An assessment method for GIS-T software

    Get PDF
The objective of the research work summarized in this paper was to develop a method to assess, concerning its functional and performance characteristics, GIS software applied to transportation planning (the so-called GIS-T packages). Three computer packages were compared with the developed procedure, which focuses on several characteristics: descriptive aspects (e.g., learning time and customization possibilities, among others), basic GIS operational characteristics, advanced GIS features, and transportation planning routines. In order to conduct a more effective analysis of their potential as a transportation planning tool they were all applied for finding a solution of a problem involving the calculation of a simple, straightforward accessibility measure. The results found suggest that all three systems comply with the minimum configuration desired for GIS software. However, only two of them fit in the GIS-T category, since the third one did not supply the main necessary tools to solve the specific transportation problem proposed

The optimization of MgB2 superconducting properties is extremely important for practical application. The introduction of an effective artificial pinning center in this material can enhance its critical current density efficiently. In this paper, VB2 is described as a material that provides effective pinning in the MgB2 bulks. The simultaneous addition of SiC as a carbon source is also analyzed. The samples were prepared using ball milling under a controlled atmosphere and heat treatment with a continuous argon flux. As a result, the superconducting properties could be optimized due to the effective improvement in the pinning behavior as well as with the carbon doping.Fil: Da Silva, L.B.S.. ABSTRACT. In this article, we aim to analyze the field education project of the Escola Família Agrícola in the city of Veredinha (MG) and, from it, discuss the contributions to the subjects that make up the community; and, to contribute to the discussion about the role of geography teaching in rural education projects. The methodological procedures involve the realization of a specialization course monograph, including research and bibliographical study, document analysis and systematic observation. We indicate as contributions the capacity of mobilization and social organization of the farmers and the pedagogical alternation, which reverberate in the educational spaces and are consolidated with young people active in the region. EFAV contributes to the production of territories of resistance, with significant changes in regional dynamics. We conclude by pointing out that the EFAV was created to guarantee access to secondary and technical education for young people in the countryside, but it has advanced in a pedagogical and political proposal that meets the interests of the subjects in the countryside. To this end, it involved popular mobilization and also the articulation of different social organizations. The school itself mobilized educational and political processes that mobilized and raised awareness among communities and farmers.ABSTRACT.

    Get PDF

Sesame crops have large economic potential; however, the scarcity of good quality water in the Semiarid region of the Northeast of Brazil can affect production systems, which requires the search for cultivars that can better be adapted to the local conditions. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the germination dynamics of sesame seed lots subjected to different electrical conductivities of the imbibition solution. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Seeds and Seedling Analysis of the Federal University of Campina Grande, Pombal campus, Paraíba, Brazil. A completely randomized design was used, in an 8×6 factorial arrangement, corresponding to eight seed lots (BRS Seda; BRS Seda (S2); BRS G2 (S1); BRS G2 (S2); BRS G3 (S1); BRS G3 (S2); BRS G4 (S1) and BRS G4 (S2), where S1 and S2 represent the grown environments, saline (2.4 dS m-1) and non-saline, respectively; and six electrical conductivities of the imbibition solution (0.3; 1.2; 2.1; 3.0; 3.9; and 4.8 dS m-¹), with four replications. The variables seed germination, vigor, germination speed index, mean time for germination, mean germination speed, and radicle length were evaluated. The sesame seeds are sensitive to salinity, regardless of the lot analyzed and their germination power decreases when they are subjected to high salt concentrations.Sesame crops have large economic potential; however, the scarcity of good quality water in the Semiarid region of the Northeast of Brazil can affect production systems, which requires the search for cultivars that can better be adapted to the local conditions.
