Developing Reading Material for Architecture Student at National Institute of Technology

Teaching material has a vital role in the process of teaching and learning. It is so important of a component that may not be neglected since the success in obtaining the maximum input of the knowledge depends on the proper selection of the teaching material. Moreover, in the attempt of designing the teaching material relevant to the learner needs, a need analysis is conducted. By fulfilling the learner needs, learning becomes meaningful and purposeful. The purpose of this study was to conduct a need analysis for architect students in National Institute of Technology Malang aiming at developing a reading material. A questionnaire was adopted as the method of needs analysis, prior to collecting the data, literature was reviewed. In total, 52 architecture students, 20 alumni of architecture students, 20 professional architects participated in this study. Hubungan Minat Menikah Dini dengan Kejadian Perilaku Seksual Pranikah Remaja Kelas XI di SMK PGRI Sentolo Kulon Progo

INTISARI Latar Belakang: Faktor sosial budaya memiliki peranan besar mendorong terjadinya pernikahan dini. Adanya gabungan antara nilai-nilai sosial, kesulitan ekonomi dan desakan dari pihak orang tua. Menikah dini memiliki dampak seperti risiko komplikasi kehamilan, risiko kanker serviks berkurangnya kesempatan pada pendidikan dan pekerjaan. Pergeseran norma dalam pergaulan menyebabkan perilaku seksual remaja yang dapat berdampak penyakit menular seksual. Tujuan: Diketahui hubungan minat menikah dini remaja dengan kejadian perilaku seksual pranikah remaja kelas XI SMK PGRI Sentolo Kulon Progo. Metode: Jenis penelitian pendekatan kuantitatif korelasi dengan pendekatan waktu cross sectional. Sampel penelitian diperoleh menggunakan teknik Total Sampling sebanyak 56 responden. Instrumen menggunakan kuesioner tertutup. Analisa data dengan uji statistik Kendall Tau. Hasil: Hasil uji Kendal Tau didapatkan remaja laki-laki yang memiliki minat menikah dini tinggi (17, 86%), sedang (42,86%), rendah (39, 28%). Remaja perempuan yang memiliki minat menikah dini tinggi (21, 43%) sedang (50 %), rendah (28, 57 %). Hasil kejadian perilaku seksual remaja laki-laki sangat berisiko (7, 15%) berisiko (39, 28%) tidak berisiko (53, 57 %). Kejadian perilaku seksual pranikah remaja perempuan sangat berisiko (0%) ,berisiko (35,72%), tidak berisiko (64, 28%). Hasil p value 0,000 (p< 0,05) artinya ada hubungan minat menikah dini dengan kejadian perilaku seksual pranikah di SMK PGRI Sentolo. Simpulan: Ada hubungan minat menikah dini dengan kejadian perilaku seksual pranikah remaja kelas XI di SMK PGRI Sentolo Kulon Progo. Saran: Diharapkan hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai informasi peningkatan kesehatan reproduksi pada remaja. The Use of English on Instagram Captions: A Case Study in Camera Indonesia Photography Community

Along with Instagram's growing popularity as the primary medium for sharing photos and videos, the world of photography is also expanding at a rapid pace. Instagram caption is always dropped every time people upload on social media. Photo captions often act as a result of critical thinking and a way to communicate ideas. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach to collect and describe information about the using English caption on Instagram photos from the perspectives of Camera Indonesia photography community members: frequency, purpose for dropping captions in English, its effect on their photo works, and how they view English captions on others people’ photo captions. Using 10 members as the respondents, the study found that writing caption in English act mostly as a selfexpression and has not yet done on the daily basis as the respondents do not habituate reading English material

Bioactive compounds, antidiabetic and antimicrobial potential of pinang seeds extract (Areca catechu l)

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder affecting people of all ages. The critical aspect of fruits is that rich sources of antioxidants may act in combination with each other phytochemicals to provide their protective effect. Pinang (Areca catechu L.) fruit is edible as the local indigenous plant from West Irian Jaya (Papua) Indonesia. This study was aimed at investigating the biologically active compounds of seeds, fruits, and leaves, the a-glucosidase inhibitory and antibacterial activity of seeds of Pinang against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. Pinang fruits were extracted by using the maceration method and ethanol solvent. Identify the chemical compounds in seeds by GC-MS technique, test to a-glycosidase inhibitory effect was measured with spectrophotometric. Well, the diffusion method was employed in evaluating the antimicrobial property of extracts. The evaluation of the bioactive compound of Pinang fruits revealed the presence of Vitamin E (0.20%). The inhibition of a-glucosidase of seeds extract of IC50 values was 82.74 ppm, and the global standard was 0.34 ppm. This study confirmed that Pinang seeds contain glucosidase activity that has the potency to inhibit glucose. The antimicrobial activity was performed against bacteria as it showed zone inhibition. These results indicated that Pinang seed extracts exerted potent inhibitory effects against a-glucosidase and inhibited the proliferation of Gram-negative microorganisms

Practicing Humility to Medical Students: Sharing Experience during Community Service to Specific Lay Church Congregation

Aims: The aim of this sharing of experience was to explore the foundational concepts of humility that helped medical students better understand and implement the principles of humility into his/her undergraduate medical education and also expressing it to the people they serve during community service Discussion: Medical student’s beliefs strongly contributed in the achievement of high standards and noble values, which already incorporated into medical curriculum. Unfortunately, due to their big size curriculum, medical students rarely get the opportunity to study and apply it directly in the community. Fortunately, the community service activities are only an optional activity that might help medical students become an integral part of the community and foster relationships that will build their sincere morale, especially humility. Medical students and also the community they serve surely benefiting this two-way mutualism from an involvement in community service. Conclusion: Medical students surely need out-door learning experiences, out of the classroom, clinic room and hospital room, in order to become an integral parts of the communities in which they will practice medicine

TEACHING ONLINE LISTENING CLASS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

This article discusses about how teaching listening class was implemented in the English practice program during covid-19 pandemic. Descriptive method was applied to find out whether selected material utilized by effective instructional media could meet the learning objective of the English practice program. The result showed that both the intensive and extensive material in listening class could be applied by using some media that can be used during online class by considering both students and instructors’ internet access. The selected online media platform that can replace face-to-face meeting is Google Meet application, while Google Classroom, YouTube, and WhatsApp application are selected to share and submit the class’s assignments. The teacher’s role in engaging the students with particular activities are highlighted

ASSURE MODEL FOR TEACHING SPEAKING ONLINE: TEACHER SELF REFLECTIONS

Transferring the form of face-to-face learning in conventional classes to online learning is not only as simple as changing learning materials into all-digitalization as not all teachers try to make a proper and organized preparation before starting the online teaching process. With the limited time to practice speaking skills at the National Institute of Technology Malang, the teachers are expected to have the right planning and strategies for their classes. Therefore, this paper reports on the the use of ASSURE model in teaching speaking online from the perspective of two English teachers in the National Institute of Technology Malang. This qualitative study relied primarily on in-depth interviews of the two teachers to gather the information. This research’s findings and recommendations are expected to help provide insights in preparing and developing other online speaking classes to achieve better outcomes

A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF LEARNING PLANS IN SPADA LMS BASED ON ASSURE MODEL

This research aims to investigate how Architecture department’s lecturers plan their courses through SPADA LMS from the perspective of ASSURE model. The change from face-to-face conventional learning to online requires more consideration and preparation, especially in learning planning. The ASSURE model is one of the instructions and learning plans that can be adopted in planning, identifying, determining goals, choosing media and material methods, and evaluating the course. The data collection technique was carried out by processing and analyzing documents from the literature, interview results, and questionnaires answered by respondents via links distributed to lecturers of the Architecture Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, National Institute of Technology Malang. The results show that the six components of the ASSURE model of the learning planning uploaded in SPADA LMS had not been implemented optimally. Therefore, the researcher recommends for the improvement of the Semester Lesson Plan (RPS) based on the ASSURE Model to promote continuous improvements
