The impact of video streaming service’s brand image on consumer loyalty : does word-of-mouth make a difference?
Video streaming services have grown substantially in the past few years, due to their
convenience, low cost and variety of original movies and tv shows. Consumers have switched
from traditional broadcasting TV to streaming service platforms, which has led to the entrance
of several players in the industry.
The purpose of this research is to investigate how the video streaming service’s brand image,
with a particular focus on Netflix, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video, impact customer
loyalty, while also studying the moderation effect of wordofmouth. Furthermore, the
mediation effect of expectations and perceived quality were also analyzed.
In order to study the proposed model, six different stimuli were created based on online reviews.
The stimuli presented either negative wordofmouth or positive wordofmouth, and were then
used on an online survey, randomly assigned to each participant.
Results show that the video streaming service’s brand image positively impacts customer
loyalty. It was also concluded that both expectations and perceived quality media te the
relationship between brand image and customer loyalty. Moreover, it was also proven that
wordofmouth also impacts this relationship.
Escherichia coli is a bacteria part of the numerous family known as Enterobacteriaceae. It is normally associated with urinary tract infections, newborn meningitis intestinal infections and septicemia.
E. coli is also one of the most prolific bacteria both in men’s and animal’s intestinal flora, which is why it is frequently used as an indicator of the selective pressure caused by the use of antibiotics in men and animals, especially when it comes to the production of animals for human consume. Data gathered around Europe shows a high occurrence of E.coli commensal strains present in men and animals which are resistant to various antibiotics.
E.coli isolated belonging to phylogenetic groups A and B1 are traditionally considered to be commensal. Nevertheless, they have increasingly been associated with extra-intestinal infections, something common among the more virulent groups B2 and D.
The main objective of this study is to characterize the population structure of E.coli isolated obtained from Portuguese pig farms, evaluate their resistance to some of the most clinically used antibiotics and to relate those resistances with the virulence showed by the phylogenic groups, as there are very few studies on the matter. This study also intends to define strategies or enhance those already in place in order to help prevent the transmission of resistances to men, may it be through the food chain or the environment, ultimately decreasing public health’s risks.
With that aim in mind, 155 bacteria isolated were analyzed using samples of animals and the environment (water, air, rations, among others) belonging to an intensive production Portuguese pig farm and another one of extensive production. After extracting bacterial DNA from the isolated, it was possible to identify the presence of E. coli by PCR. For the identified E. coli isolated it was done a PCR multiplex to determine the phylogenic group, including the analysis of every single PCR product by the way of agar gel electrophoresis. It was also conducted the susceptibility analysis of the E. coli isolated through the disc diffusion method (Kirby – Bauer method), with different classes antibiotics being tested. Of the 155 bacterial isolated analyzed, 103 isolated (66%) were identified as being E. coli. Additionally, it was also observed that the isolated originating from the two studied pig farms were frequently more resistant to the spectinomycin antibiotic (100%), neomycin (95%) and streptomycin (85%).
In general, higher percentages of resistance were recorded in the intensive production pig farm. The phylogenetic group A is predominant in the total number of isolated considered to be resistant. Although in a lesser quantity, phylogenetic group B appears associated to E. coli. isolated resistant to almost all antibiotics tested.
Portuguese pig farms seem to be potential virulent bacteria repositories with resistance to human clinic antibiotics and possibly also repositories of antibiotic resistant genes with high capacity of dispersion.
The theme of antimicrobial resistance is a matter of huge importance but still an area with a lot to discover, mainly in the role played by animals in the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance. It is necessary to conduct more studies in order to make it possible to implement efficient measures in the control of antibiotic resistances
How does sustainability affect consumer choices in the fashion industry?
The fashion industry being one of the most polluting industries in the world, only means
that it is an industry with an immense potential for change. Consumers are central and are
closely intertwined with how companies act. This research reflects consumer perspectives
and practices towards the topic of sustainability implemented in the fashion industry. The
relevance of sustainability in the fashion industry and the key role of consumers in its
implementation is undeniable and confirmed by consumers in a representation of general
awareness and concern, despite not always being translated into actual practices. The
qualitative research methodology followed by a set of interviews conducted to
consumers, revealed that the great majority is implementing a variety of practices when
making their buying choices towards fashion items. Barriers such as lack of education,
information, knowledge and transparency were identified, and this aspect where shared
by consumers as a lacking motivation for them to adopt more conscious decisions.
Companies should educate consumers in a general perspective and focus on the group of
consumers that are not implementing sustainability in the fashion industry in their buying
choices, as they represent the potential for the future.
Process of character design for animated films: an analysis of elderly characters
Carl é protagonista em Up (Docter, 2009)
This dissertation explores the process of character design for an
animated film, having as references the animated films created by
Disney and Pixar. In order to focus on the concepts obtained about
the process of character design it was chosen a specific group of
characters to be analysed, elderly characters. It was sought to
understand how the elderly are seen by contemporary society and
several academic authors refer that it is one of the age groups that
suffers most ageism. In parallel to this research, several elderly
characters from Disney and Pixar animated films were selected, in
order to understand how they are visually represented. In the total of
86 films produced by Disney and Pixar, only 1 film had an elderly
as the main character, Carl Fredericksen, 78 years old. Carl is the
protagonist in Up (Docter, 2009) and because he is such a peculiar
and unique character, he was analysed as a case study.
The methodology used was based on academic literature and
documentaries about character design, the animation industry, and
about seniors. Several Disney and Pixar films were viewed and stills
collected to exemplify the contents explained in the dissertation.
This dissertation seeks to explain the process character design for an
animated film to anyone interested in the area. It can also guide in
the creation of a senior character.
It is important to create unique and appealing characters that stay in
the viewers’ memory, and the creation of more senior characters in
animated films can help to combat stereotypes towards the elderly
Success evaluation of Assisted Reproductive Technology in couples with chromosomal abnormalities
Purpose: Infertility is estimated to affect 15% of couples, and chromosome abnormalities play an important role in its etiology. The main objective of this work is to access the reproductive success of ART in infertile couples with chromosomal abnormalities comparing to a control group with normal karyotype. Methods: A retrospective analysis of seven years of all karyotypes performed in couples with infertility was done. Data regarding type of infertility, couples' ages, ART performed and their reproductive success were obtained from medical records. Adjusted Odds Ratio (OR) were used to estimate magnitude of association between the success and the different exposures/groups.Results: We found a prevalence of 7.83% (234/2989) of chromosome abnormalities in our population. Chromosomal anomalies were found in 83 men (35.02%) and 154 women (64.98%), with low-grade mosaicism being the most prevalent (50.63%), followed by autosomal translocations (17.30%) and sex chromosomes abnormalities (13.92%). There was a non-significant lower success rate in the cases, OR=0.899, p=0.530), with IVF treatment providing the higher success rate. Secondary infertility was significant for lower probability of success (OR=0.643, p<0.001). In general female carriers of chromosome anomalies had a higher success rate, although not significant. Conclusion: Although the differences regarding success rate between groups were not found statistically significant, we still advocate that cytogenetic analysis should be performed routinely in all infertile couples namely before ART. This might help deciding the best treatment options including Preimplantation Genetic Test for aneuploidies or structural rearrangements and minimize the risk of transmission of anomalies to the offspring
The percepetion of unlisted companies on gender quotas law
Mestrado Bolonha em FinançasThe lack of women representation on boards has recently become an important issue that needs to be addressed due to the benefits generated by gender diversity in boards’ structure.
As a result of increased interest in this topic, academic investigations have arisen and, more recently, increasing regulatory pressure has emerged on the percentage of women in top management positions. In Portugal, in 2017, Law nº 62/2017, known as the “Gender Quotas Law”, was released. It aimed a more balanced representation of women and men in management bodies by imposing a minimum of 33% of the least represented gender in management bodies.
At this time, in Portugal, this Law is only applied to companies listed on the stock exchange and, as this Law can most likely be adopted also for companies not listed on the stock exchange, this study purposes to understand the point of view of Portuguese non-listed companies, in this case specific of Portuguese Public Limited Companies, about the implementation of this Law, by inquiring them on different aspects inherent to Gender Quotas Law.
The results obtained revel that Portuguese Public Limited Companies agree on the conception of measures to promote gender equality, but not in the form of law. They also believe that women are competent enough to assume top management positions and that Gender Quotas Law are important for risk assessment in the decision-making process, for the company's overall performance, for financial reporting, for the company's growth and expansion and for the company's sustainability long-term.
It is essential to eliminate the injustices and gender inequalities that still exist in the labor market in Portugal and this Law is another step in that direction, hence it is important to understand the companies' point of view on this issue.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
