Berberis microphylla: A species with phenotypic plasticity in different climatic conditions

Berberis microphylla G. Forst., commonly called as "calafate" produces small fruits with high content of carbohydrates, phenols and antioxidants. The objective of this work was to characterize the vegetative and reproductive cycle of Berberis microphylla cultivated on Moreno (Buenos Aires province), Argentina in comparison with the results obtained in Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) which is its place of origin. Vegetative growth was very different in the two localities. Moreno plants grew with more lax branches than Ushuaia. In effect, length of the shoots was significantly higher for Moreno than Ushuaia plants. Flowering period in Ushuaia plants was concentrated in November while in Moreno it happens earlier and over a longer period. Pollen grains collected from Moreno flowers had a diameter of ~60 μm, significantly different to pollen grain from Ushuaia (57.11 μm). Nevertheless, pollen grain vitality was superior in Ushuaia flowers (75%) as compared to Moreno flowers (52%). On the other hand, fruit harvested in Moreno was at 60 days from full bloom while in Ushuaia plants at 120 days. Although the size and compounds measured in the fruits of Moreno were lower than those of Ushuaia, results obtained indicate that B. microphylla grown on Moreno is an interesting option to obtain another nutraceutical fruit near the centers of mass consumption.Fil: Radice, Silvia. Selkies, Mermaids, and Other Human-Animal Merfolk in Contemporary Irish Poetry

Traballo Fin de Grao en Lingua e Literatura Inglesas. Curso 2018-2019From its very beggining, Irish Literature has been very connected to the ocean. Mythological creatures such as selkies, mermaids and what is known as merfolk in general, have constitued a crucial part of Irish folk tradition. Interestingly enough, this trope is also recurrent in contemporary Irish poetry, especially in that crafted by female writers. This dissertation will analyse Nuale Ní Dhomhnaill's poetry collection "The Fifty Minute Mermaid", as well as a selection of various poems authored by some of the most relevant female figures of current Irish poetry, so as to scrutinize the bounds between the allegory of the sea creature and modern configurations of womanhood. My hypothesis is that the current use of this allegorial merfolk by contemporary Irish women poets throws new light on those binary oppositions that have traditionally framed women's lives: private e public spheres, entrapment and mobility, fixity and change, body and mind, human and animal, etc. Therefore, with the help of recent debates in Ecocriticism, Ecofeminism and Animal Studies, I aspire to show how the mentioned mythological sea creatures which have been mainly associated with Irish folk tradition and sometimes considered as symbols of cultural and national identity, are reshaped by contemparary female authors to construct new, alternative female subjectivitie

Private body of culture: simbolic industry, freedom and commons.

De la cultura, campo de individuación psíquica y colectiva, depende el diseño de la memoria y el olvido de las comunidades. Ella marca la experiencia simbólica de la vida cotidiana, las relaciones sociales y las instituciones situadas entre el empoderamiento individual y los movimientos de masas. Si es diseñada desde las corporaciones o dominada por abstracciones hegemónicas de sociabilidad como es el mercado, o sometida a las dudas entre los modelos privados o estatales, se escapa un campo a veces tan invisible como urgente: el procomún. En este contexto global tecnoeconómico, donde el conocimiento científico, la información y el entretenimiento son las mercancías elementales del diseño post-industrial, la protección de antiguos y nuevos bienescomunes exige una demanda teórica y creación práctica de otros paradigmas políticos basados en los valores de la libertad, del acceso abierto y de la compartición social de las facultades creativas. El sistema capitalista ya no ofrece soluciones válidas para una gran parte de la humanidad. La ciudad postindustrial del siglo XXI constituye simultáneamente un depósito de gente desempleada y la promesa de otras economías morales posibles. Esta ilusión potencial exige otra representación de la tecnología que integre la posibilidad de expresiones culturales autónomas, condiciones de la variabilidad y de la democratización simbólica.Communities rely on culture to design memories and forgetfulness because culture is the field for collective and individual identity. Culture imprints the symbolic experience of everyday life; also shapes relationships among social institutions, masses and individual empowerment. If corporations, the privates or the State, in a hesitant attitude caused by social abstractions, shape culture, there is a tertium quid sometimes invisible such as the commons. In a context where global economy and technology transform scientific knowledge, information, and entertainment into postindustrial commodities, defending the new commons implies the search for a care and, at the same time, the creation of new political paradigms based on freedom, free access and openness. Capitalism does not offer valid alternatives for a big deal of humanity. The 21st post-industrial city becomes a depot for unemployed people reflecting another possible moral economies. In that reflection there should be another perception of technology together with a cultural homegrown and autonomous expression as required for variability and symbolic democratization

Estaslimitaciones están asociadas con las pobres propiedades de absorción de los complejos metálicos,especialmentelos compuestos de PtIV. Los complejos metálicos son típicamente considerados comocatalizadores, los cuales convierten sustratos en compuestos más valiosos, mientras que aquí, empleo demanera poco convencional las flavinas como fotocatalizadores para activar profármacos con metalesque actúan como sustratos. Análisis de algunas teorías de la formación aplicadas al concepto de generatividad

We found exciting to study how generativity has evolved since Erikson (1950) outside the Psychology and Sociology disciplines, and had permeated into the fields of Ecology, Grammar and Syntax, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), without losing part of the essence of the genuine meaning given by Erikson back then, about the generative task and generativity as a construct. I wanted to investigate this further, and my findings turned out to be very interesting. In this paper I perform a basic analysis of some training theories applied to the generativity concept as a task and a construct since Erikson (1950), in the field of Psychology and Sociology, Grammar and Syntax, Ecology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT).Nos pareció apasionante estudiar cómo la generatividad había evolucionado desde Erikson (1950) fuera de las disciplinas de la Psicología y la Sociología, y había calado en los campos de la Ecología, la Gramática y la Sintaxis, y las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC), sin perder parte de la esencia del sentido genuino que Erikson le dio entonces, sobre la tarea generativa y la generatividad como constructo. Disentangling accretion disk and dust emissions in the infrared spectrum of type 1 AGN

We use a semi-empirical model to reproduce the 0.1-10um spectral energy distribution (SED) of a sample of 85 luminous quasars. In the model, the continuum emission from the accretion disk as well as the nebular lines are represented by a single empirical template (disk), where differences in the optical spectral index are reproduced by varying the amount of extinction. The near- and mid-infrared emission of the AGN-heated dust is modelled as the combination of two black-bodies (dust). The model fitting shows that the disk and dust components are remarkably uniform among individual quasars, with differences in the observed SED largely accounted for by varying levels of obscuration in the disk as well as differences in the relative luminosity of the disk and dust components. By combining the disk-subtracted SEDs of the 85 quasars, we generate a template for the 1-10um emission of the AGN-heated dust. Additionally, we use a sample of local Seyfert 1 galaxies with full spectroscopic coverage in the 0.37um to 39um range to demonstrate a method for stitching together spectral segments obtained with different PSF and extraction apertures. Geología de la comarca Potrero de Díaz – Salta

El área estudiada se caracteriza por la presencia de basamento precámbrico-paleozoico inferior, Complejo Puncoviscana y una espesa cobertura Mesozoica y Cenozoica. Esta cobertura esta representa por los grupos Salta y Orán para el primero se reconoció a la Formación Los Blanquitos como único representante del Subgrupo Pirgua y se destaca la presencia de los subgrupos Balbuena y Santa Bárbara, por encontrarse todas sus unidades representadas. Para el Grupo Orán se identificaron las formaciones Río Seco y Anta del Subgrupo Metán y la Formación Piquete del Subgrupo Jujuy. Las estructuras que dominan la zona se relacionan a retrocorrimientos del basamento hacia el oeste. En la zona se reconocen como estructuras principales a las fallas La Yesera, Escoipe y Corral Viejo. La primera muestra plano inclinado al este y es responsable de elevar el bloque de basamento denominado Alto de Lerma sobre las unidades del Grupo Orán, mientras que la segunda falla presenta plano inclinado al oeste y regula la acomodación del bloque de basamento. Por último, la falla Corral Viejo se considera como reactivación de una falla extensional de edad cretácica. De forma sincrónica se formaron el anticlinal Chicoana y el sinclinal Potrero de Díaz. Los depósitos del Grupo Salta se alinean a lo largo de estas fracturas submeridianas, evidenciando los limites de los hemigraben de la cuenca y los paulatinos traslapes de las unidades hacia el norte y el oeste, las variaciones observadas en los espesores relevados indican una configuración escalonada tipo fosas rellenadas a medida que fueron topográficamente superadas
