    Teacher and student interactions and characteristics from critical theorists school

    In recent years, critical thinkers have done serious discussions in education and other fields in our lives like social, cultural, political and economical. This paper is going to consider some of the critical thinkers’ theories in order to clarify teacher and student interactions in education. The research is a type of fundamental and qualitative study which frames teacher and student interactions by means of a descriptive – analytical method. Accordingly, we introduce critical teacher as a teacher who includes specific characteristics like emancipation, critical nature and openness. Therefore mentioned teacher attends the role of culture in human life and he resists reproduced by the regime. He is someone who provides the way for public hearing; in addition, he teaches his students how to resist domination. On the other side, a student in this school will not be dominated by the regime by means of its essential tools as probe and questioning. A student has been taught to hear everyone regardless of race, religion and social class. Finally, this paper proposes applying these ideas for educational systems informal and operational ways

    Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is a critical discourse analysis of position and role of women in the contemporary Iranian feminist, based upon Norman Fairclough theory as well as writings, books, speech and stories of feminists, such as Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, at three levels: 1) description 2) interpretation and 3) explanation. Methodology: Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis is used as a research method. “Discourse analysis” methodology seeks to study production structure and its general relationship using apparent effects of speech and writing, in critical discourse analysis, examined texts at three levels of description, interpretation, and explanation. The researcher accurately analyzed the works of Ahmadi Khorasani at three levels of description, interpretation, and explanation. Main Findings: findings indicate that, at the description level, highly frequent words referring to “women” and “family” have limited the women’s rights. At the interpretation level, writings and stories portray a very pathetic image of a woman; at the explanation level, sexual view, dominant patriarchal discourse, and power ruling women can be seen in the stories. Applications of this study: Application of this study can be used for the analysis of other writing in all over writers, special writers who work about women's rights and Women's Education. Also, finding this research help another researcher in doing critically studies for improving his/her research. Finally using this finding of research can help the reader to find hidden Ideology in writing. Novelty/Originality of this study: one of the main new aspects of this research is to paying attention to view’s Noshin Ahmadi Korasani. She is one of the women who try to change the law about human rights in Iran. There is no research about her writings & stories, especially from the critical aspect, so this research and finding is new research about women's rights

    CT-measured pulmonary artery diameter as an independent predictor of pulmonary hypertension in cystic fibrosis

    Purpose: The role of computed tomography (CT) scan, as a promising prognostic imaging modality in cystic fibrosis(CF), has been widely investigated, focusing on parenchymal abnormalities. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of thoracic vascular parameters on CT to detect pulmonary hypertension (PH). Material and methods: CF patients who contemporaneously underwent CT and echocardiography were retrospectively enrolled. Baseline characteristics in addition to pulmonary artery diameter (PAD) and pulmonary to aortic (PA/A) ratio were compared between cohorts with and without PH, based on the results of echocardiography separately in paediatric patients (< 18) and adults (≄ 18). Results: Of a total 119 CF patients, 39 (32.8%) had PH (paediatric: 23/78, 29.5%, adult: 16/41, 39%). In paediatric CF patients, mean age, HCo3, PCo2, and pulmonary artery diameter (PAD) were significantly higher in the PH group compared to the non-PH group. Mean pulmo however, only PAD remained as the independent predictor of PH based on multivariate analysis (overall: 22.86 mm [±3.86] vs. 18.43 mm [±4.72], p = 0.005, paediatric patients: 22.63 mm [±4.4] vs. 17.10 mm [±4.64], p = 0.03). Using a cut off of 19.25 mm, the diagnostic performance of PAD to detect PH was found to be as follows: sensitivity = 82%, specificity = 70%, and accuracy = 73.1%. No significant difference was demonstrated in PAD between PH and non-PH groups in adults with CF (23.19 [±3.60] vs. 21.34 [±3.49], p = 0.7). Conclusions: In CF patients, PAD revealed an age-dependent performance to detect PH. PAD can be applied to predict pulmonary hypertension in paediatric CF patients and may be recommended to be routinely measured on follow-up chest CT scan in childhood CF

    This paper studies the relationship between quality of life and its eight components with employee performance in general directorate of youth and sport in province of Golestan, Iran. The study uses a questionnaire developed by Walton (1974) [Walton, R. E. (1974). Improving quality of work life. Harvard Business Review, 52(3), 12.] for quality of life and a standard questionnaire named ACHIEVE consists of 25 questions for measuring the performance. Using Spearman correlation test, the study has determined a positive and meaningful relationship between employee performance and eight components of Walton’s model including adequate and fair compensation, safe and healthy working conditions, development of human competencies, growth and security, social integration, constitutionalization and total life space and social reliance

    Impingement of offset jets on rigid and movable beds.

    The present thesis describes an experimental and theoretical investigation of the flow field and scour action of an offset jet. The hydraulic characteristics of the offset jet and the resulting scour developed in the bed were investigated in the laboratory. Tests were carried out using a fixed bed and a single offset ratio (height of jet above bed / jet thickness). Three flow rates were used. Velocity measurements in two directions, especially in the recirculating zone, were of help in understanding the flow field and in providing the necessary data for comparison with the theoretical results. The development of scour, on a uniform sand, was monitored at set time intervals, in most cases until the asymptotic state was reached. A new effective and simple method for measuring the scour profile, while the experiment was running, was devised. The experiments were conducted using four different offset ratios and several flow-rates. Results showed dependency of the scour characteristics on Froude number, time and especially the offset ratio. The findings of each experiment were combined dimensionlessly to produce relationships which describe the development of scour characteristics for the tested range of parameters. Scour profiles were found to be similar for a given offset ratio, but differed from one offset ratio to another. The second part of the work was concerned with developing a general integral method capable of the prediction of velocity fields of different flow situations, including those of offset jet impinging on rigidand eroded beds. The combination of strip integral method in a curvilinear system with the k-E and algebraic stress turbulence models provided such a method. Application of this method to a variety of selected test cases revealed the ability of the model to capture the main features of the flow within the considered range of interest. The algebraic stress model was found to give better results in curved and wall effected flows

    Molecular characterization of bovine Cryptosporidium using Cryptosporidium oocyst wall protein (COWP) gene

    Cryptosporidium is a globally distributed protozoan parasite and one of the most common causes of infection and diarrhea in humans and cattle. The aim of the present study was to determine the species of Cryptosporidium among cattle with diarrhea by a nested PCR-RFLP technique at Cryptosporidium oocyst wall protein (COWP). Fecal samples from 158 calves aged 1-20 weeks were collected from 10 dairy farms in Qazvin province, Iran. Initial identification of Cryptosporidium was carried out by Zeihl-Neelsen acid-fast staining method of stool samples. DNA was extracted from 26 (16.45 %) positive microscopically samples and Cryptosporidium genotypes were determined. Cryptosporidium parvum were identified in 80.8% of the positive samples and, Cryptosporidium andersoni in 19.2%. In conclusion the use of COWP primers could be sensitive enough to conduct a routine detection study. The nested PCR method using the COWP gene sequence can be an alternative diagnostic method to identify infected with Cryptosporidium and its genetic diversity

    Clinical Study Rehabilitation after ACL Injury: A Fluoroscopic Study on the Effects of Type of Exercise on the Knee Sagittal Plane Arthrokinematics

    A safe rehabilitation exercise for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries needs to be compatible with the normal knee arthrokinematics to avoid abnormal loading on the joint structures. The objective of this study was to measure the amount of the anterior tibial translation (ATT) of the ACL-deficient knees during selective open and closed kinetic chain exercises. The intact and injured knees of fourteen male subjects with unilateral ACL injury were imaged using uniplanar fluoroscopy, while the subjects performed forward lunge and unloaded/loaded open kinetic knee extension exercises. The ATTs were measured from fluoroscopic images, as the distance between the tibial and femoral reference points, at seven knee flexion angles, from 0 ∘ to 90 ∘ . No significant differences were found between the ATTs of the ACL-deficient and intact knees at all flexion angles during forward lunge and unloaded open kinetic knee extension ( &lt; 0.05). During loaded open kinetic knee extension, however, the ATTs of the ACL deficient knees were significantly larger than those of the intact knees at 0 ∘ ( = 0.002) and 15 ∘ ( = 0.012). It was suggested that the forward lunge, as a weight-bearing closed kinetic chain exercise, provides a safer approach for developing muscle strength and functional stability in rehabilitation program of ACL-deficient knees, in comparison with open kinetic knee extension exercise

    A 21-year-old Man with Delayed Puberty

    Abstract Delayed puberty is defined clinically by the absence or incomplete development of secondary sexual characteristics bounded by an age at which 95 percent of children of that sex and culture have initiated sexual maturation. The upper 95th percentile in the United States for age for boys is 14 (an increase in testicular size being the first sign) and for girls is 12 (breast development being the first sign). Delayed puberty pathophysiologically is classified according to the circulating levels of the gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in to two groups of high serum LH/FSH and low or normal serum LH/FSH concentrations which are related to primary hypogonadism and hypothalamic dysfunction respectively. Patient Presentation. A 21 year old boy presented with severe respiratory distress syndrome due to pneumonia and generalized edema. Laboratory studies showed pancytopenia which made clinicians work up for hematologic disorders, leading to bone marrow aspiration and biopsy which was consistent with megaloblastic anemia resulting from vit B12 deficiency. Another manifestation of this patient was delayed puberty which had been ignored over these years. Evaluation of delayed puberty revealed a low serum LH/FSH concentration. Accompaniment of delayed puberty resulting from hypothalamic origin with edema and hypoalbuminemia made clinicians work up for a malabsorption syndrome. Therefore upper endoscopy and colonoscopy were done and duodenal biopsies were consistent with celiac sprue. The unusual symptom of this patient was vit B12 deficiency which is rare in celiac disease. Conclusion. Neglected celiac sprue can be accompanied by vit B12 deficiency probably because of involvement of more distal parts of small intestine over the time
