Wasps are better plant-guards than ants in the extrafloral nectaried shrub Ouratea spectabilis (Ochnaceae)

In the Cerrado, many plants are patrolled by ants, but in some cases, predatory wasps may also play an important role in herbivore deterrence. Here we examined the effects of the wasp Brachygastra lecheguana and the ant Pseudomyrmex gracilis on the predation of endophytic weevils which develop in the flower buds of Ouratea spectabilis trees. We (i) compared frequency and the abundance of weevils preyed upon by wasps; (ii) possible synergic effects of ants and wasps in decreasing weevil population; and (iii) whether wasps preyed upon weevils in more visible, easy-access inflorescences, i. e. those located in edges of canopy. In contrast to ants, wasps were observed significantly more frequently on O. spectabilis and were responsible for 88% of the weevil larvae preyed upon. Plants visited by both B. lecheguana and P. gracilis had a substantial reduction in weevil larvae compared to plants visited by B. lecheguana only. This indicates a complementary effect of predators with distinct skills in deterring the weevil population; however, ants were responsible for only a small portion of weevils preyed upon. Weevil larvae occurred evenly in both visible and hidden inflorescences; nonetheless, wasps predominantly visited inflorescences located on the edges of the canopy. In this ecological system, predatory wasps played a substantial part in weevil deterrence and can be considered a better plant-guard than ants

Influence of Camponotus blandus (Formicinae) and flower buds on the occurrence of Parrhasius polibetes (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) in Banisteriopsis malifolia (Malpighiaceae)

In the Brazilian savanna, myrmecophilous lycaenids are often found in many shrubs feeding on plant reproductive structures while are tended by ants, but only recently the role of both ants and food on the occurrence of lycaenids have received attention. In this study, we investigated the influence of Camponotus blandus (Formicinae) and flower bud abundance on the occurrence of Parrhasius polibetes, a florivorous lycaenid species that occurs in Banisteriopsis malifolia(Malpighiaceae). We also examined to what extent larval florivory was deleterious to plant reproductive outputs. Ant-exclusion experiments revealed that most P. polibetes individuals were found on branches with free C. blandus access. Nonetheless, the occurrence of larvae was not related to the abundance of these ants and flower buds, indicating that the presence, rather than the abundance of mutualistic ants and food, influenced the occurrence of P. polibetes. Larvae were attended by C. blandus, which antennated frequently the dorsal nectary organ of larvae. Larval florivory was not deleterious to the plant. Banisteriopsis malifolia produces thousands of buds simultaneously and larvae feed only on a small portion of flower buds. The occurrence of P. polibetes inB. malifolia is advantageous for the larvae, since this plant supports mutualistic ants and plenty of food resources

Análise da viabilidade técnica de concepções alternativas de embarcação leve para apoio à manutenção e inspeção submarina

A crescente exploração de petróleo em alto mar no litoral brasileiro devido às grandes descobertas na região chamada pré-sal, tem trazido novas necessidades e desafios para indústria naval. Tendo em vista o aumento na instalação de novas unidades marítimas e na perfuração de poços nessas regiões, atividades que requerem constante monitoramento, será analisada neste trabalho, a viabilidade técnica de duas propostas de embarcação leve para apoio às operações de manutenção e inspeção submarina utilizando ROVs (Remote Operated Vehicles). Ambas as concepções, monocasco e catamarã, deverão ter cerca de trinta metros de comprimento, navegar a uma velocidade de serviço de 16 nós além de possuir os equipamentos essenciais para a sua operação, como: ROVs e sistema de lançamento, moonpool, guindaste, geradores, sistema de fundeio, motores e sistema de propulsão e posicionamento

Entre o quê e o quê o sujeito é dividido?

The notion of subject, due to its clinical and epistemological imprtance, undeniably played a major role in the work and teaching of psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. Still, despite many theoretical developments derived from this notion, many discussions and confusion occur in its study and treatment. Thus, the following work intends to present a series of reflections and directions that allow the circumscription and specially the outlining of the conceptual elements involved in this broad elaboration. On the other hand, more synthetically, if this work is successful, the reader will have, after its conclusion, an even more fertile notion of such a multiple subject.La noción de sujeto, por sus embarazos clínicos y epistemológicos, ocupó indiscutiblemente un lugar central en la obra y enseñanza del psicoanalista Jacques Lacan. Y, a pesar de muchos desarrollos teóricos derivados de esta noción, se producen muchas discusiones y confusiones en su estudio y tratamiento. Así, el presente trabajo pretende presentar una serie de reflexiones y orientaciones que permitan circunscribir e incluso delinear los elementos conceptuales involucrados en esta amplia trama. O, más sintéticamente, si este trabajo tiene éxito, el lector tendrá, después de leerlo, una noción aún más fecunda de un tema tan múltiple.La notion de sujet, de par ses grossesses cliniques et épistémologiques, occupe incontestablement une place centrale dans l'œuvre et l'enseignement du psychanalyste Jacques Lacan. Qual é a relação da psicanálise com a verdade? Com o objetivo de oferecer uma perspectiva sobre esta questão tivemos a pretensão de trabalhar com a noção de verdade à luz da ideia lacaniana de discurso do analista, proposta no seminário 17 e que congrega uma série de outras noções. Trata-se de um trabalho em duas partes, uma que diz respeito ao conceito de verdade em relação ao saber e outra subsequente que trabalha a dimensão de como a verdade pela concepção lacaniana promove efeitos no laço social, mais precisamente no que diz respeito ao discurso capitalista. Para tanto, tratamos da separação entre saber e conhecimento, na aproximação da psicanálise com a sofística e também na ideia lacaniana de latusa

Motivação docente na pós-graduação stricto sensu: uma análise a partir da teoria da autodeterminação

The objective of this research was to analyze the motivational factors that lead accounting sciences professors to teach on stricto sensu postgraduate courses, based on self-determination theory. Research on motivation in education in the area of accounting sciences mostly concerns student motivation. Thus, there are few studies related to teacher motivation, especially in the area of accounting sciences and in stricto sensu postgraduate programs. Teacher motivation is directly linked to the teaching-learning process and student motivation, so it is important to identify what motivates these teachers and, given this, to act in a way that the motivation, or lack of it, will not interfere with the quality of teaching. The importance of teachers in the quality of education is indisputable and inevitably relates to the motivation to remain in the teaching career, taking both personal and professional aspects into account. The Work Tasks Motivation Scale for Teachers was applied and answered by 108 professors from the 33 stricto sensu postgraduate programs in the area of accounting sciences. The data were analyzed in an aggregated way, using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney and chi-squared tests, with the purpose of assessing the relationship between levels of motivation and age group, time teaching, and time teaching in the stricto sensu postgraduate course. Most of the professors analyzed are extrinsically motivated via identified regulation; however this is less related to access to financial resources and more linked to the prestige that teaching on the stricto sensu postgraduate course brings. Also, the overall mean of the dimensions of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation was shown to be higher for teachers of the female gender and who work in private institutions.Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar os fatores motivacionais que levam os docentes da área de ciências contábeis a atuarem na pós-graduação stricto sensu, tendo como base a teoria da autodeterminação. Pesquisas sobre motivação na educação na área de ciências contábeis estão, na maioria das vezes, ligadas à motivação discente. Assim, são poucos os estudos relacionados à motivação docente, sobretudo na área de ciências contábeis e nos programas de pós-graduação stricto sensu. A motivação docente está diretamente ligada ao processo de ensino-aprendizagem e à motivação discente, assim, é importante identi car o que motiva a atuação desses docentes e, diante disso, atuar de forma que a motivação, ou a falta dela, não venha a interferir na qualidade do ensino. A importância dos professores na qualidade da educação é indiscutível e, inevitavelmente, remete à motivação para permanecerem na carreira docente, levando em consideração tanto aspectos pessoais quanto pro ssionais. Aplicou-se o instrumento e Work Tasks Motivation Scale for Teachers, respondido por 108 professores dos 33 programas de pós-graduação stricto sensu da área de ciências contábeis. Os dados foram analisados de forma agregada, por meio de estatísticas descritivas e testes Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney e qui-quadrado, com intuito de avaliar a relação entre os níveis de motivação e a faixa etária, o tempo de atuação na docência e o tempo de atuação na pós-graduação stricto sensu. A maior parte dos docentes analisados é motivada extrinsecamente por meio da regulação identi cada, no entanto, está relacionada menos ao acesso a recursos nanceiros e mais ao prestígio que a atuação na pós-graduação stricto sensu traz. Também, a média geral das dimensões de motivação intrínseca e extrínseca se mostrou maior para as docentes do gênero feminino e que atuam em instituições privadas

Características das relações interpessoais existentes entre orientadores e orientandos dos cursos de pós-graduação stricto sensu em Ciências Contábeis

This study aimed to identify the characteristics of the interpersonal relationships existing between supervisors and students in stricto sensu postgraduate courses in Accounting in Brazil, in the perception of students. The relevance of the research is based, mainly, on the importance of the relationship built between advisors and students during the master's or doctoral degree. The characteristics of this relationship can be decisive for the quality of the dissertation or thesis, as well as for the individual's professional training. The sample consisted of 309 stricto sensu graduate students in the accounting area, 65% of which correspond to academic master's students, 31.72% to academic doctorate students and 2.91% to professional master's students. Students' perceptions about the mentoring relationship were captured using the Questionnaire on Supervisor-doctoral Student Interaction adapted by Mainhard, Rijst, Tartwijk and Wubbel (2009), whose Cronbach's Alpha was 0.9424. From the descriptive analysis of the answers, it was found that the students, when thinking about and dealing with the mentoring relationship, prioritize aspects related to the figure of the mentor as a person and little detail about the characteristics of the guidance process and work development. This finding reiterates the conclusion that students indirectly choose their advisors and analyze them, adopting as a criterion the personality traits as more relevant to the detriment of technical training.RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar as características das relações interpessoais existentes entre orientadores e orientandos dos cursos de pós-graduação stricto sensu em Ciências Contábeis no Brasil, na percepção dos discentes. A relevância da pesquisa respalda-se, principalmente, na importância do vínculo construído entre orientadores e orientandos durante o mestrado ou doutorado. As características dessa relação podem ser determinantes para a qualidade da dissertação ou tese, bem como para a formação profissional do indivíduo. A amostra foi composta por 309 discentes de pós-graduação stricto sensu da área contábil, sendo que 65% correspondem a alunos de mestrado acadêmico, 31,72% a alunos de doutorado acadêmico e 2,91% a alunos de mestrado profissional. As percepções dos alunos sobre a relação de orientação foram capturadas por meio do Questionnaire on Supervisor–doctoral Student Interaction (QSDI na literatura internacional) adaptado por Mainhard, Rijst, Tartwijk e Wubbel (2009), cujo Alpha de Cronbach foi de 0,9424. A partir da análise descritiva das respostas, constatou-se que os alunos, ao pensarem e tratarem da relação de orientação, priorizam aspectos relacionados à figura do orientador como pessoa e pouco detalharam sobre as características do processo de orientação e desenvolvimento do trabalho. Esse achado reitera a conclusão de que os alunos indiretamente escolhem seus orientadores e os analisam adotando como critério os traços de personalidade como mais relevantes em detrimento da formação técnica
