    Impact of Study Anxiety Sources on the Grade Achievements of University Students

    Anxiety is a common phenomenon among all kind of learners and university students. Study anxiety has been recognized by students of all educational institutes as they face new atmosphere and people in the campus. The objective of this study is to recognize the sources of study anxiety and then determine the impact of these sources on the grade achievements among university students. The results showed that exam anxiety, subject anxiety, language anxiety, library anxiety, social anxiety and presentation anxiety are sources of study anxiety. All of the sources have a great impact on grade achievements except presentation anxiety. The results proved that anxiety put a high impact on the grade achievements of students and those students who had more anxiety get low marks

    Effectiveness of Tetrachlorodecaoxide Compounds in the Healing of Mandibular Fracture

    Fractures of mandible are more common in fighting dogs or can be occur due to accidents. A dog with similar fracture was presented at Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery (CMS) with dropped jaw, drawling of bloody saliva. Animal was reluctant to eat and was depressed. After critical physical examination, the condition was confirmed as bilateral fracture of the mandibular body. After performing the necessary pre-operative test like complete blood count (CBC), Serum biochemistry and urinalysis, fracture was surgically reduced by using inter-dental wiring technique. Tetrachlorodecaoxide drops (TCDO) (Oxoferin®; Brookes Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Pakistan) were applied on fracture site three to four times /day until recovery. Animal was kept on liquid diet (chicken soup and milk) throughout and semi-solid food after 25 days. The fracture healed uneventfully in just 37 days

    Sepsis management: An evidence-based approach.

    The Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines have outlined an early goal directed therapy (EGDT) which demonstrates a standardized approach to ensure prompt and effective management of sepsis. Having said that, there are barriers associated with the application of evidence-based practice, which often lead to an overall poorer adherence to guidelines. Considering the global burden of disease, data from low- to middle-income countries is scarce. Asia is the largest continent but most Asian countries do not have a well-developed healthcare system and compliance rates to resuscitation and management bundles are as low as 7.6% and 3.5%, respectively. Intensive care units are not adequately equipped and financial concerns limit implementation of expensive treatment strategies. Healthcare policy-makers should be notified in order to alleviate financial restrictions and ensure delivery of standard care to septic patients

    Overcrowding in the emergency departments: challenges and opportunities for improvement

    With the advent of Emergency Medicine, one can observe an increase in the number of Emergency Departments (ED) across the country. However, most EDs struggle due to an overwhelming number of patients. Overcrowding can lead to delays in patient care. For a city like Karachi which is an active disaster zone, preemptive preparedness is required in the face of terror threats and such overcrowding needs to be decreased to a bare minimum. The most frequent causes of prolonged length of stay (LOS) in the ED include non-availability of in-hospital beds, delays in response to subspecialty consultations and escalating medical expenses. All of these can negatively impact patient care by putting patient safety at risk and patient care in jeopardy. There is an increased risk of unintentional medical errors and a concomitant increase in unwanted lawsuits. A few simple interventions which may help alleviate this situation to some extent have been discussed

    Automated Detection of Brain Tumor through Magnetic Resonance Images Using Convolutional Neural Network

    Brain tumor is a fatal disease, caused by the growth of abnormal cells in the brain tissues. Therefore, early and accurate detection of this disease can save patient's life. This paper proposes a novel framework for the detection of brain tumor using magnetic resonance (MR) images. The framework is based on the fully convolutional neural network (FCNN) and transfer learning techniques. The proposed framework has five stages which are preprocessing, skull stripping, CNN-based tumor segmentation, postprocessing, and transfer learning-based brain tumor binary classification. In preprocessing, the MR images are filtered to eliminate the noise and are improve the contrast. For segmentation of brain tumor images, the proposed CNN architecture is used, and for postprocessing, the global threshold technique is utilized to eliminate small nontumor regions that enhanced segmentation results. In classification, GoogleNet model is employed on three publicly available datasets. The experimental results depict that the proposed method is achieved average accuracies of 96.50%, 97.50%, and 98% for segmentation and 96.49%, 97.31%, and 98.79% for classification of brain tumor on BRATS2018, BRATS2019, and BRATS2020 datasets, respectively. The outcomes demonstrate that the proposed framework is effective and efficient that attained high performance on BRATS2020 dataset than the other two datasets. According to the experimentation results, the proposed framework outperforms other recent studies in the literature.     Home Automation and RFID-Based Internet of Things Security: Challenges and Issues

    Internet of Things (IoT) protection refers to the software field related to securing the Internet of Things and associated linked devices and systems. The IoT is a system of interconnected computers, sensors, actuators, or people on the World Wide Web (WWW). All these different devices have a unique identity in the IoT and must convey data across the network automatically. If computers are not adequately secured, allowing them to connect to the Internet exposes them to a range of serious vulnerabilities. Because the consequences of IoT failures are severe, it is necessary to observe and analyze security issues related to IoT. The prime goal of IoT security is to protect personal safety, while also guaranteeing and ensuring accessibility. In the context of IoT technology, the present study conducts a systematic literature review that analyzes the security problems associated with commercial and educational applications of home automation and details the technical possibilities of IoT with respect to the network layer. In this systematic review, we discuss how current contexts result in the inability of designers of IoT devices to enhance their cyber-security initiatives. Typically, application developers are responsible for training themselves to understand recent security advancements. As a result, active participation on the ridge scale with passive improvement can be achieved. A comparative analysis of the literature was conducted. The main objective of this research is to provide an overview of current IoT security research in home automation, particularly those using authentication methods in different devices, and related technologies in radio frequency identification (RFID) on network layers. IoT security issues are addressed, and various security problems in each layer are analyzed.     Relationship between financial inclusion and carbon emissions: International evidence

    The nexus between financial inclusion and carbon emissions is becoming an increasingly important topic, given the augmented awareness of the negative impacts of climate change and carbon emissions on the environment and human health. In this study, we examine the impact of financial inclusion on carbon emissions using the STIRPAT framework for 102 countries from 2004 to 2020. We measure financial inclusion as a composite index, using principal component analysis (PCA) from five financial inclusion proxies. Our robust panel regression estimations suggest an N-Shaped relationship between financial inclusion and carbon emissions. The N-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) implies that the impact of financial inclusion on carbon emission is nonlinear and changes from an inverted U-shaped to a U-shaped. This finding is strong in developing countries and weak in advanced countries. It is also robust across our two normalized measures of financial inclusion as well as across different estimation techniques. These findings suggest adapting a universal environmental strategy that enhances financial inclusion through strong and accessible financial systems, particularly for low-income countries. Our results further suggest that government authorities and policymakers need to develop well-directed and inclusive financial policies that consider the varying levels of governance, regulations, and income across countries

    Detection of central serous retinopathy using deep learning through retinal images

    The human eye is responsible for the visual reorganization of objects in the environment. The eye is divided into different layers and front/back areas; however, the most important part is the retina, responsible for capturing light and generating electrical impulses for further processing in the brain. Several manual and automated methods have been proposed to detect retinal diseases, though these techniques are time-consuming, inefficient, and unpleasant for patients. This research proposes a deep learning-based CSR detection employing two imaging techniques: OCT and fundus photography. These input images are manually augmented before classification, followed by training of DarkNet and DenseNet networks through both datasets. Moreover, pre-trained DarkNet and DenseNet classifiers are modified according to the need. Finally, the performance of both networks on their datasets is compared using evaluation parameters. After several experiments, the best accuracy of 99.78%, the sensitivity of 99.6%, specificity of 100%, and the F1 score of 99.52% were achieved through OCT images using the DenseNet network. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model is effective and efficient for CSR detection using the OCT dataset and suitable for deployment in clinical applications.This work was supported by the Riphah Artificial Intelligence Research (RAIR) Lab, Riphah International University, Faisalabad Campus, Pakistan.     Functional Parathyroid Cyst: A Rare Cause of Malignant Hypercalcemia with Primary Hyperparathyroidism—A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Parathyroid cysts are rare lesions found in the neck and anterior mediastinum. They are often nonfunctional (>90%) and rarely in the functional form. This paper discusses a case of severe hypercalcemia (23 mg/dL) secondary to a rare functional parathyroid cyst. The patient was later found to have a hemorrhagic cyst with compression of the right recurrent laryngeal nerve. Preoperative diagnosis of the lesion was parathyroid carcinoma. However, reexploration of the parathyroid mass along with microscopic study confirmed the diagnosis of a parathyroid cyst. Following cystectomy, the patient restored her baseline functional status with preservation of the right recurrent laryngeal nerve. Postoperative followup three years later showed no evidence of cyst recurrence. This paper illustrates the rare presentation of parathyroid functional cysts with severe hypercalcemia and primary hyperparathyroidism. Physicians should be aware of the presence of hemorrhage, inflammation, and compressive symptoms in these cysts which mimic parathyroid carcinoma. These patients should be managed with aggressive medical and surgical intervention
