Objective: To reveal the effect of preoperative Kegel exercises on early period continence rates after open radical prostatectomy. Materials and Methods: Data of patients with open radical prostatectomy between January 2019 and July 2022, in a tertiary academic health center were retrospectively reviewed. Patient" characteristics, perioperative parameters and postoperative follow-up results were recorded. Patients were divided into two groups as those who did Kegel exercises in the preoperative period and those who did not, and groups were compared. Results: There were 38 patients in the Kegel exercise group and 40 patients in the other group. Postoperative 1st month and postoperative 3rd month incontinence rates were similar between the groups (p=0.406, and p=0.387). At 6th months postoperatively, the rate of incontinence in the Kegel group was 7.9%, while it was 25.0% in the other group (p=0.043). Similarly, the rate of incontinence at 1st year postoperatively was significantly lower in the Kegel group (5.3% vs 20.0%, p=0.001). At 6 months postoperatively, the QoL score in the Kegel positive group was 86, while it was 65 in the other group (p=0.001). In the postoperative 1st year controls, the quality of life (QoL) score was statistically significantly higher in patients with preoperative Kegel exercise (p=0.001). Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that preoperative Kegel exercises had a significant positive effect on continence rate after radical prostatectomy in the postoperative 6th month and in the first year follow-up, and preparative Kegel exercises were significantly associated with higher quality of life scores at 6th months and 1st year follow-up

Recent Advances in Novel Materials and Techniques for Developing Transparent Wound Dressings

Optically transparent wound dressings offer a range of potential applications in the biomedical field, as they allow for the monitoring of wound healing progress without having to replace the dressing. These dressings must be impermeable to water and bacteria, yet permeable to moisture vapor and atmospheric gases in order to maintain a moist environment at the wound site. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of the types of wound dressings, novel wound dressing materials, advanced fabrication techniques for transparent wound dressing materials, and the key features and applications of transparent dressings for the healing process, as well as how it can improve healing outcomes. This review mainly focuses on representing specifications of transparent polymeric wound dressing materials, such as transparent electrospun nanofibers, transparent crosslinked hydrogels, and transparent composite films/membranes. Due to the advance properties of electrospun nanofiber such as large surface area, enable efficient incorporation of antibacterial molecules, a structure similar to the extracellular matrix, and high mechanical stability, is often used in wound dressing applications. We also highlight the hydrogels or films for wound healing applications, it's promote the healing process, provide a moisture environment, and offer pain relief with their cool, high-water content, excellent biocompatibility, and bio-biodegradability.Comment: N

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the short-term outcomes of our modified autologous transobturator tape(aTOT) technique with rectus abdominis muscle fascial graft for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI).Material and methods: The data of 22 patients who underwent modified aTOT were recorded. Perioperative data regardingoperative time, complications and postoperative visual analogue scores were noted. Patients were assessed 18 monthsafter surgery. The primary endpoints of this study were the improvements in the International Consultation on IncontinenceQuestionnaire-Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS) subscores, one-hour pad test and cough stress testrates as an objective cure as well as the improvements in the PGI-I and ICIQ-FLUTS quality of life scores as a subjective cure. Results: Mean age and the mean follow-up period were 51.7 ± 9.8 years and 20.1 ± 0.9 months, respectively. Urethralhypermobility and a positive cough stress test were detected in all the patients. Mean operative time was 43.8 ± 8.1 min.and the overall complication rate was 9%. Mean VAS scores at postoperative 24 hours were 2.6 ± 1.2. At the postoperativeeighteenth month, no patient had a positive cough test and mean PGI-I score was 2 while two patients had moderateurinary incontinence according to the pad test. Pad test results, ICIQ subscores of voiding QoL, incontinence, incontinenceQoL, total score and total QoL score at baseline and eighteen months after surgery were 76.9 ± 19.9, 9.6 ± 4.1, 15.5 ± 4.0,39.5 ± 7.9, 27.9 ± 6.6, 68.4 ± 13.8 and 7.1 ± 2, 10.1 ± 2.4, 6.6 ± 2.1, 13.4 ± 4.5, 20.4 ± 4.8, 39.7 ± 9.2 respectively (p = 0.001,p = 0.004, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, and p = 0.001, respectively)Conclusions: Modified aTOT is an effective and safe method with low morbidity for SUI treatment in short term

In our research, we aim to study the effects of combined usage of tramadole HCl + paracetamol on rat tibia fracture model. In our study, 60 Wistar-Albino type male rats, weighted at 300-350 g., were divided as control and test ( tramadole HCl + paracetamol) groups Under general anesthesia, standard closed fractures were created on right tibias of all rats using blunt ended needle holder with three point principle and then closed reduction and fixing with intramedullary nail (0.7 mm) were provided. After fracture treatment of 30 rats in the test group, starting at the same day, 40mg/kg/day tramadole HCL was introduced as daily intermuscular dosage until they were sacrificed. Rats were sacrificed after the fractures as groups of 10 individuals at 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks. Healing fractured tibias were examined mechanically, radiologically, histopathologically. Results: No positive or negative radiological, biochemical and histological effect was detected after the long duration of tramadole HCL + paracetamol usage, starting from the first day and reaching to 6 weeks, in healing process of closed tibia fractures created and fixed with IM nails in rats. Considering the negative effects of NSAIDs on fracture healing, we think that tramadole HCl + paracetamol combination is a safe option in postoperative pain treatment after fracture. One of the most common types of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma, which is rarely seen to metastasise. This tumour has many histological subtypes, one of which is the rarely seen basosquamous carcinoma. Basosquamous carcinoma is considered an aggressive cancer with an increased risk of metastases. We report a 60 year-old patient who presented with a mass in his parotid gland as a result of fine-needle aspiration biopsy for pleomorphic adenoma, who was diagnosed with basosquamous carcinoma
