Astrophysical parameters of ten poorly studied open star clusters

We present here the fundamental parameters of ten open star clusters, nominated from Kronberger et al. (2006) who presented some new discovered stellar groups on the basis of 2MASS photometry and DSS visual images. Star counts and photometric parameters (radius, membership, distances, color excess, age, luminosity function, mass function, total mass, and the dynamical relaxation time) have been determined for these ten clusters for the first time. In order to calibrate our procedures, the main parameters (distance, age, and color excesses) have been re-estimated for another five clusters, which are studied by Kronberger et al. (2006) as well.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables; accepted in "Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics Journal

Effect of cytokinins and auxins on micropropagation of shoot tip and nodal explants of two cultivars of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam)

    Get PDF
In vitro propagation of two selected cultivars of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Larn), Baladi White (BW) and Nigerian (N) were investigated using shoot tips and nodal explants during the period March, 1997 to July, 1998. Shoot regeneration from both cultivars was best on Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium without plant growth regulators. Morphogenetic response varied with the different types of explants and genotypes of sweet potato. Shoot morphogenesis from the sweet potato cv. BW was better than that from cv. N. Shoot tip explant was better for in vitro propagation of sweet potato cv. N. , while nodal cuttings were. better for cv. BW. The shoot regeneration rate induced on benzylaminopurine (BAP) was higher than that on kinetin. BAP in combination with naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) resulted in shoot and root morphogenesis from nodal explants of the sweet potato cv. N. The best shoot length was found on Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) supplemented with NAA at both 0.25 and 1.0 mg/l combined with 0.5 mg/l BAP

Polyorchidism is a rare congenital anomaly frequently associated with maldescent testis, hernia, and torsion. Reports in the literature show an increased risk of testicular malignancy in the presence of polyorchidism. This entity has characteristic sonographic features and the diagnosis is often made on the basis of sonography. A conservative approach is the treatment of choice in uncomplicated cases. We report a male of 26-years old with 2 testicles in right side diagnosed by ultrasound. A brief history and review of the literature is also presente

Machine learning-based anomaly detection in NFV: a comprehensive survey

    Get PDF
Network function virtualization (NFV) is a rapidly growing technology that enables the virtualization of traditional network hardware components, offering benefits such as cost reduction, increased flexibility, and efficient resource utilization. Moreover, NFV plays a crucial role in sensor and IoT networks by ensuring optimal resource usage and effective network management. However, adopting NFV in these networks also brings security challenges that must promptly and effectively address. This survey paper focuses on exploring the security challenges associated with NFV. It proposes the utilization of anomaly detection techniques as a means to mitigate the potential risks of cyber attacks. The research evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of various machine learningbased algorithms for detecting network-based anomalies in NFV networks. By providing insights into the most efficient algorithm for timely and effective anomaly detection in NFV networks, this study aims to assist network administrators and security professionals in enhancing the security of NFV deployments, thus safeguarding the integrity and performance of sensors and IoT systems

JQPro : Join query processing in a distributed system for big RDF data using the hash-merge join technique

    Get PDF
In the last decade, the volume of semantic data has increased exponentially, with the number of Resource Description Framework (RDF) datasets exceeding trillions of triples in RDF repositories. Hence, the size of RDF datasets continues to grow. However, with the increasing number of RDF triples, complex multiple RDF queries are becoming a significant demand. Sometimes, such complex queries produce many common sub-expressions in a single query or over multiple queries running as a batch. In addition, it is also difficult to minimize the number of RDF queries and processing time for a large amount of related data in a typical distributed environment encounter. To address this complication, we introduce a join query processing model for big RDF data, called JQPro. By adopting a MapReduce framework in JQPro, we developed three new algorithms, which are hash-join, sort-merge, and enhanced MapReduce-join for join query processing of RDF data. Based on an experiment conducted, the result showed that the JQPro model outperformed the two popular algorithms, gStore and RDF-3X, with respect to the average execution time. Furthermore, the JQPro model was also tested against RDF-3X, RDFox, and PARJs using the LUBM benchmark. The result showed that the JQPro model had better performance in comparison with the other models. In conclusion, the findings showed that JQPro achieved improved performance with 87.77% in terms of execution time. Hence, in comparison with the selected models, JQPro performs better

Parametric Analysis on Boil-Off Gas Rate inside Liquefied Natural Gas Storage Tank

    Get PDF
Research into the environmental effect of greenhouse emissions is now intense. One of the sources contributing to the effect is boil-off gas (BOG) flaring into the atmosphere. BOG formation is caused by heat leakage from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank. Heat leakages are determined by the effectiveness of heat thermal transmittance of the structural tank and ambient condition. The objective of this present study is therefore to determine the relationship between heat thermal transmittance and ambient condition, and the boil-off rate for a specific 40,447m3 LNG tank size corresponding to a 160,000m3 LNG ship size. General estimations of the amounts of BOG generated are useful in determining the amount of BOG that will need to flare in order to control the greenhouse effect and the amount of pollution entering the environment. This study analyzes both the steady and unsteady behavior of heat transfer mechanisms using ANSYS Fluent software. Results show that dynamic transient simulation only takes effect on the first five days of a voyage. There is then a linear relationship between the investigated parameters of the boil-off rate of LNG. These linear relations are of the utmost use for LNG tank manufacturer and researchers requiring a preliminary view in order to determine LNG tank specification. The result obtained is also validated by studies by previous researcher

Post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) is a chronic, stigmatizing skin condition occurring frequently after apparent clinical cure from visceral leishmaniasis. Given an urgent need for new treatments, we conducted a phase IIa safety and immunogenicity trial of ChAd63-KH vaccine in Sudanese patients with persistent PKDL. LEISH2a (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02894008) was an open-label three-phase clinical trial involving sixteen adult and eight adolescent patients with persistent PKDL (median duration, 30 months; range, 6-180 months). Patients received a single intramuscular vaccination of 1 Ă— 1010 viral particles (v.p.; adults only) or 7.5 Ă— 1010 v.p. (adults and adolescents), with primary (safety) and secondary (clinical response and immunogenicity) endpoints evaluated over 42-120 days follow-up. AmBisome was provided to patients with significant remaining disease at their last visit. ChAd63-KH vaccine showed minimal adverse reactions in PKDL patients and induced potent innate and cell-mediated immune responses measured by whole-blood transcriptomics and ELISpot. 7/23 patients (30.4%) monitored to study completion showed >90% clinical improvement, and 5/23 (21.7%) showed partial improvement. A logistic regression model applied to blood transcriptomic data identified immune modules predictive of patients with >90% clinical improvement. A randomized controlled trial to determine whether these clinical responses were vaccine-related and whether ChAd63-KH vaccine has clinical utility is underway
