The synthesized compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial activity. Results: The biological data showed that compounds III, VII had strong activities against the Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not activity against fungus.     An adaptive clustering and classification algorithm for Twitter data streaming in Apache Spark

    EVALUATION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL SCREW-RETAINED RETRIEVABLE CROWN VERSUS CONVENTIONAL CROWN DESIGN

    Statement of problem: Removing cemented crowns is usually a complicated procedure that may lead to irreversible damage to the tooth/crown and mostly necessitate remake of crown with added effort for both patient and clinician. Purpose: This in-vitro study evaluated an experimental two-component, screw-retained retrievable crown design in comparison to the conventional design. Materials and methods: A total of 120 extracted maxillary 2nd premolars received root canal treatment and were divided into two groups (n=60 each) according to the crown design they will receive. Gp CC received a threaded modified post, a composite core and a metal coping, while Gp RC received a two-component retrievable crown design. Fracture resistance was assessed by a 90 degrees vertical load to the center of the occlusal surface, using universal testing machine, under a constant crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. Microleakage was assessed by placing specimens in methylene blue dye for 12 hours, sectioning the teeth longitudinally, and then examining the sectioned samples under stereomicroscope. Retrievability testing was conducted by 5 prosthodontists who attempted to uncover and unscrew the posts. Data were statistically evaluated using computer software (SPSS version 17; SPSS Inc.). Results: No significant difference between the 2 designs tested regarding microleakage tests (P=.34) whereas the experimental design, was significantly more resistant to fracture and more retrievable than the conventional one (P\u3e.5). Conclusions: The proposed retrievable crown design showed promising results and may be considered as an option to substitute the conventional design. Further studies are needed to confirm that

    Organic and Inorganic Salts as Postharvest Alternative Control Means of Citrus

    Several postharvest disease control means alternative to conventional chemical fungicides, such as organic and inorganic salts, will be highlighted in the proposed chapter. In particular, it will comprehensively cover different aspects of the use of salts against postharvest Penicillium decay of citrus. It will be an essential resource for the graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, professionals, supply chain players, citrus industries, and retailers. Organic and inorganic salts have a broad spectrum of activity against a wide range of fungi. In addition, they are easy to apply, inexpensive, safe for humans and the environment, and suitable for commercial postharvest handling practices. Different application strategies of salts, before and after harvest, and combined application (with wax, natural compounds, and fungicides, etc.) will be also discussed. The present chapter attempts to highlight how the use of organic and inorganic salts as alternative postharvest disease management technologies has developed from the laboratory to the market

    The effects of SRT, OLR and feed temperature on the performance of membrane bioreactor treating high strength municipal wastewater.

    The effects, of sludge retention time (SRT), feed temperature (Tf) and organic loading rate (OLR) on submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) performance were studied using hollow fibers (nominal pore size 0.4 µm) immersed in an aeration tank. A synthetic wastewater representative of high strength municipal wastewater was used in the study. Ten experimental runs were carried out using full factorial design with three factors and three levels (low, medium and high). These levels were 25, 30 and 35 days for SRT, 20, 30 and 40°C for Tf and 1.73, 4.03 and 6.82 kg COD/m³ d for OLR. Variation of OLR, SRT and Tf affected the biomass development significantly. The higher OLR trials resulted in higher MLVSS/MLSS ratio and also higher increasing rate of MLSS (d(MLSS)/ (dt)). For the low level OLR trials MLVSS/MLSS ratio varied between 75.3 and 82.3% and d(MLSS)/(dt) from 87.5 to 297.3 mg/l.d, whereas, for the high OLR trials they varied between 80.4 and 83.7% and 1355.4-2120.1 mg/l.d respectively. For the higher OLR, a higher aeration rate was applied to fulfill the DO demand. Therefore, for the low level OLR trials, the aeration rate and the DO were varied from 6 to 12 m³/m² membrane area per hour and from 3.7 to 5.7 mg/l, respectively, whilst for the high OLR trials they varied from 6 to 18 m³/m² membrane area/h and from 0.9 to 4.4 mg/l respectively. The permeate COD and NH3-N under different operating conditions varied from 0 to 32 mg/l, and from 0.004 to 0.856 mg/l, respectively. The interaction effects of SRT and Tf on COD removal efficiency was found to be insignificant. Increasing OLR did not affect COD removal. The optimum removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen for the low and high strength wastewater was obtained at operating conditions of high SRT and low Tf. The pH increased significantly in the aeration tank and the increase was well correlated with the feed pH (r² = 0.8336 for low OLR and 0.9106 for high OLR)

    Two field experiments study during 2015 and 2016 summer seasons on sandy loam soil under drip irrigation system by Nile river water, at the Agricultural Research and Production Station National Research Centre, El- Nubaria region, EL- Beheira Governorate,  Egypt. This study focused on the applications of different water deficiency levels (100, 80 and 60% of F.C. i.e. field capacity) and ascorbic acid (AsA) spraying foliar application with different concentrations (0, 50 and 100 ppm) as antioxidant on growth parameters and yield as well as photosynthetic pigments content of summer squash plants (Cucurbitapepo L.cv. Eskandrani). Results indicated that, decreasing water levels caused a significant reduction in the all tested growth and yield parameters, i.e., canopy weight, root weight, number of leaves, leaves fresh weight and leaf area as well as photosynthetic pigments content (total chl., and carotenoids), total yield, fruit weight and length. While increasing ascorbic acid spraying foliar application levels as antioxidant significantly increased the aforementioned parameters in the two seasons as compared with control. On the other hand, decreasing water levels caused a significant increasing in leaf proline content, leaf cell sap osmotic pressure, dry matter % and fruit TSS in the two growing seasons as compared with control.Keywords: water stress, water deficiency, ascorbic acid, antioxidant, growth, yield, summer squash plant and Cucurbita pepo.

    A comparison between Aloe vera and silver sulfadiazine on second-degree burns in local male rabbits: A Histological study

    The present study carried out on fifteen local male rabbits six months in age, the animals divided for three groups five animals for each, after general anesthesia of all animals, the thoracic region was exposed for three seconds to 2 cm2 wide electrical heating rod to reach second-degree burn. The first group exposed to Vaseline only as a sham control group, second group exposed to silver sulfadiazine cream 0.2% and third group exposed to the Aloe vera (85%), all groups treated continuously once time for fifteen days, and specimens collected from affected area during 5,10 and 15 days after treatment for histopathological evaluations. The results of the study revealed semi like frequent healing process in all groups after five days, whereas at the ten days after treatment the second and third groups showed noticeable healing processes than control group, while at fifteen days from treatment the animals treated with Aloe vera showed approximately complete healing process characterized by presence of thick keratinized layer with profuse collagen in the dermis as well as new formation of hair follicle with noticeable hyperplasia of epidermal layers when compared with second and first groups

    Relationships between the Parity and Pelvimetry of Egyptian Buffalo Cows: Prediction of Dystocia and Estimation of Age

    Background: The current study aimed to determine the most strongly correlated variable of pelvimetry with the parity in our native breed Egyptian buffaloes. Methods: The study was conducted on 36 female buffaloes (nullipara, n=14, primipara n=6 and pluripara, n=16 with 2-4 births) aged between <15 months, n=15 and 65 months, n=21. The internal and external pelvic measurements were obtained using the rice pelvimeter and Freeman’s measuring tape. Results: Strong positive linear relationships were found for the distance between ischiatic tuberosities and the distance between sacral tubercles with the correlation coefficients of 0.64 and 0.62, respectively. The conjugate diameter increased progressively with the age and number of births, with a correlation coefficient of 0.96. The pelvic area had a very strong positive linear relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.89. The linear combination of the predictor variable (conjugate diameter), to predict the number of birth was developed successfully. Conclusion: The strong relationship between the conjugate diameter and the number of births could be employed to predict the dystocia and estimate the age of female buffalo. Furthermore, these findings could be aid paleontologists in studying buffalo fossils

    Enhancing Oil Removal from Water using Ferric Oxide Nanoparticles Doped Carbon Nanotubes Adsorbents

    Oil contaminated water is one of the challenges in water resources management. It is crucial to remove the oil droplets from water in order to meet the discharge regulations set by the environmental authorities. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have generated a lot of attention as a new type of adsorbent due to their exceptionally high adsorption capacity for oil–water separation. The high hydrophobicity of CNTs makes them good candidates to enhance the de-oiling process from wastewater. In this study, we have reported the synthesis and evaluation of novel iron-oxide/CNTs nanocomposites for oil–water separation. The CNTs were doped with different loadings of iron oxide nanoparticles using a wet impregnation technique. The synthesized nanocomposite nanomaterials were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) technique, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effect of adsorption parameters, including, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and agitation speed on the oil removal efficiency were optimized using batch experiments. The sorption capacities of doped CNTs were found to be greater than 7 g/g for gasoline oil. The doped CNTs reached maximum sorption capacity after only 15 min providing one of the fastest minimum contact times reported of all oil sorbent materials. The loading of Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the negative surface of CNT decreases the negative sign and magnitude of the zeta potential by overcoming the repulsive effects of the electrical double layers to allow the finely sized oil droplets to form larger droplets through coalescence. Therefore increasing percentage of the Fe2O3 on the surface of CNT increased the removal of the emulsified oil from the water
