“EVOLUCION CLINICA Y RADIOGRAFICA DE LAS FRACTURAS DIAFISARIAS DE TIBIA FRAGMENTADAS MANEJADAS CON CIRUGIA MINIMA INVASIVA”

    Get PDF

Antimicrobial Resistance in Pasteurellaceae Isolates from Pyrenean Chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica) and Domestic Sheep in an Alpine Ecosystem

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has spread worldwide due to the inappropriate use of antimicrobial drugs in human and veterinary medicine, becoming a public health problem. However, little is known about its occurrence and maintenance in wild animals, and very few studies have been carried out in ecosystems subjected to low human pressure. In our study, nasal and lung swabs were collected from hunted Pyrenean chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica), and nasal swabs from sympatric domestic sheep were also collected. The swabs were cultured in agar plates to obtain bacterial isolates from the Pasteurellaceae family. The presence of AMR was assessed in a total of 28 Pasteurellaceae isolates from 45 Pyrenean chamois, and 9 isolates from sympatric domestic sheep found in the National Hunting Reserve of Freser-Setcases (Northeastern Pyrenees, Spain). The isolates belonged to one of the following three species: Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica and Bibersteinia trehalosi. Some P. multocida and M. haemolytica isolates tested positive for AMR. The statistical analysis revealed no differences between the AMR levels from chamois and domestic sheep isolates. However, one P. multocida of chamois origin presented resistance to cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones, which are antibiotics of critical importance for human health. Further studies are required to elucidate potential routes of dissemination of AMR genes in natural environments and assess any significant persistence in wildlife to design risk mitigation actions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The cytoskeletal motor proteins Dynein and MyoV direct apical transport of Crumbs

Crumbs (Crb in Drosophila; CRB1-3 in mammals) is a transmembrane determinant of epithelial cell polarity and a regulator of Hippo signalling. Crb is normally localized to apical cell-cell contacts, just above adherens junctions, but how apical trafficking of Crb is regulated in epithelial cells remains unclear. We use the Drosophila follicular epithelium to demonstrate that polarized trafficking of Crb is mediated by transport along microtubules by the motor protein Dynein and along actin filaments by the motor protein Myosin-V (MyoV). Blocking transport of Crb-containing vesicles by Dynein or MyoV leads to accumulation of Crb within Rab11 endosomes, rather than apical delivery. The final steps of Crb delivery and stabilisation at the plasma membrane requires the exocyst complex and three apical FERM domain proteins – Merlin, Moesin and Expanded – whose simultaneous loss disrupts apical localization of Crb. Accordingly, a knock-in deletion of the Crb FERMbinding motif (FBM) also impairs apical localization. Finally, overexpression of Crb challenges this system, creating a sensitized background to identify components involved in cytoskeletal polarization, apical membrane trafficking and stabilisation of Crb at the apical domain.Funded by the Francis Crick Institute and the Australian National University

    Flexible Wing

Flutter is an interesting phenomenon that consists of a certain component in a system vibrating at an uncontrollable frequency. Aircraft, due to the circumstances they usually encounter, tend to present this physical condition. Throughout history, aircraft manufacturers have studied flutter and generated models for their particular designs. However, no general analyses and methodologies have been developed for flutter. To conduct this research, a wing was designed and constructed to study excessive vibrations and aeroelastic behaviors, required for flexible flight controls. First, it was necessary to perform material testing to define the best dimensions of each component of the wing. Destructive tests were performed to determine the stiffness and flexibility of naked foam, naked foam with epoxy, and a sandwich composite component made of carbon fiber and foam. Next, the main wing was constructed and placed into the wind tunnel. During testing, flutter was developed when the fan blades were rotating at a speed of 300 rpm. The wing generated rapid and unnatural upward and downward motions, deflecting at a precise frequency until the whole system failed. Unfortunately, this part of the experiment occurred too quickly, so it was not possible to gather enough data. For that reason, this experiment needs to be performed again in a more controlled environment. Furthermore, additional material testing is currently being done to improve the wing structure before the wing is tested again

The Image Of A 21st Century Educator As Perceived By Stakeholders

    Get PDF
This study was conducted to point out the desirable traits and attributes expected of a 21st century teacher in the view of stakeholders in order for the different educational bodies to plan, design, and implement teacher development programs that would not only promote the practice of skills and the new ways of approaching teaching but also the development of the teachers as persons interacting with the various stakeholders of education. This study was descriptive in nature. The researchers distributed a survey checklist as measuring instruments in collecting data to determine the traits and attributes that a teacher of 21st century should possess. A survey checklist was used to gather data about the traits and attributes of a 21st century teacher from the points of view of the stakeholders.Based from the data gathered a 21st century teacher should be smart, well-mannered and disciplined, open-minded in the way he/she thinks, confident in talking, creative and responsible in her work, understanding in the way he/she deals with others, respectful in dealing with students, and is patient.A teacher should also know how to react when faced with some academic situations. A 21st century teacher should consider as a good opportunity to enhance teaching skills when he/she is assigned to handle a multicultural class. Furthermore, he /she should cheer up and challenged when a coached team fails to win in a competition. The teacher should also review the weak areas, and help in improving the school performance in the event that the school’s over-all performance in accreditation is falling. The teacher will also observe a colleague when he/she violates school rules and policies; when a superior reprimands a colleague, the teacher consoles him/her

Auxiliary System for Chemical and Production Data Analysis: ANAGEOT

This paper describes a computational tool developed to aid the analysis of chemical, isotopic and production data of geothermal wells. ANAGEOT is an interactive and user-friendly software that allows quickly and efficient manner, modification, retrieval and visualization of the wide amounts of data involved in the study of reservoirs. ANAGEOT optimizes time and resources, due to high quantity of historical data of most of the wells of various petroleum and geothermal fields which involve information sometimes of very long time periods. The system has the flexibility to work with different fields, considering a database for each one A very important feature of this tool is that the reports, charts and graphs are generated in a way which can be edited at any time. Similarly these can be used as source files for other applications, because they are generated in wide commercial use applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Golden Grapher

    Constant time algorithms for ROLLO-I-128

In this work, we propose different techniques that can be used to implement the ROLLO, and partially RQC, family of algorithms in a standalone, efficient and constant time library. For simplicity, we focus our attention on one specific instance of this family, ROLLO-I-128. For each of these techniques, we present explicit code (with intrinsics when required), or pseudo-code and performance measures to show their impact. More precisely, we use a combination of original and known results and describe procedures for Gaussian reduction of binary matrices, generation of vectors of given rank, multiplication with lazy reduction and inversion of polynomials in a composite Galois field. We also carry out a global performance analysis to show the impact of these improvements on ROLLO-I-128. Through the SUPERCOP framework, we compare it to other 128-bit secure KEMs in the NIST competition. To our knowledge, this is the first optimized full constant time implementation of ROLLO-I-128

A model of the spatio-temporal dynamics of drosophila eye disc development

    Get PDF
Patterning and growth are linked during early development and have to be tightly controlled to result in a functional tissue or organ. During the development of the Drosophila eye, this linkage is particularly clear: the growth of the eye primordium mainly results from proliferating cells ahead of the morphogenetic furrow (MF), a moving signaling wave that sweeps across the tissue from the posterior to the anterior side, that induces proliferating cells anterior to it to differentiate and become cell cycle quiescent in its wake. Therefore, final eye disc size depends on the proliferation rate of undifferentiated cells and on the speed with which the MF sweeps across the eye disc. We developed a spatio-temporal model of the growing eye disc based on the regulatory interactions controlled by the signals Decapentaplegic (Dpp), Hedgehog (Hh) and the transcription factor Homothorax (Hth) and explored how the signaling patterns affect the movement of the MF and impact on eye disc growth. We used published and new quantitative data to parameterize the model. In particular, two crucial parameter values, the degradation rate of Hth and the diffusion coefficient of Hh, were measured. The model is able to reproduce the linear movement of the MF and the termination of growth of the primordium. We further show that the model can explain several mutant phenotypes, but fails to reproduce the previously observed scaling of the Dpp gradient in the anterior compartmen

El objetivo de investigación fue explorar las causas que originan apatía, desmotivación, desinte-rés, desgano y falta de participación en adolescentes mexicanos. Participaron 200 adolescentesde 13 a 15 años, hombres y mujeres.
