Situational-Context: A Unified View of Everything Involved at a Particular Situation
As the interest in the Web of Things increases, specially for the general population, the barriers to entry for the use of these technologies should decrease. Current applications can be developed to adapt their behaviour to predefined conditions and users preferences, facilitating their use. In the future,Web of Things software should be able to automatically adjust its behaviour to non-predefined preferences or context of its users. In this vision paper we define the Situational-Context as the combination of the virtual profiles of the entities (things or people) that concur at a particular place and time. The computation of the Situational-Context allow us to predict the expected system behaviour and the required interaction between devices to meet the entities’ goals, achieving a better adjustment of the system to variable contexts.
Coordinating heterogeneous IoT devices by means of the centralized vision of the SDN controller
The IoT (Internet of Things) has become a reality during recent years. The desire of having everything connected to the Internet results in clearly identified benefits that will impact on socio economic development. However, the exponential growth in the number of IoT devices and their heterogeneity open new challenges that must be carefully studied. Coordination among devices to adapt them to their users' context usually requires high volumes of data to be exchanged with the cloud. In order to reduce unnecessary communications and network overhead, this paper proposes a novel network architecture based on the Software-Defined Networking paradigm that allows IoT devices coordinate and adapt them within the scope of a particular context.Universidad de Málaga. Experimental investigation of a circulating fluidized bed reactor to capture CO2 with CaO
[EN] Calcium looping processes for capturing CO2 from large emissions sources are based on
the use of CaO particles as sorbent in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactors. A
continuous flow of CaO from an oxyfired calciner is fed into the carbonator and a
certain inventory of active CaO is expected to capture the CO2 in the flue gas. The
circulation rate and the inventory of CaO determine the CO2 capture efficiency. Other
parameters such as the average carrying capacity of the CaO circulating particles, the
temperature and the gas velocity must be taken into account. To investigate the effect of
these variables on CO2 capture efficiency we employed a 6.5 m height CFB carbonator
connected to a twin CFB calciner. Many stationary operating states were achieved using
different operating conditions. The trends of CO2 capture efficiency measured are
compared with those from a simple reactor model. This information may contribute to
the future scaling up of the technology. The work was possible thanks to a contract with the companies Endesa and Hunosa and
to the CaOling project funded by the European Commission FP7. N Rodríguez

Identification of therapeutic targets in ovarian cancer through active tyrosine kinase profiling
This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. The activation status of a set of pro-oncogenic tyrosine kinases in ovarian cancer patient samples was analyzed to define potential therapeutic targets. Frequent activation of HER family receptor tyrosine kinases, especially HER2, was observed. Studies in ovarian cancer cell lines confirmed the activation of HER2. Moreover, knockdown of HER2 caused a strong inhibition of their proliferation. Analyses of the action of agents that target HER2 indicated that the antibody drug conjugate trastuzumab-emtansine (T-DM1) caused a substantial antitumoral effect in vivo and in vitro, and potentiated the action of drugs used in the therapy of ovarian cancer. T-DM1 provoked cell cycle arrest in mitosis, and caused the appearance of aberrant mitotic spindles in cells treated with the drug. Biochemical experiments confirmed accumulation of the mitotic markers phospho-Histone H3 and phospho-BUBR1 in cells treated with the drug. Prolonged treatment of ovarian cancer cells with T-DM1 provoked the appearance of multinucleated cells which later led to cell death. Together, these data indicate that HER2 represents an important oncogene in ovarian cancer, and suggest that targeting this tyrosine kinase with T-DM1 may be therapeutically effective, especially in ovarian tumors with high content of HER2.Work supported by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain (BFU2012–39151), the Instituto de Salud Carlos III through the Spanish Cancer Centers

Forecasting Recharging Demand to Integrate Electric Vehicle Fleets in Smart Grids
Electric vehicle fleets and smart grids are two growing technologies. These technologies
provided new possibilities to reduce pollution and increase energy efficiency.
In this sense, electric vehicles are used as mobile loads in the power grid. A distributed
charging prioritization methodology is proposed in this paper. The solution is based
on the concept of virtual power plants and the usage of evolutionary computation
algorithms. Additionally, the comparison of several evolutionary algorithms, genetic
algorithm, genetic algorithm with evolution control, particle swarm optimization, and
hybrid solution are shown in order to evaluate the proposed architecture. The proposed
solution is presented to prevent the overload of the power grid
A non-linear model for forecasting the monthly demand for electricity in Colombia
ABSTRACT This article provides a comparison of the performance of an ARIMA model, a multilayer perceptron, and an autoregressive neural network for forecasting the monthly demand for electricity in Colombia for the following month. The available data were divided into two different sets, i.e. one set for estimating the model parameters, and the other for evaluating the forecast ability outside the range of the sample calibration data. The results show that the autoregressive neural network is able to forecast the demand more accurately than the other two models when the total available data are considered.
Information activity in digital media: will print newspapers survive without advertising?
This crisis has accelerated printed press’ process to become online. ICT have transformed the information system both economically and productively. The dramatic decline in advertising revenues shakes the business model followed so far by media companies. We need new ways of financing, to allowe media survive. There are cases of new systems adopted for information activity to obtain profitability: from crowdfunding to ecommerce, supported in media audiences. All this makes us question the future of the media, in the way as they have been understood as information companies untill now
Heterogeneous data source integration for smart grid ecosystems based on metadata mining
The arrival of new technologies related to smart grids and the resulting ecosystem of applications andmanagement systems pose many new problems. The databases of the traditional grid and the variousinitiatives related to new technologies have given rise to many different management systems with several formats and different architectures. A heterogeneous data source integration system is necessary toupdate these systems for the new smart grid reality. Additionally, it is necessary to take advantage of theinformation smart grids provide. In this paper, the authors propose a heterogeneous data source integration based on IEC standards and metadata mining. Additionally, an automatic data mining framework isapplied to model the integrated information.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2013-40767-
Electricity clustering framework for automatic classification of customer loads
Clustering in energy markets is a top topic with high significance on expert and intelligent systems. The main impact of is paper is the proposal of a new clustering framework for the automatic classification of electricity customers’ loads. An automatic selection of the clustering classification algorithm is also highlighted. Finally, new customers can be assigned to a predefined set of clusters in the classificationphase. The computation time of the proposed framework is less than that of previous classification tech- niques, which enables the processing of a complete electric company sample in a matter of minutes on a personal computer. The high accuracy of the predicted classification results verifies the performance of the clustering technique. This classification phase is of significant assistance in interpreting the results, and the simplicity of the clustering phase is sufficient to demonstrate the quality of the complete mining framework.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2013-40767-RMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad IDI- 2015004
