Development Of A Chemical Health Risk Assessment Tool To Assess The Risk To Health From Exposure To Hazardous Chemicals

People working in the process industries are exposed to chemicals on a daily basis. Some of these chemicals can cause health disorders or even fatalities depending on its dosage. It is required that all work place be assessed on its risk to health from exposure to chemicals at work. However, the assessment requires competency in the field and takes some time due to the manual steps that need to be taken. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop an application called the Chemical Health Risk Assessment Tool (CHRAT), which is able to determine the risk rating of an exposed chemical at work. CHRAT is developed using Visual Basic (VB) programming language. The development of this software has been divided into four different stages, which are planning the application, building the graphical user interface, writing the computer programme and software validation and verification. The methodology of the project includes determining the hazard rating and exposure rating first before assessing the risk rating. The hazard rating can be done in two ways which are hazard rating based on hazard categories and hazard rating based on risk phrases. The exposure rating is primarily based on the frequency of exposure, the duration of exposure and the intensity or magnitude of exposure. Once the risk rating has been determined, steps are given to provide adequate control measures to control the risk of the exposure to the chemical. The case study result using CHRAT proofs that the software is capable to assess the risk rating of an exposure to hazardous chemical as well as provide adequate control measure if necessary. CHRAT is useful and feasible because it is simple, user-friendly, able to function as a stand-alone application and it is compatible with all windows operating system. Tiivistelmä Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on laatia liiketoimintasuunnitelma vuosi sitten Viroon perustetulle suomalaiselle yritykselle. Yritys tulee myymään ja vuokraamaan maarakennuskoneita. Opinnäytetyö tuli toimeksiantona yrittäjiltä,jotka toivovat saavansa liiketoimintasuunnitelmasta vauhtia liiketoiminnan käynnistämiseen. Liiketoimintasuunnitelman tavoitteena on tuoda esiin yrityksen vahvuudet, joiden avulla liiketoiminta käynnistettäisiin, yritys kasvaisi, kehittyisi ja menestyisi tulevaisuudessa. Tämä opinnäytetyö on toiminnallinen työ ja tutkimusaineisto on koottu teemahaastatteluilla ja kirjoituspöytätutkimuksella. Tutkimuksella pyrittiin selvittämään liiketoimintasuunnitelman sisältöä ja sen kirjoittamista. Liiketoimintasuunnitelma sisältää yrityksen toimintaympäristön analysointia, liikeidean, vision ja strategian, markkinointisuunnitelman,henkilöstösuunnitelman, yrityksen kannattavuuslaskelmat sekä riskit ja niihin varautumisen. Yrittäjää haastattelemalla saatiin olennaista tietoa yrityksestä ja yrittäjistä. Haastatteluilla selvitettiin yrittäjien tavoitteet ja arvot yritykseen liittyen, yritysidea, aika- ja taloudelliset resurssit, yrityksen mahdollisuudet, riskit ja uhat, sekä yritykseen liittyvät vahvuudet ja heikkoudet. Yrityksen perustaminen ja liiketoiminnan aloittaminen rakennusalalla on haasteellista tällä hetkellä yleisen huonon talouden tilanteen vuoksi. Yritys X on jo perustettu, joten toiminta kannattaa käynnistää nyt sesonkikauden alettua. Yritys X voisi ostaa yrittäjien sijoittamalla 10 000 euron pääomalla koneen, laittaa sen myyntiin, sekä vuokrata sitä kunnes kone menee kaupaksi. Koneen osto heti olisi järkevää, koska maanrakennusalan paras toimintakausi maaliskuu- marraskuu on alkanut. Näin koneesta saataisiin suurin hyöty, sijoitus alkaisi tuottaa ja pääoma karttua varsinaista toimintaa varten. Yrityksellä on hyvät mahdollisuudet menestyä, kuten tuloslaskelmastakin näkyy, mutta liiketoiminnan aloittaminen vaatisi työtä ja suhteiden hyödyntämistä. Jos henkilöstö saisi liiketoiminnan käynnistettyä taantuman aikaan, niin nousukauden alkaessa yritys olisi mahdollisesti täydessä toiminnassa ja kasvu voisi alkaa. Tutkimuksen ja haastattelujen pohjalta syntyi opinnäytetyö, jossa on yrityksen käyttöön liiketoimintasuunnitelma ja teoriaosa hyvästä liiketoimintasuunnitelmasta. Työ koottiin vetoketjumallin mukaisesti eli teoria ja yrityksen X liiketoimintasuunnitelma kulkevat yhdessä. Liiketoimintasuunnitelma on laadittu yrittäjille avuksi liiketoiminnan käynnistämiseen ja yrityksen kehittämiseen tulevaisuudessa.Abstract The subject of this thesis is to write a business plan for a starting Finnish company. The company was established in Estonia last year. The company plans to sell and rent construction equipment and machinery. The thesis was commissioned by the entrepreneurs who hope that the business plan would boost starting their business. The business plan aims to highlight the company's strengths, to help launch a business, and to make it possible for the company to grow, develop and succeed in the future. This thesis is a functional study and the research data was collected by using an interview and desk study. The study sought to identify the contents of the business plan. The business plan includes an analysis of the company's business environment, business concept, vision and strategy, marketing plan, human resources plan, the company's profitability calculations, as well as the risks and preparedness. The entrepreneur interviews gave relevant information about the company and the entrepreneurs. The interviews also clarified the objectives and values of the entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial ventures, time and financial resources, the company's possibilities, risks and threats, as well as information related to the company's strengths and weaknesses. Establishing a company and starting a business in the construction industry is challenging at this time due to the general poor economic situation. Company X is already operating, so business should start operating now in high season. A capital of EUR 10 000 could be invested in the machines put on sale and rent it until the machine was going to sell. Machine purchase would make sense in the spring, because from the viewpoint of construction industry the best operating season is from March to November. In this way the machine would gain maximum benefit, and the investment would begin to produce and accumulate capital for the actual operation. The company has a good opportunity of success, as shown in the income statement, but starting a business would require work and networking. If the entrepreneurs were able to get the business running in a recession, then at the beginning of a boom the company should be in full operation and growth could begin. Based on this research and interviews,the thesis was written, including a concrete business plan for the client company and a theoretical framework of a good business plan. Perustajaurakointi on ammattimaisessa osakeasuntojen tuotannossa käytetty järjestelmä, jossa rakennusliike perustaa asunto-osakeyhtiön, toimii itse urakoitsijana ja markkinoi kyseisen yhtiön osakkeita jo rakentamisvaiheessa ulkopuolisille ostajille säilyttäen itsellään määräysvallan koko rakennusvaiheen ajan. Tällaisesta perustajaurakointimallisesta asuntotuotannosta käytetään myös nimitystä gryndituotanto. Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää oikeuskäytännössä määritetty perustajaurakoitsijan eli grynderin virhevastuu ja virhevastuun mahdolliset seuraamukset. Tarkoituksena oli laatia selvitys, jota toimeksiantajana oleva rakennusliike voi hyödyntää. Opinnäytetyö on lainopillinen tutkimus, joka selvittää virhevastuuta lähinnä asuntokauppalaista ja sitä tulkitsevasta kirjallisuudesta. Virhevastuusta johtuvia seuraamuksia on selvitetty lisäksi muutamien oikeuden ja kuluttajariitalautakunnan ratkaisujen valossa. Selvityksen perusteella perustajaurakoitsijan virhevastuuta ei voi vastuunrajoitusehdoin vähentää eikä välttää. A construction company founds a condominium, acts as a contractor and markets the shares of the condominium to purchasers since the beginning of construction while the contractor maintains authority throughout the construction phase. Housing production by a founder contractor is also known as property developing. The aim of the thesis was to study the founder contractor’s judicial liability for the defects and the possible consequences to the founder contractor. The purpose was to compose a review that the commissioning construction company can exploit. The thesis is a judicial study reporting on the liability for defects mainly through the Housing Transactions Act and the literature interpreting the mentioned act. The consequences resulting from the liability for defects are also studied through a few decisions made by Finnish courts and the Consumer Disputes Board. The study showed that the founder contractor’s liability cannot be reduced or avoided by limiting conditions of the liability. The purchaser is also obligated to inspect the apartment and to give a notice of defects in reasonable time. Neglecting the inspection and the notice of defect affect the right to appeal to the circumstances that the purchaser is assumed to be aware of

In the process of research and analysis of legislation on the provisional protection against violence, a number of deficiencies and inaccuracies in the laws and regulations are identified which unduly delay and preclude the full achievement of the goals set by this legal mechanism. In order to understand the significance of provisional protection against violence, it is necessary to clarify the nature of the provisional protection against violence in family legal relations by identifying the fundamental human rights that are protected or affected and limited in the process of application of provisional protection against violence.
