was examined. Both meat products were thermostated on 20 and 40 degrees C, and BPA level was measured after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of storage. The level of BPA was determined in the content of undamaged cans, and cans with lower and higher degree of damage. The BPA was extracted from food with acetonitrile and the extracts were purified by QuEChERS procedure. The level of BPA was determined by LC-MS

CANNED MEAT PRODUCTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE SERBIAN ARMED FORCES: Na, K, Ca, AND Mg CONTENT AND HEALTH RISKS/BENEFITS

Macroelements such as Na, K, Ca, and Mg play a significant physiological role, and their inadequate intake has been linked to severe diseases, such as high blood pressure. Data on risk assessment for human health in Serbia, from the intake of these macroelements through the consumption of canned food, are minimal. Therefore, the content of Na, K, Ca, and Mg in five types of canned meat that members of the Serbian Armed Forces regularly use was examined. Macroelements were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in cans of beef goulash, pork ragout, spam, liver pate, and meatballs in tomato sauce, which were stored from one month to six years. The sodium content was significantly higher than the potassium content in all types of food, so the Na/K ratio below 1, desirable for good health, was not found in any of the analyzed products. Also, a significant number of samples had an unfavorable Ca/Mg ratio above 1. However, due to the low consumption of canned food by members of the Serbian Armed Forces, its contribution to the average daily intake of macroelements is almost negligible. The concentration of macroelements decreased with the shelf life, while a significant source of Ka and Mg, among analyzed ingredients, was ground red pepper. © 2022 University of Belgrade - Faculty of Agriculture. Aneurysmal bone cyst of the frontal bone

    No full text
Background. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign, expansive, osteolytic lesion that mainly occurs in young people, and involves the skull bones only exceptionally. The origin of ABC is controversial: secondary reactive bone lesion, or primary disease that represents an independent nosological entity. Blunt head trauma was suggested as a possible etiological factor. Case report. A case of a 19-year old man with primary ABC of the right frontal bone was reported. The lesion was totally excised through frontal craniotomy, and the skull bone defect primarily reconstructed with an acrilate cranioplasty. Five years after the surgery, the patient was without signs of local recurrence. Conclusion. Clinical and neuroradiological presentation of the skull ABC was not specific. Pathohistology confirmed the diagnosis. Total excision was the treatment of choice

Multiple lateral sinus pericranii: A case report

    No full text
Introduction. Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular anomaly. It is characterized by abnormal communication between the extracranial and intracranial venous system, usually involving the superior sagittal sinus and occasionally the transverse sinus. Off the midline lesions are extremely rare. Multiplicity, associated venous lakes, venous angioma and lateral location are unusual and unique presentation of sinus pericranii. Case report. A case of multiple congenital off-midline sinus pericranii in the left frontotemporal and parietal region is presented. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an extracranial vascular anomaly connected with the intracranial venous system through abnormal diploic or emissary veins. The lesions were removed completely by surgery. Conclusion. Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular malformation with unique clinical and radiological features. Sinus pericranii may cause fatal complications, and it must be treated by surgical or endovascular procedures

A genetic crow search algorithm for ptimization of operation sequencing in process planning

    Get PDF
Computer-aided process planning represents the main link between computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. One of the crucial tasks in computer-aided process planning is an operation sequencing problem. In order to find the optimal process plan, operation sequencing problem is formulated as an NP hard combinatorial problem. To solve this problem, a novel genetic crow search approach (GCSA) is proposed in this paper. The traditional CSA is improved by employing genetic strategies such as tournament selection, three-string crossover, shift and resource mutation. Moreover, adaptive crossover and mutation probability coefficients were introduced to improve local and global search abilities of the GCSA. Operation precedence graph is adopted to represent precedence relationships among features and vector representation is used to manipulate the data in the Matlab environment. A new nearest mechanism strategy is added to ensure that elements of machines, tools and tool approach direction (TAD) vectors are integer values. Repair strategy to handle precedence constraints is adopted after initialization and shift mutation steps. Minimization of total production cost is used as the optimization criterion to evaluate process plans. To verify the performance of the GCSA, two case studies with different dimensions are carried out and comparisons with traditional and some modern algorithms from the literature are discussed. The results show that the GCSA performs well for operation sequencing problem in computer-aided process planning.Web of Science115art. no. 198
