Neste breve artigo, são defendidas duas ideias principais: 1) entre os valores e as virtudes, a experiência de preferência é fundamental e é passível de aperfeiçoamento; 2) uma autêntica cidadania, global e inclusiva, requer a formação de pessoas, sujeitos de preferências bem fundadas e eticamente responsáveis. / In this brief article, are advocated two main ideas: 1) between the values and virtues, the experience of preference is fundamental and is capable of improvement, 2) an authentic citizenship, global and inclusive, requires the formation of persons, whose preferences must be well-founded and ethically responsible

Fish assemblages in the seagrass beds at Inhaca Island (Mozambique): cold season

Bol. Mus. Mun. Funchal, Sup. N.º 6: 111-125, 2001The fish communities in the seagrass beds at Inhaca Island (Mozambique) were sampled in three stations during the cold season (July-August 1993). On the whole, 66 species of fishes belonging to 34 families were collected by trawling. Cluster and factorial correspondence analyses showed that the fish community structure was different at the three stations. These structural differences were attributed to the type of seagrass association and to the proximity of mangrove and coral reef areas. Differences between day and night samples attest to the occurrence of marked circadian changes between nocturnal and diurnal components of this seagrass fish community. Carnivorous fishes were dominant both in number and biomass while herbivorous and omnivorous species were less represented in these assemblages.As comunidades ictiológicas dos fundos de fanerogâmicas da Ilha da Inhaca (Moçambique) foram amostradas em 3 estações durante a estação a estação fria (Julha-Agosto de 1993). No total, 66 espécies de peixes pertencendo a 34 famílias foram colhidas com arrasto. A análise dos dados mostrou que as comunidades ictiológicas tinham estruturas diferentes nas 3 estações. Estas diferenças foram atribuídas ao tipo de associação vegetal e à distância às áreas de coral e de mangal. Diferenças entre as amostragens diurnas e nocturnas atectam a ocorrência de ciclos circadianos marcados e a sua influência nas comunidades. Espécies carnívoras foram dominantes, quer em número, quer em biomassa, em relação às herbívoras e omnívoras

Presenting and disclosing cash flows evidence from Portuguese listed companies

Presentation and disclosure of cash flows is reaching increasingly importance, stimulating discussions between standard-setters, users, preparers and auditors. Bearing this in mind, this study aims at analyzing what and how Portuguese listed companies reported in the Statement of Cash Flows and related notes in annual reporting. The study describes, on one hand, if and how those companies comply with IAS 7 for presentation and disclosure of cash flows and, on the other hand, the impact of companies’ disclosure choices. Results provide an overview of cash flows reporting, evidencing compliance, consistency and significant impact of accounting choices, complementing existent Portuguese Literature

Rasgos de vida das especies demersais en Augas Ibericas Atlanticas

Understanding the underlying dynamics of a species is essential for the magagment and assess- ment of marine resources. Thus, in this study, we analyze the variability of size at first maturity (i.e., length at which the 50 % of individuals reach sexual maturity, L 50 ) and the relative condition factor (i.e., an indicator of the body condition, K n ), of the European hake in the Atlantic Iberian waters for the study period 1980-2019. In addition, the interannual variability of these life traits is assessed with respect to environmental variables, (i.e., Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, the North Atlantic Oscillation and Sea Surface Temperature), and biological variables (i.e., individuals bio- mass,spawning biomass and size) using generalized additive models. The datasets of the European hake were provided by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography of Vigo while the environmental variables were extracted from freely accessible databases.The results of this study show, on the one hand, a temporal trend to decrease in the size at first maturity of European hake and, on the other hand, a variation of the relative condition factor depends mainly on the size.These results could be the tkey to understand the European hake stock status in Iberian Atlantic Waters
