    Renormalization trasformations of the 4D BFYM theory

    We study the most general renormalization transformations for the first-order formulation of the Yang-Mills theory. We analyze, in particular, the trivial sector of the BRST cohomology of two possible formulations of the model: the standard one and the extended one. The latter is a promising starting point for the interpretation of the Yang-Mills theory as a deformation of the topological BF theory. This work is a necessary preliminary step towards any perturbative calculation, and completes some recently obtained results.Comment: 12 pages, Late

    Topological Yang-Mills cohomology in pure Yang-Mills Theory

    Using the first order formalism (BFYM) of the Yang-Mills theory we show that it displays an embedded topological sector corresponding to the field content of the Topological Yang-Mills theory (TYM). This picture arises after a proper redefinition of the fields of BFYM and gives a clear representation of the non perturbative part of the theory in terms of the topological sector. In this setting the calculation of the vevvev of a YM observable is translated into the calculation of a corresponding (non topological) quantity in TYM. We then compare the topological observables of TYM with a similar set of observables for BFYM and discuss the possibility of describing topological observables in YM theory.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, one reference added, to appear in Phys. Una vía de circulación (VDC) es un espacio de terreno continuo de ámbito público que permite la circulación de vehículos o personas entre diferentes ámbitos. La planificación y denominación de las mismas, dependen de cada uno de los municipios que integran la provincia de Buenos Aires.     One datum and many values for sustainable Industry 4.0: a prognostic and health management use case

    Industrial context of today, driven by the Industry 4.0 paradigm, is overwhelmed by data. Decreasing cost of innovative technologies, and recent market dynamics have pushed and pulled respectively for those architectures and practices in which data are the masters. While advancing, we have to take care of waste, even though intangibility of data makes them hardly connected to waste. In this paper we are going to reflect on data intensive context of today, focusing on the industrial sector. A smart approach for fully exploiting data collecting infrastructures is proposed, and its declination in a prognostic and health management (PHM) use case set inside an automatic painting system is presented. The contributions of this papers are mainly two: first of all, the general conceptual take-away of "data re-use" is presented and discussed. Moreover, a PHM solution for painting system's number plates, based on optical character recognition (OCR), is proposed and tested as a proof-of-concept for the "data re-use" concept. Summarizing, the already-in-use data sharing principle for achieving transparency and integration inside Industry 4.0, is presented as complementary with the proposed "data re-use", in order to develop a really sustainable shift toward the future

    Amazon, Google and Microsoft Solutions for IoT: Architectures and a Performance Comparison

    Internet of Things (IoT) aims to connect the real world made up of devices, sensors and actuators to the virtual world of Internet in order to interconnect devices with each other generating information from the gathered data. Devices, in general, have limited computational power and limited storage capacity. Cloud Computing (CC) has virtually unlimited capacity in terms of storage and computing power, and is based on sharing resources. Therefore, the integration between IoT and CC seems to be one of the most promising solutions. In fact, many of the biggest companies that offer Cloud Services are focusing on the IoT world to offer services also in this direction to their users. In this paper we compare the three main Cloud Platforms (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure) regarding to the services made available for the IoT. After describing the typical architecture of an IoT application, we map the Cloud-IoT Platforms services with this architecture analyzing the key points for each platform. At the same time, in order to conduct a comparative analysis of performance, we focus on a service made available by all platforms (MQTT middleware) building the reference scenarios and the metrics to be taken into account. Finally, we provide an overview of platform costs based on different loads. The aim is not to declare a winner, but to provide a useful tool to developers to make an informed choice of a platform depending on the use case

    Simultaneous idiopathic segmental infarction of the great omentum and acute appendicitis: a rare association

    Idiopathic segmental infarction of the greater omentum is an uncommon cause of acute abdomen. The etiology is still unclear and the symptoms mimic acute appendicitis. Its presentation simultaneously with acute appendicitis is still more infrequent. We present a case of a 47-year old woman without significant previous medical history, admitted with an acute abdomen, in which the clinical diagnosis was acute appendicitis and in whom an infarcted segment of right side of the greater omentum was also found at laparotomy. As the etiology is unknown, we highlighted some of the possible theories, and emphasize the importance of omental infarction even in the presence of acute appendicitis as a coincident intraperitoneal pathological condition

    A functional connection between dyskerin and energy metabolism

    The human DKC1 gene encodes dyskerin, an evolutionarily conserved nuclear protein whose overexpression represents a common trait of many types of aggressive sporadic cancers. As a crucial component of the nuclear H/ACA snoRNP complexes, dyskerin is involved in a variety of essential processes, including telomere maintenance, splicing efficiency, ribosome biogenesis, snoRNAs stabilization and stress response. Although multiple minor dyskerin splicing isoforms have been identified, their functions remain to be defined. Considering that low-abundance splice variants could contribute to the wide functional repertoire attributed to dyskerin, possibly having more specialized tasks or playing significant roles in changing cell status, we investigated in more detail the biological roles of a truncated dyskerin isoform that lacks the C-terminal nuclear localization signal and shows a prevalent cytoplasmic localization. Here we show that this dyskerin variant can boost energy metabolism and improve respiration, ultimately conferring a ROS adaptive response and a growth advantage to cells. These results reveal an unexpected involvement of DKC1 in energy metabolism, highlighting a previously underscored role in the regulation of metabolic cell homeostasis
