Analytic Hypoellipticity in the Presence of Lower Order Terms

We consider a second order operator with analytic coefficients whose principal symbol vanishes exactly to order two on a symplectic real analytic manifold. We assume that the first (non degenerate) eigenvalue vanishes on a symplectic submanifold of the characteristic manifold. In the CC^\infty framework this situation would mean a loss of 3/2 derivatives. We prove that this operator is analytic hypoelliptic. The main tool is the FBI transform. A case in which CC^\infty hypoellipticity fails is also discussed.Comment: 40 page

The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences

Fever with spontaneous gingival bleeding: A diagnostic challenge

A previously healthy 4-year-old girl was admitted to our institution with fever and painless spontaneous gingival bleeding, persisting over a week, without evident lesions or trauma. She was born in Italy and had always lived in Palermo. She had never travelled internationally. Lab oratory testing showed a negative swab test for Sars-CoV2 and a tri linear pancytopenia with neutropenia (0.6 × 103/mm3), lymphopenia (1.17 × 103/mm3), thrombocytopenia (115 × 103/mm3) and anemia (Hb 7.1 g/dL, RBC 3.48 × 103/mm3, Hct 21.2%, RDW-CV 23.4%, RDW SD 51,6 fL). Other laboratory findings showed hyponatremia (130 mmol/dL), hypocalcemia (8.7 mmol/dL), hypoalbuminemia (3.5 g/dL), increase of LDH (267 IU/L), C-reactive protein (1.64 mg/dL) and alka line phosphatase levels (190 IU/L). On physical examination she appeared in pain, pale, with hyperemic pharynx without plaque or pu rulent secretion and hypertrophic bleeding gingiva (see Fig. 1). There was notable cervical lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly (1 cm below the costal margin), and splenomegaly (3 cm below the costal margin). An abdominal ultrasound showed an enlarged spleen (15.6 × 6.6 cm) and ascites. Additional history revealed the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis, treated with six doses of Amphotericin B liposomal (administered for first 5 days plus one dose on the 10th day) seven months earlier. A subsequent leishmania polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay on blood and gingival brush confirmed the diagnosis of a leishmaniasis relapse. A comprehensive immunological evaluation including an HIV test excluded any primary or acquired immunodeficiency disease. Treatment with amphotericin B was administered over 10 days, leading to a full recovery. Visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum is endemic in the Mediterranean region. Mucocutaneus lesions are extremely rare with this species and usually affect immunosuppressed patients. In children leishmaniasis relapse with atypical mucosal involvement represent a rarity. Clinical follow up and periodic PCR tests (performed at 3-6-9-12 months after treatment) should be considered for early recognition of a relapse

Na terceira e última parte são realizadas simulações e projeções simples em um cenário de vigência da PEC 55.Palavras-chave: política fiscal; despesa primária; PEC 55 TÍTULO EM INGLÊSA heterodox critique of the New Fiscal Regime (PCA No. 55 of 2016)AbstractThis paper aims to critically analyze the Proposal for Constitutional Amendment (PCA) No. 55 of 2016, ratified by the National Congress. Such PCA, called the New Fiscal Regime, limits the primary government spending to the inflation of the previous year for the next twenty years. To achieve this goal, the article is divided into three parts. The first one, with a theoretical character, presents the principle of effective demand and the exogenous interest rate approach. The second one outlines the PCA No. 55, explaining what its supporters expect from its application. In the third one, simple simulations and projections are made in order to view a scenario in which the PCA No. 55 is in force. Keywords:  fiscal policy; primary spending; PCA No. 55Classificação JEL: B50, E62, H53, H68 Artigo recebido em 17 ago. 2016.

Galileo: A strongly typed, interactive conceptual language

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Galileo, a programming language for database applications, is presented. Galileo is a strongly typed, interactive programming language designed specifically to support Semantic Data Model features (classification, aggregation and specialization) as well as abstraction mechanisms of modern programming languages (types, abstract types and modularization). The main contributions of Galileo are: a) the proposal of a flexible type system to model database structure and semantic integrity constraints; b) the inclusion of type hierarchies to support the specialization abstraction mechanism of Semantic Data Models. c) the proposal of a modularization mechanism to structure data and operations into interrelated units; d) the integration of the abstraction mechanisms into an expression based language that allows an interactive use of the database without resorting to a new stand alone query language. Galileo will be used in the immediate future as a tool for database design and, in the long term, as a high level interface for DBMSs

Analytic and Gevrey Hypoellipticity for Perturbed Sums of Squares Operators

We prove a couple of results concerning pseudodifferential perturbations of differential operators being sums of squares of vector fields and satisfying H\"ormander's condition. The first is on the minimal Gevrey regularity: if a sum of squares with analytic coefficients is perturbed with a pseudodifferential operator of order strictly less than its subelliptic index it still has the Gevrey minimal regularity. We also prove a statement concerning real analytic hypoellipticity for the same type of pseudodifferential perturbations, provided the operator satisfies to some extra conditions (see Theorem 1.2 below) that ensure the analytic hypoellipticity

We describe the case of an elderly woman who acquired a Mycobacterium marinum infection following skin exposure to the bacteria through a small wound on her right ring finger, obtained while preparing fish. The resultant sporotrichoid nodules of the right hand and the distal forearm, refractory to the initial therapy with doxycycline and rifampicin, were successfully treated with oral regimen of clarithromycin

Factors Affecting the Quality of Bacterial Genomes Assemblies by Canu after Nanopore Sequencing

    Get PDF
Long-read sequencing (LRS), like Oxford Nanopore Technologies, is usually associated with higher error rates compared to previous generations. Factors affecting the assembly quality are the integrity of DNA, the flowcell efficiency, and, not least all, the raw data processing. Among LRS-intended de novo assemblers, Canu is highly flexible, with its dozens of adjustable parameters. Different Canu parameters were compared for assembling reads of Salmonellaenterica ser. Bovismorbificans (genome size of 4.8 Mbp) from three runs on MinION (N50 651, 805, and 5573). Two of them, with low quality and highly fragmented DNA, were not usable alone for assembly, while they were successfully assembled when combining the reads from all experiments. The best results were obtained by modifying Canu parameters related to the error correction, such as corErrorRate (exclusion of overlaps above a set error rate, set up at 0.40), corMhapSensitivity (the coarse sensitivity level, set to “high”), corMinCoverage (set to 0 to correct all reads, regardless the overlaps length), and corOutCoverage (corrects the longest reads up to the imposed coverage, set to 100). This setting produced two contigs corresponding to the complete sequences of the chromosome and a plasmid. The overall results highlight the importance of a tailored bioinformatic analysis
