The advent of the Internet has transformed the way in which people work and live. While the Internet has offered many advantages and benefits to the workplace particularly in terms of speeding up information search, it also has potential drawbacks. One drawback is that people can misuse the Internet while at work. This phenomenon, which is called cyberdeviance, is a form of production deviance. As our theoretical understanding of cyberdeviance is still limited, this study attempts to investigate the role of HR practices and leadership style in cyberdeviant activities. It also seeks to examine the mediating influence of job satisfaction , with the application of social exchange theory. A survey of 273 administrative employees in in four universities in Amman, Jordan who were randomly selected using a cluster technique, was carried out for the period of five months from February until June 2011. Frequency, descriptive statistics, correlation, multiple regression, and hierarchical regression analyses were run to test the research hypotheses. Factor analyses revealed four dimensions of HR practices, i.e., performance appraisal, compensation practice, career advancement, and employment security. Leadership style produced a single dimension labelled supportive leadership style, while job satisfaction yielded two dimensions, namely, satisfaction with pay, and satisfaction with workload. Results showed that performance appraisal and leadership style were significantly and negatively related to cyberdeviance, contrary to expectation. But collectively, the predictor variables of dimensions of HR practices and leadership were found to explain 63.8% of variance in cyberdeviance. Two dimensions of job satisfaction, satisfaction with pay and satisfaction with workload, partially mediated the link between leadership style and cyberdeviance. But satisfaction with pay was found to partially mediate performance appraisal and cyberdeviance. lt is recommended that organizations implement a good performance appraisal system and demonstrate supportive leadership as ways to reduce cyberdeviance at work

Seven isolates of Beauveria bassiona were screened for pathogenicity and infectivity at a concentration of 5x107 conidia mL-1 against Attevo sciodoxa at 27±2°C and 75±5% relative humidity with 12 h photoperiod. Based on screening results, isolates Bba-Pp and FS-11 were further bioassayed at 1 x 106, 5x106 and 1x107 conidia mL-1. All the isolates were found to be pathogenic. However, the infectivity varied significantly among the isolates. The earliest mortality was recorded three days after inoculation, The most virulent isolate, Bba-Pp, caused 100% mortality with a median infective time (ET50) of 3.6 days on day seven following inoculation while FS-11 caused 83,3% mortality with an ET50 value of 4.1 days, Bba-S13 was the least infective isolate with 24.9% mortality and 15.3 days of median effective time. Mycelia appeared on 24 to 48 h old cadavers, The highest level of sporulation on two-week old cadavers was 150.6x105 Bba-Pp conidia mg -1 cadaver while the lowest was 12.23x105 Bba-S13 conidia. The median effective concentration (EC50) of Bba-Pp was 9.89x105 conidia mL-1 while that of FS-11 was 3.85x106 conidia mL-1. The ET50 values 1x106 1x107 conidia mL-1 of Bba-Pp ranged between 7.0 and 4.4 days, respectively, while that of FS-11 were 10.3 and 5.8 days. A strong negative correlation was found between inoculum concentrations and food consumption (R2 = -0.99). The infection by Bba-Pp and FS-11I resulted in 55.8 to 72.5% reduction in food consumption by A. sciodoxa compared to the controls

Linear active control algorithm to synchronize a nonlinear HIV/AIDS dynamical system

    Get PDF
Chaos synchronization between two chaotic systems happens when the trajectory of one of the system asymptotically follows the trajectory of another system due to forcing or due to coupling. This research paper addresses the synchronization problem of an In-host Model for HIV/AIDS dynamics using the Linear Active Control Technique. In this study, using the Linear Active Control Algorithm based on the Lyapunov stability theory, the synchronization between two identical HIV/AIDS chaotic systems and the switching synchronization between two different HIV/AIDS and Qi 4-D chaotic systems has been observed. Further, it has been shown that the proposed schemes have excellent transient performance and analytically as well as graphically found that the synchronization is globally exponential stable.Numerical simulations are carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach that support the analytical results and illustrated the possible scenarios for synchronization. All simulations have been done using Mathematica 9

Internet misuse at work in Jordan: Challenges and implications

    Get PDF
The Internet has undoubtedly transformed our lives—both at the personal and professional levels. What happens when the Internet is used simultaneously for personal purposes but during work or professional time? This paper seeks to argue that such interaction is one of the challenges that organizations are facing today. We intend to discuss the phenomenon of Internet misuse at work with specific reference to Jordan. As one of the only two countries in the Middle East that has fully liberalized the telecommunications sector, the growing Internet penetration in the country is not without risks. Internet misuse is one likely consequence of the liberalization policy. In this paper, we seek to explain what Internet misuse is, how it is problematic to organizations and how it can be addressed. Though the problem of Internet misuse is not unique to Jordan, we argue that effective measures to tackle the issue are likely to be appropriate to some extent for other countries facing a similar problem

    Get PDF
Social media is an important communication tool, which has substantially changed the way people interact with each other. Its potential use in a learning environment in higher educational institutions has also been debated. If its potential advantage in an academic environment is to be materialized, we need to know the extent university students use the new tool for academic purposes, which is largely unexplored in Malaysia. In this study, we explored the patterns of social media use for academic purposes of 227 business students in one public university in Malaysia. Using descriptive analyses, we observed that majority of our sampled students had Facebook account, further confirming the use of Facebook as the most popular social media platform across the world. Our finding roughly showed that the general level of use was rather high. We showed that female students used more frequently social media than male students. It was encouraging to observe that business students in our sample tended to use social media quite frequently for academic purposes. In general, our findings suggest the potential value of integrating social media in learning activities, as an important learning tool to enhance students‟ learning experience. Implications of the study for practice and recommendations for future research are offered

A study on cryogenic supercritical carbon dioxide coolant delivery technique when machining of AISI 1045 steel

    Get PDF
The machining operation involves a material removal process and develop high temperature due to the friction force. The heat generated at the region of cutting edge has critical influences on machining process. It can increase cutting tool wear, reduce tool life, get rise to thermal deformation and might consequence to microcracks. The application of cutting fluid at the cutting zone by conventional process could overcomes the aforementioned problems to some extent via cooling and lubrication process. However, the waste of cutting fluid might be profuse and its impact on the environment. A new efficient process, cryogenic cooling using carbon dioxide gas (CO2) has been introduced on improving the cooling process. This technique is more economical in coolant usage while maintaining significant performance including cutting temperature, cutting force and surface roughness. The pulse mode of CO2 cooling spray under supercritical state has been used to corroborate the machining process by reducing the cutting zone temperature as to reducing coolant usage
