Sensor Data Fusion using Unscented Kalman Filter for VOR-based Vision Tracking System for Mobile Robots

    Get PDF
This paper presents sensor data fusion using Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) to implement high performance vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) based vision tracking system for mobile robots. Information from various sensors is required to be integrated using an efficient sensor fusion algorithm to achieve a continuous and robust vision tracking system. We use data from low cost accelerometer, gyroscope, and encoders to calculate robot motion information. The Unscented Kalman Filter is used as an efficient sensor fusion algorithm. The UKF is an advanced filtering technique which outperforms widely used Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) in many applications. The system is able to compensate for the slip errors by switching between two different UKF models built for slip and no-slip cases. Since the accelerometer error accumulates with time because of the double integration, the system uses accelerometer data only for the slip case UKF model. Using sensor fusion by UKF, the position and orientation of the robot is estimated and is used to rotate the camera mounted on top of the robot towards a fixed target. This concept is derived from the vestibule-ocular reflex (VOR) of the human eye. The experimental results show that the system is able to track the fixed target in various robot motion scenarios including the scenario when an intentional slip is generated during robot navigation

Pengaruh Jumlah Sekat Filter Udara sebagai Upaya Meningkatkan Performance Mesin Diesel

    Get PDF

Investigating the performance of a combined solar system with heat pump for houses

    Get PDF
The UK government has committed to generate 20% of the country's energy from renewable sources by 2020. This paper investigates energy reduction in houses by using an innovative solar thermal collector combined with a heat pump system. The dynamic lumped parameter model for a small house is derived and the combined heating system is used to provide the typical hot water and heating requirement. The goal is to maintain thermal comfort inside the house and reduce the amount of electricity consumption used for heating and hot water. This is achieved by reducing the electricity costs through optimising the operation of the heat pump, integrating the available solar energy, and by shifting electricity consumption to the cheaper night time tariff. Models of conventional controller on–off and a multi-variable model predictive control (MPC) are developed and used for several different climatic conditions. The results showed that the model predictive controller performed best by providing better comfort, consuming less electric energy and better use of cheap night time electricity by load shifting and storing heat energy in the heating tank

Herrin, a simple and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of silver nanowires (Ag-NWs) has been reported. Silver nanowires were synthesized using Psidium guajava seed extract that acted as a reducing agent as well as a stabilizing agent for silver nitrate solution. Synthesis was carried out at 50 °C temperature under continuous UV-irradiation. Silver nanowires were initially characterized by a UV-visible and FTIR spectrophotometer. In addition, morphology and particle size of synthesized Ag-NWs were determined using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Nanowires were found to have 12.8 μm length and 200–500 nm diameter and cubic phase morphology. Furthermore, the catalytic potential of Ag-NWs for the degradation of methyl orange dye (MO) was determined. The selected dye was degraded successfully that confirmed the catalytic potential of Ag-NWs. The authors concluded that Ag-NWs can be synthesized using plant extract having excellent morphological features as well as impressive catalytic potential

Water use efficient varieties in rice may have good opportunity in term of economic value and scarcity of water. This study was conducted to determine water consumption among rice genotypes that conventionally cultivated as low land (IR64, IPB97-F-15, Ciherang, Mentik Wangi, and Rokan hybrid), up land (Jatiluhur, Silugonggo), and amphibian type (Way Apo Buru, that could be planted both as lowland and up land). Rice seedlings at 14 days old were transplanted in a plastic container containing 83 kg of air dried soil, 1 plant per whole and 6 plants per container. The experiment was conducted in a vinyl house, using randomized complete block design with three replications. During rice growth, water table was maintained at 2 cm above soil surface, and water was added and recorded weekly. The results showed that varieties reveal production components and yield were different significantly. Water consumptions among varieties were significantly different, ranged from 15.93 L plant-1 for IR64 to 24.13 L plant-1 for Jatiluhur, or equal with 3,639 to 4,827 m3 ha-1. Jatiluhur was the most efficient variety in using water. This finding may guide us to explore benefit of water use efficient variety as sustainable option in water management of rice cultivation
