The Interactional Styles Used by Male and Female Chairpersons in Petra Christian University Student Executive Board Meetings

This study examines the interactional styles related to the role of chairperson used by two female and two male chairpersons in the SEB-PCU meetings. There are three main theories used: interactional styles, gender, and chairpersons and their roles in a meeting. The method used is qualitative approach focusing on the process and the data. The findings reveal that both feminine and masculine interactional styles were used by the chairpersons. The masculine interactional styles were employed to play the roles of chairpersons. The use of interactional styles between female and male chairpersons differs in its ratio although the same linguistic clue was used for the same device. Here, conciliatory feature was not produced by the male chairpersons whereas referentially oriented feature was produced frequently by chairpersons. Overall, it proves that females use more feminine interactional styles while males use more masculine interactional styles. Thus, gender and power play an important role in meeting

IN VITRO ANTIPLATELET ACTIVITY OF AN ISOFLAVANONE ISOLATED FROM METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF EMBLICA OFFICINALIS FRUITS

Objective: In this study, we aimed to isolate a polyphenolic compound from a polyphenolic-rich fraction from Emblica officinalis fruits and also study its effect on adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and collagen-induced in vitro platelet aggregation. Methods: The polyphenolic-rich fraction was prepared by 80% methanolic extraction. The residue was extracted successively with hexane, benzene, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. Ethyl acetate residue was selected for column chromatography because of its high polyphenolic content. It was subjected to repeated column chromatography of series with different eluents of increasing polarity. A brown amorphous powder was obtained from ethyl acetate: methanol (7:3) fraction. This sample was subjected to UV-visible spectrum, IR spectrum, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and electrospray mass spectrum (ES-MS) studies for its structural elucidation. Results: A compound, 5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy 3'-methoxy isoflavanone was identified from polyphenolic rich ethyl acetate: methanol (7:3) fraction separated from the 80% methanolic extract of Embica officinalis fruits by repeated column chromatography. Yield of the compound was 421.05 mg/kg. This compound exhibited antiplatelet activity well comparable with that of quercetin. Conclusion: The present study proved that the isolated compound 5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy 3'-methoxy isoflavanone exerts a significant inhibitory activity on ADP and collagen-induced in vitro platelet aggregation, which can be considered as an effective remedy for alleviating complications of cardiovascular diseases

Di Jawa Tengah, salah satu lembaga yang memiliki konsen dalam penanganan kasus KDRT adalah LRC KJHAM. Pelayanan bimbingan konseling individu dan support group bagi korban KDRT yang diberikan oleh LRC-KJHAM bersifat integral dan menimbulkan perubahan yang signifikan dari perubahan sikap dan psikologis perempuan korban kekerasan dalam rumah tangga. Melalui bimbingan konseling tersebut para individu (korban) mampu menyadari bahwa dapat mengatasi masalahnya sendiri dan sadar bahwa mereka secara bersama dapat berjuang untuk mengatasi masalah yang mereka alami

Cerebellar gray matter and lobular volumes correlate with core autism symptoms

AbstractNeuroanatomical differences in the cerebellum are among the most consistent findings in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but little is known about the relationship between cerebellar dysfunction and core ASD symptoms. The newly-emerging existence of cerebellar sensorimotor and cognitive subregions provides a new framework for interpreting the functional significance of cerebellar findings in ASD. Here we use two complementary analyses — whole-brain voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and the SUIT cerebellar atlas — to investigate cerebellar regional gray matter (GM) and volumetric lobular measurements in 35 children with ASD and 35 typically-developing (TD) children (mean age 10.4 ± 1.6 years; range 8–13 years). To examine the relationships between cerebellar structure and core ASD symptoms, correlations were calculated between scores on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI) and the VBM and volumetric data. Both VBM and the SUIT analyses revealed reduced GM in ASD children in cerebellar lobule VII (Crus I/II). The degree of regional and lobular gray matter reductions in different cerebellar subregions correlated with the severity of symptoms in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors. Structural differences and behavioral correlations converged on right cerebellar Crus I/II, a region which shows structural and functional connectivity with fronto-parietal and default mode networks. These results emphasize the importance of the location within the cerebellum to the potential functional impact of structural differences in ASD, and suggest that GM differences in cerebellar right Crus I/II are associated with the core ASD profile

Patient\u27s outcome of bladder cancer managed by radical cystectomy with lymphadenectomy at a university hospital

Objective: To study the impact of tumour staging and nodal metastases in predicting 5- year\u27s survival after radical cystectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy for primary bladder cancer. Methods: During the period 1995 to 2005, 58 patients underwent radical cystectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy and urinary diversion at a University hospital. Patients were identified using medical indexing coding system (ICD 9CM) using standard key words. The patient records were analyzed and follow up data updated. Disease specific survival, death or recurrence was taken as end point.Results: Out of 58 patients, 50 (86%) were males and 8 (14%) females with a mean age of 61 +/- 13.1 years (range from 27 to 87 years). Of 58 patients, 11 (23%) were excluded from the study because of in adequate follow up. The mean follow up was 5.7 years (range, 7 months to 11 years). The overall 5 years survival was 55% with disease specific survival being 66%. Patients with pathological stage TO at cystectomy have 87% 5 years disease specific survival compared to 60%, in patients with pT4 (p = 0.705). The 5-year survival for node positive patients was 16%, compared to 60% for node negative patients (p \u3c 0.01). Conclusions: Radical cystectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy is the standard treatment for muscle invasive and high grade T1 cancers, and as salvage for recurrent cancers. Lymphadenectomy has a potential therapeutic benefit. The pathological stage at cystectomy and nodal status are predictors of 5 years survival

Morphological characterization of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) germplasm under rainfed environment

In this study, 11 potato cultivars were assessed based on their genetic variability of different morphological parameters, including emergence percentage (%), date of flowering, plant height (cm), number of leaves per plant, average leaf area, number of flowers per plant, number of stems per plant, and number of fruits per plant. All of these characters showed a high level of variation among all the varieties. Locally developed advanced line SH-19 showed maximum emergence percentage (92.33%). Among other characters, Asterix, Smeengi and SH-19 produced considerable amount of flowers per plant (37.39). Romeo touched the line, indicating three stems per plant and was grouped into a separate group ‘A’. Cultivars Smeengi and Aziza, Leonardo and Avalanche carried 2.67 and 1 stem per plant respectively. Moreover, the 11 cultivars were ranked and grouped into 5 groups (A to E). For number of fruits/plant, means were not very much different from one another. The pyramid of variety Asterix was the highest, indicating that this genotype is efficient in bearing fruits. Variation was observed for tuber yield among all the cultivars and was not significantly high between replications of all varieties. Overall, there was highly significant variation for this character among all the potato cultivars. All the 11 varieties were grouped into seven homogeneous groups (A to G) in which the means are not significantly different from one another. Almost every variety was in a different group. Average yield for all the varieties ranged from 22 to 7 kg. Pyramid height for Desiree was highest, indicating that maximum yield (22 kg) was produced by this variety.Keywords: Germplasm, potato, Solanum tuberosum L.
