IaaS-cloud security enhancement: an intelligent attribute-based access control model and implementation

    Get PDF
The cloud computing paradigm introduces an efficient utilisation of huge computing resources by multiple users with minimal expense and deployment effort compared to traditional computing facilities. Although cloud computing has incredible benefits, some governments and enterprises remain hesitant to transfer their computing technology to the cloud as a consequence of the associated security challenges. Security is, therefore, a significant factor in cloud computing adoption. Cloud services consist of three layers: Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Cloud computing services are accessed through network connections and utilised by multi-users who can share the resources through virtualisation technology. Accordingly, an efficient access control system is crucial to prevent unauthorised access. This thesis mainly investigates the IaaS security enhancement from an access control point of view. Get PDF
Home surveillance system assumes an essential part in this present day living style to help recognizing illegal activities. In this proposed paper, an intelligent image capturing alarm system to protect locker was developed. Raspberry Pi 2 is used as the main controller (server). At the point when any conceivable intrusion is identified, a webcam installed to Raspberry Pi 2 will capture the picture of the intruder. In the meantime, the spotlight or light of the house which represented by an LED will be turned "ON" alongside an alarm sound from a buzzer which is fixed as an output. Taking everything into account, this improvement offers reasonable and easy to use surveillance alarm system

Crustal and upper mantle structure of the interior Arabian platform

The crustal and upper-mantle velocity structure of the interior Arabian platform is derived using the spectral analysis of long-period P-wave amplitude ratios. The ratio of the vertical to the horizontal component is utilized to obtain crustal transfer functions using the Thomson- Haskell matrix formulation for horizontally layered crustal models.20 earthquakes recorded at the long-period station RYD between azimuths N20'W and ti 150-E were selected for the analysis based on the following criteria: focal depths in the range 5 to 215 km, body-wave magnitudes greater than 5.0, and epicentral distances in the range 7' to 97'. V A careful quality check of the data left us with six events, out of 29, that had short epicentral distances (<20~) to be analysed. The selection criterion for the final model in the forward modelling process was based on the correlation coefficient between observed and theoretical transfer function. The model suggested that the crust consists of five distinct lavers. The upper crustal laver has a P-wave velocity of about 5.6 km s-t and is about 3 km thick. The second layer has a velocity of about 6.3 km s-i and is 10 km thick. The third laver has a velocity of 6.6km s-t and is 8 km thick. The fourth layer has a velocity of 6.9 km s-t and is 15 km thick. The lower layer has a velocity of about 7.6 km s-' and is 10 km thick. For the Mohorovicic discontinuity, a velocity of 8.3 km s-i for the upper mantle and 46 km depth are indicated

On induced-modifications in optical properties of Makrofol® DE 1-1 SSNTD by UVB and UVA

The induced modifications in the optical properties of Makrofol® DE 1-1 solid state nuclear track detectors upon irradiation by UVB (302 nm) and UVA (365 nm) were characterized and compared. Makrofol® DE 1-1 detectors were irradiated separately for different durations with UVB (302 nm) and UVA (365 nm). The measurements revealed insignificant changes were observed at all in UVA (365 nm)-irradiated Makrofol® DE 1-1, irrespective the irradiation time (dose). All UVB (302 nm)-irradiated Makrofol® DE 1-1 detectors show a substantial red shift in UV–Vis spectra and a continuous increase in absorbance as the exposure time (Dose) to UVB increases. UVC-irradiated Makrofol® DE 1-1 exhibits absorption bands at 315 ± 5 nm in UV–visible spectra. The absorption increases exponential with the increasing the UVB irradiation time gets saturated started from 75 h to 400 h. In the visible light range no significant changes were observed in Makrofol® DE 1-1 detector irrespective the exposure time to UVB of 302 nm. It is found that the direct band gap is higher than indirect band gap and both decrease with the increase in the irradiation time of UVB of 302 nm. The obtained results of the Urbach energy and carbon atoms per cluster indicate that both increase with the increase in the irradiation time to UVB (302 nm). The induced modification in the optical properties of Makrofol® DE 1-1 can be used in UVB dosimetry, meanwhile it is not applicable for UVA of 365 nm

Understanding the shrinkage of optical absorption edges of nanostructured Cd-Zn sulphide films for photothermal applications

In this article Cd-Zn sulphide thin films deposited onto soda lime glass substrates via chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique were investigated for photovoltaic applications. The synthesized films were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopic methodologies. A higher degree of crystallinity of the films was attained with the increase of film thicknesses. SEM micrographs exhibited a partial crystalline structure with a particulate appearance surrounded by the amorphous grain boundaries. The optical absorbance and absorption coefficient of the films were also enhanced significantly with the increase in film thicknesses. Optical band-gap analysis indicated a monotonic decrease in direct and indirect band-gaps with the increase of thicknesses of the films. The presence of direct and indirect transitional energies due to the exponential falling edges of the absorption curves may either be due to the lack of long-range order or to the existence of defects in the films. The declination of the optical absorption edges was also confirmed via Urbach energy and steepness parameters studies

Yield performance of Ficus carica as affected by different rate of chicken manure

The objectives of this study are to study the development of the fruit of Ficus carica as affected by the different rates of chicken manure. The experiment was conducted at Glasshouse and Nursery Complex (GNC), IIUM Kuantan Campus. The experiment was arranged in a randomized, completely block design (RCBD). Four rates of chicken manure used were 0 g (T1), 150 g (T2), 300 g (T3) and 450 g (T4) respectively. Based on this study, it showed that there was a significant difference between treatments on all parameters collected. From all parameters, thirteen parameters showed the highest value from treatment consist of 450 g of chicken manure (T4). Meanwhile, no fruit produces from treatment with no fertilizers applied (T1). This indicates that higher performance was produced from the greater amount of chicken manure used. So, it was recommended to increase chicken manure rate on fig to increase yields productivity

Heat Exchanger Analysis to Reduce Hexane Loss in Palm Kernel Oil Extraction Plant

    No full text
The aim of this study is to reduce hexane loss during the process of extraction oil from palm kernel that would reduce the production cost and increase the net profit. The study is carried out in a leading palm oil factory in Malaysia. At present solvent extraction plant are facing problem of high hexane loss, average 9.5 litre/metric ton (ltr/mt). To reduce the hexane loss, critical investigations were performed to improve the heat transfer between hexane vapour and water condenser shell and tube. Preliminary investigations reveal that 21% of the hexane is being loss during plant operation. The present redesigned heat exchanger is successfully reduced the hexane loss from 9.5% ltr/mt to 7.5ltr/mt per day of the same operating plant which saves about RM904, 800 per annum for the industry. Ultimately, the outcome of this study gives a great economic impact to the industry by reducing the production cost leading into the reduction of oil price for the nation. In addition it is found that not only the monetary impact is benefited, but, the release of hexane to atmospheric also reduced to ensure safe healthy life of people surrounding the plant
