Conceiving an experimental discipline: a contribution to general chemistry
The purpose of this paper is to present a classification criterion for general chemistry experiments departing from a survey of 35 years of the experimental general chemistry discipline at the Chemistry Institute - UNICAMP. It is shown that by considering the most remarkable characteristics of an experiment and classifying it under Conceptual, Fundamental, Methodological or Quantitative criterion, teachers could better develop the discipline plan and prevent a subject superposition. Taking into account the system Fe3+/SCN- , the article also exemplify how is possible to modify an experimental approach and to conceive other procedures with different didactic purposes.1818182
Resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to fansidar, quinine and tetracycline
For the first time an Amazonian strain of Plasmodium falciparum resistant to FansidarR (pyrimethamine + sulfadoxine) and quinine + tetracycline, taken sequentially is described. This case involves a female patient 13 years old, living for five years in Ariquemes County, State of Rondônia, in the Brazilian Amazon. The infection was cured with a single high dose of chloroquine administered intravenously. The authors point out the high valor of chloroquine in treating falciparum-resistant malaria, especially when given in higher doses than the standard one used for malaria therapy.

To residential customers, the management of energy consumption can bring significant costs reduction and decreased environmental impact. This work presents a solution based on the use of situation-awareness applied in IOT that helps the users to reduce the consumption of electric energy through its own residence. The practical results obtained in the application of this proposal in a real-live scenario confirmed the option of collecting information directly of electrical appliances and inform the user of their energy expenditures in real-time, allowing the knowledge and the management of their expenses
The present work aims to evaluate the coastal dynamics along the Peró beach over the last 7,000 years, using shell-midden dating, sediment granulometric analysis, aerial photography from different ages, and field investigation to aid result interpretation and provide for clues on the adaptation of the methodology employed. Paleobeach reconstruction has been made possible by a combination of 14C age-dating and the interpretation of beach ridge disposition. Aerial photography from the years of 1959, 1976, and 2003 allow the evaluation of the present short-term coastline behavior, thus establishing the position of the paleobeach in relation to the current high-tide zone. Results indicate that the paleobeach situated in the present-day coastal plain dates from 3.373 - 3.000 cal A.P. Coastline variation in the 1959 - 1976 period consists of approximately 30m of accretion on its most significant point, while in the it eroded about 30m at the central beach sector during 1976 - 2003 period.

Concomitant Use of Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitor and Streptokinase after Unsuccessful Rescue Angioplasty
A 38-year-old man with acute myocardial infarction in the lower wall affecting the right ventricle underwent thrombolytic treatment with streptokinase. Approximately 2 hours after the thrombolytic treatment started, he presented with signs of coronary reocclusion. He underwent emergency cineangiocoronariography that revealed that his right coronary artery was completely occluded by a clot. He unsuccessfully underwent angioplasty and stent implantation. After the concomitant use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor, coronary TIMI III flow was achieved without additional dilations, and he was discharged from the hospital 5 days later with no further complications.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Escola Paulista de MedicinaUNIFESP, EPMSciEL
Severe cognitive dysfunction and shrinking lung syndrome in systemic lupus erythematous
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that can affect any organ or system. Neuropsychiatric and pulmonary involvement can occur in 40 and 50% of patients respectively, and may occur in several different clinical forms. While the main neuropsychiatric manifestations are represented by cognitive impairment, organic cerebral syndromes, delirium, psychosis, seizures, and peripheral neuropathies, the main forms of pulmonary involvement are pleurisy with or without pleural effusion, pneumonitis, interstitial disease, pulmonary hypertension, and alveolar hemorrhage. The authors report the case of a 49-year-old woman whose first manifestation of SLE was represented by two rare manifestations: rapidly progressive cognitive impairment, which was associated with respiratory failure caused by the shrinking lung syndrome. The authors call attention to the under-diagnosis of lupus pulmonary complications and its association with severe cognitive impairment that often necessitates aggressive treatment
Prevalence of human cryptosporidiosis in the Americas: systematic review and meta-analysis
Cryptosporidiosis is a disease caused by the Cryptosporidium spp parasite. As some species of Cryptosporidium have a wide host spectrum, the characterization of the pathogen at the species or genotype level is of great importance to define the sources of infection for humans and the potential for public health. This study investigated the diversity of the genus Cryptosporidium spp. in humans from all over the American continent and observed whether the method used to search for the parasite influenced the prevalence found in the Americas. This systematic review was carried out using the Pubmed, Science direct, Lilacs, Scielo, and Scopus databases with publications from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2020. For data synthesis, the PRISMA flowchart was used and for the meta-analysis we used the MetaXL program. Of the selected publications, 57, 9 and 16 belonged to the region of South, Central and North America, respectively. The prevalence found for South, Central, and North America was 7%, 7%, and 8%, respectively, when analyzing publications that used only the microscopy method. When we analyzed the publications that used immunological and molecular methods, we found prevalences of 10%, 9%, and 21% for South, Central, and North America, respectively. The C. hominis subtype IbA10G2 was the most reported in the American continent, followed by subtype IeA11G3T3 and, for C. parvum, subtype IIaA15G2RI was the most reported. In conclusion, Cryptosporidium spp. is present throughout the American continent and its prevalence is higher when immunological and/or molecular methods are used, in addition to direct microscopic examination
