Immunolocalization of steroidogenic enzymes in the vaginal mucous of Galea spixii during the estrous cycle.

BackgroundThe synthesis of sex steroids is controlled by several enzymes such as17α-hydroxylase cytochrome P450 (P450c17) catalyzing androgen synthesis and aromatase cytochrome P450 (P450arom) catalyzing estrogen synthesis, both of which must complex with the redox partner NADPH-cytochrome P450 oxidoreductase (CPR) for activity. Previous studies have identified expression of steroidogenic enzymes in vaginal tissue, suggesting local sex steroid synthesis. The current studies investigate P450c17, P450aromatase and CPR expression in vaginal mucosa of Galea spixii (Spix cavy) by immuno-histochemical and western immunoblot analyses.MethodsStages of estrous cyclicity were monitored by vaginal exfoliative cytology. After euthanasia, vaginal tissues were retrieved, fixed and frozen at diestrus, proestrus, estrus and metestrus. The ovaries and testis were used as positive control tissues for immunohistochemistry.ResultsData from cytological study allowed identification of different estrous cycle phases. Immunohistochemical analysis showed different sites of expression of steroidogenic enzymes along with tissue response throughout different phases of the estrous cycle. However, further studies are needed to characterize the derived hormones synthesized by, and the enzymes activities associated with, vaginal tissues.ConclusionCurrent results not only support the expression of enzymes involved in sex steroid synthesis in the wall of the vagina, they also indicate that expression changes with the stage of the cycle, both the levels and types of cells exhibiting expression. Thus, changes in proliferation of vaginal epithelial cells and the differentiation of the mucosa may be influenced by local steroid synthesis as well as circulating androgens and estrogens

When Politicians Talk About Politics: Identifying Political Tweets of Brazilian Congressmen

Since June 2013, when Brazil faced the largest and most significant mass protests in a generation, a political crisis is in course. In midst of this crisis, Brazilian politicians use social media to communicate with the electorate in order to retain or to grow their political capital. The problem is that many controversial topics are in course and deputies may prefer to avoid such themes in their messages. To characterize this behavior, we propose a method to accurately identify political and non-political tweets independently of the deputy who posted it and of the time it was posted. Moreover, we collected tweets of all congressmen who were active on Twitter and worked in the Brazilian parliament from October 2013 to October 2017. To evaluate our method, we used word clouds and a topic model to identify the main political and non-political latent topics in parliamentarian tweets. Both results indicate that our proposal is able to accurately distinguish political from non-political tweets. Moreover, our analyses revealed a striking fact: more than half of the messages posted by Brazilian deputies are non-political.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures, 2 table

Impact of anticipatory grief in wives of hematological cancer patients

Las esposas suelen ser las principales cuidadoras de los pacientes adultos que padecen una enfermedad neoplásica. Debido a los altos niveles de sufrimiento de su pareja, tienen más posibilidades de desarrollar respuestas de duelo anticipado. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar el impacto del duelo anticipado en los cónyuges cuidadores de pacientes con cáncer hematológico en tratamiento en un hospital universitario del interior del Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Participaron diez esposas, con una edad media de 39 años. Los datos se recogieron mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas y se sometieron a un análisis temático. Se construyeron dos categorías: “Características individuales de los cuidadores que facilitan o dificultan la elaboración de pérdidas y cambios en la vida cotidiana” y “Efectos percibidos en el bienestar subjetivo y la salud mental de las cuidadoras”. Como cuidadoras principales, las mujeres son más propensas al impacto del duelo temprano. Los cambios en los roles familiares, sociales y laborales provocados por la enfermedad desencadenaron emociones compatibles con el duelo anticipado. Los recursos personales para afrontar el cambio y la pérdida están influidos por la edad, la educación, la clase social, la ocupación y la religión, que modulan las exigencias de la enfermedad sobre la pareja del paciente. Las mujeres describieron la carga de los cuidados y su efecto en su salud mental y equilibrio emocional. Los resultados muestran que se necesitan más políticas sanitarias para satisfacer las necesidades de las mujeres cuidadoras como grupo vulnerableWives are often the primary caregivers of adult patients facing a neoplastic disease. Due to their partner’s high levels of suffering, they have a greater chance of developing responses to anticipatory grief. This study aimed to investigate the impact of anticipatory grief on spouse caregivers of patients with hematological cancer under treatment at a university hospital in the interior of São Paulo State, Brazil. Ten wives participated, with an average age of 39 years. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and submitted to thematic analysis. Two categories were constructed: “Individual characteristics of caregivers that facilitate or hinder the elaboration of losses and changes in daily life” and “Perceived effects on the subjective well-being and mental health of spouse caregivers”. As the main responsible for the care, women are more prone to the impact of anticipatory grief. The changes in family, social and occupational roles caused by the illness triggered emotions compatible with anticipatory grief. Personal resources to deal with change and loss are influenced by age, education, social class, occupation status, and religion, which modulate the demands of the illness on the patient’s partner. Women described burden of caregiving and its effect on their mental health and emotional balance. The results highlight that more health policies are needed to address the needs of female caregivers as a vulnerable group

UMA POLÍCÍA MILITAR EM UMA SOCIEDADE DEMOCRÁTICA

Dentre as questões referentes ao serviço de segurança fornecido pelo Estado, no Brasil, aparece a tese, difundida pela imprensa e pela Universidade, segundo a qual o caráter militar de uma fração da polícia, aquela que se dedica ao policiamento ostensivo poderia fundamentar os abusos cometidos pelos policiais militares em razão da militarização da polícia. Este artigo discute esse tema, ou seja, avalia se há de fato correlação entre o abuso dos agentes e o estatuto jurídico da polícia. Para esta discussão, recorre às reflexões teóricas sobre o aparelho policial e aos discursos de oficiais policiais militares da Bahia a respeito do caráter militar da ação da polícia, examinando a pertinência ou não da associação comumente feita entre os excessos policiais e a militarização da polícia. Palavras-chave: Brasil, polícia militar, segurança pública, brutalidade policial, democracia.Military Police in a Democratic Society In Brazil, amongst the issues referring to the security service supplied by the State, the press and the Academia have disseminated a thesis, according to which the military characteristics of a fraction of the police, the one that is dedicated to the ostensive police supervision, could explain the abuses practiced by the military policeman as a consequence of the police militarization.  When discussing this topic, the paper evaluates if there is a real correlation between the abuse of the state agents and the juridical statute of the police. The discussion is based on the theoretical reflections on the apparatus of the police and on the official discourses of the military policemen, assessing whether it is pertinent or not to make an association between the police officers’ excesses and the police militarization. UNE police militaire dans une societe demo cratique Au sein des questions concernant les services de sécurité assurés par l’Etat, il existe au Brésil une thèse, diffusée par la presse et les Universités, selon laquelle le caractère militaire d’une fraction de la police, celle qui s’occupe de la surveillance ostensible, pourrait justifier les abus commis par les policiers militaires en raison de la militarisation de la police. Cet article traite de ce thème, c’est-à-dire qu’il fait une évaluation pour voir s’il y a effectivement une corrélation entre l’abus des agents et le statut juridique de la police. Pour cette discussion, on a recours à des réflexions théoriques concernant l’appareil policier et aux discours d’officiers de police militaires de Bahia concernant le caractère militaire de l’action de la police afin vérifier si l’association couramment faite entre les excès policiers et la militarisatin de la police est pertinente ou non. Yes, HCI Can Conciliate XBRL Financial Reporting Software and Their Users

This paper presents the results of a previously proposed research to mitigate the literature gap found between Human-Computer Interaction and Government to Government e-governance regarding the XBRL financial reporting area. This research conducted two usability and User eXperience evaluations with two different versions of an XBRL financial reporting software prototype. Initially the application provided XBRL knowledge abstraction and underwent HCI redesign to improve task efficiency. The results showed HCI design is a valid way to mitigate the XBRL knowledge required to elaborate XBRL financial reports problem, to improve XBRL financial reporting task efficiency, thus improving B2G and G2G e-Governance practices
