    Get PDF
Performance measurement plays an important role on media organizations and there are literally many methods for measuring the performance of an organization. European Foundation Quality Management (EFQM) is one of the most popular methods for measuring performance of organizations. In this paper, we perform an empirical survey to customize this method for broadcasting organization of Iran. The proposed model of this paper designs a questionnaire and distributes among 3000 employees of the Iranian broadcasting organization. We have analyzed and assigned some points to different criteria and realized that standard EFQM can be considered as a customized method for taking appropriate strategies in this organization

An empirical investigation on factors influencing choice of foreign market by media firms

    Get PDF
This study examines a number of factors suggested in the literature as important determinants of the foreign market selection. Key strategic factors are determined as four groups: host-country characteristics, firm-specific factors, competitive situation and content adaptation. In this study, multiple regression and path analysis are used. To test the model with modeling techniques, the necessary data from 29 media firms were used. It is based on a questionnaire, which has provided several insights into market selection elements. Our findings indicate that all components of the host country, exporting companies, competitive situation and the content adaptation could influence positively the selection of foreign market. The results also indicate that the adaptation of content was the most effective in choosing a foreign market. In addition, cross-cultural adaptation is an important component in selection of foreign markets. The results also suggest that the causal relationships between the independent variables are positive and significant, while the relationship between the content adaptation and the competitive situation has not been confirmed

Strategic planning in media organizations of Iran

Organizations with activities of all kinds are influenced by environmental conditions, and external environment is in fact the beginning point of the strategy. Strategic management is an approach resulting from fast changing age and can consider it as a view and a technique for flexible planning to fast changes, and balanced score card is regarded as one of the strong instruments in this zone. Balanced score card can truly plays an important role in all stages of strategic management and the efficiency of this model is considerably regarded in management performance evaluation in different organizations. However, strong instrument such as balance score card is hardly used because of long term dominance of political approaches in the management of Iran media organizations. This paper conceptualizes administrational trend of strategic planning by implementing balanced score card and we draw strategy map and determine performance indexes in a written media organization (Hamshahri Newspaper)

A Path Analysis of Factors Affecting Social Control of Cybercultural Transgressions

    Get PDF
Social control of cyberspace is a necessity to restrict online transgressions (non-normative behaviors), and reduce their disruptive effects. The current study aimed at examining the factors affecting social control of cybercultural transgressions. A questionnaire was administered to Iranian social media users, and 989 participants have filled it out. A path analysis model was constructed testing the effects of Low Self-Control, Depression, Negative Interpersonal Relationships, Computer/ Internet Self-Efficacy, Netiquette, and Normative Beliefs on Transgressive Behaviors, and Transgressive Content Consumption. The results showed that Low Self-Control increased both criterion variables, and fully or partially mediated the effects of other variables on them, except for Negative Interpersonal Relationships. The important contribution of the current study was the recognition of the role of self-control as a mediator among examined variables. The findings of this study can be employed to devise new policies and initiatives to socially control the cybercultural transgressions, without applying coercion

The purpose of this article is to identify the role of media technology development in the economy. In this study, 30 experts in the field of media were used as a sample. The research method is qualitative. Since in this research, there was a need to address the depth of the subject and a deep and comprehensive understanding of media experts, for this reason, the interview method was used. In order for the interviews to have a specific structure, semi-structured interviews have been used. Data were also analyzed through content analysis using maxqda software. In this study, 23 effective factors that determine the positive and negative role of media technologies in the economy were identified, including: information production and increasing economic knowledge, more employment, consumer welfare, reducing economic inequality, reducing political risk, increasing Economic security and efficiency, more control and supervision of people over economic activities, expansion of corporate markets, creation of free online market, innovations and innovations resulting from new technologies increase revenues, increase competition between organizations increase the quality of economic activities, improve and Improving the standards of economic development, public participation in economic activities, expressing people's satisfaction or dissatisfaction with economic activities, spending time on social networks

Ranking different barriers influencing on media privatization

For years, there have been growing interests on cost reduction for products and services. Privatization is considered as one of the most important techniques to increase relative efficiencies of publically held firms. In this paper, we present an empirical investigation to rank important barriers on privatization of television (TV) media industry in Iran. The proposed study of this paper designs and distributes a questionnaire using a sample of 234 out of 600 graduate students who were enrolled in media communication studies. The survey considers social, cultural, economic as well as rules and regulations factors influencing privatization of TV media industry. The survey uses the ranking method presented by Cook and Kress (1990) [Cook, W. D., & Kress, M. (1990). A data envelopment model for aggregating preference rankings. Management Science, 36(11), 1302-1310.]. The results of the investigation indicate rules and regulations are the most important barriers on privatization of Iranian TV followed by cultural, social and economic factors

Congestion Driven Clock Tree Routing with Via Minimization

Physical routability constraints such as legal location checking and excessive number of vias are usually ignored in most of the clock tree algorithms. These Constraints could make an abstract clock tree difficult to route in practice and cause important manufacturability and reliability challenges. Therefore the final clock tree layout specifications can be seriously deviated from the expected ones. Vias have major impact on circuit reliability and manufacturing yield. The variability in via resistance is becoming an increasing concern in nanotechnologies. In this thesis a practical frame work is proposed to construct the clock tree network under via constraint. We propose an algorithm that minimizes the number of bends that is closely related to the number of vias. The proposed algorithm is able to construct a zero skew clock tree with at most one bend branch merging. By performing simultaneous wire sizing and clock tree construction, the algorithm effectively reduces the number of bends at the expense of a small increase in capacitance. Furthermore, the number of vias is also controlled by considering a pre-specified pattern to route the internal clock tree edges. The impact of the pattern routing is taken into account in the early clock distribution design phase. We introduce a probabilistic routing demand estimation method to integrate the expected routing demand of the clock net with other clock tree optimization metrics. A new demand driven cost function is exploited in network topology generation as well as branch point embedding stages of a zero skew clock tree algorithm to reduce the number of vias. Our experiments show considerable improvements in the total number of vias. 28% reduction in the number of vias is obtained while the total clock tree wire length is reduced by an average of 8%. The post-routing induced clock skew is also controlled efficiently

According to Iran's vulnerability to natural disasters and the important role of the mass media in managing such disasters, the purpose of this study is to achieve a model describing the role of local and national radio and TV in disaster management. The data were collected through interviews with three groups including the victims of the earthquake in Azerbaijan, managers and employees of local radio and TV in Azerbaijan, and experts in the field of media and crisis. Using grounded theory method to analyze the data collected from victims, their media needs were identified that consist of need for information, need for media attention, need for training and need to have a representative. A comprehensive model of national and local radio and TV channels role in disaster management was based upon such media needs. The model was designed according to the views of managers of local radio and TV in Azerbaijan and was ultimately approved by the experts. According to this model, in the event of natural disasters, local and national media play four key roles that are educating and culture-building, informing and making communication, monitoring and demanding as well as winning public participation and creating national solidarity. Using this model, local and national channels are able to interact effectively with one another to manage natural disasters in an integrated way.
