Cryogenic Flange and Seal Evaluation
The assembly of flanges, seals, and pipes are used to carry cryogenic fluid from a storage tank to the vehicle at launch sites. However, after a certain amount of cycles these raised face flanges with glass-filled Teflon gaskets have been found to have torque relaxation and are as a result susceptible to cryogenic fluid leakage if not re-torqued. The intent of this project is to identify alternate combinations of flanges and seals which may improve thermal cycle performance and decrease re-torque requirements. The general approach is to design a test fixture to evaluate leak characteristics between spiral and concentric serrations and to test alternate flange and seal combinations. Due to insufficient time, it was not possible to evaluate these different types of combinations for the combination that improved thermal cycle performance the most. However, the necessary drawings for the test fixture were designed and assembled along with the collection of the necessary parts

The present paper shows the inherent complexity of classifying aggression not only because this construct is already ambiguous in itself and presents various dimensions and shades, but also because researchers and specialists in this field use their own concepts and typology of aggression which could make reference to the some epistemological reality but naming it in a different way. With this intention in mind, we describe the different types of aggression that specialists in this field have been offering to the scientific community during the last decades. Starting with the awareness of this complexity, we offer a dichotomic model of aggression fundamentally based on the analysis of the basic motivation of the aggressor. According to this perspective, the aggressive behaviours manifested in the different community settings, could polarize in two basic structures: reactive and proactive. To this, we sum the psychopatho(bio)logical correlates which support these two dimensions, as well as the utility of the self-reports in order to analyse the hidden motivation of the aggressor using two different inventories: (CAMA y RPQ). Finally, we question the usefulness of this theoretical model to shed light on the motivation of aggressive behavior through different self-report instruments

Regulations of The Mitochondrial Quality Control Pathway PINK1/Parkin Using Chemical Biology
Monitoring mitochondrial health is important to maintain proper cellular health. Dysreg- ulation has been implicated in a myriad of diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s Disease. A subset of familial Parkinson’s Disease patients were found to have muta- tions in two mitochondrial quality control proteins, PINK1 and Parkin. These proteins will patrol for damaged mitochondria, and cause selective repair, whole degradation through mitophagy, or apoptosis. I employed a chemical biology approach to study this pathway.
First, profiling of a panel of small molecules showed that dual inhibition of Complex III and V predicted activation of Parkin. From this panel, the small molecule Chloro-Urea mimicked the PINK1 stabilization, mitochondrial depolarization, and recruitment of mitophagy factors seen with Antimycin A and Oligomycin. Direct modulation of mitochondrial complex III coupled with chemical inhibition of complex V mirrored the mitochondrial stress and Parkin activation seen with Chloro-Urea and Antimycin A and Oligomycin. Taken together, this provides evidence for a physiological mechanism of Parkin activity in monitoring mitochondrial complex health.
Second, I show cannabidiol causes dose-dependent mitochondrial stress leading to PINK1/Parkin activation. This activity from CBD was seen to be uniquely sensitive to cyclosporine A, a mito- chondrial permeability transition pore inhibitor. CBD also cause an increase in the generation of mitochondrial derived vesicle formation, a Parkin dependent repair pathway. CBD is shown to induce dose dependent mitochondrial damage at the dose presented here, while the repair pathway hints at the possible therapeutic benefits seen under other contexts. This research could help inform work and efforts as CBD is increasingly explored in the clinic.
Finally, a high-throughput screen of small molecules identified 7 high interest candidates that to varying degrees blocked PINK1/Parkin activation at 20μM or less. This panel of inhibitors exhibited varying effects on mitochondrial depolarization, Parkin inhibition from varying mitochon- drial stressors, and reproducibility across multiple cell lines. This diverse set of new PINK1/Parkin inhibitors could prove useful in the future as potential tools to rapidly and easily manipulate this pathway, as well as potentially sharing mechanistic properties across the compounds that could give new insight into this pathway.</p
Finalmente,
se brindan recomendaciones para estudios posteriores.Tesi
Silver-Copper Oxide Heteronanostructures for the Plasmonic-Enhanced Photocatalytic Oxidation of n-Hexane in the Visible-NIR Range
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are recognized as hazardous contributors to air pollution, precursors of multiple secondary byproducts, troposphere aerosols, and recognized contributors to respiratory and cancer-related issues in highly populated areas. Moreover, VOCs present in indoor environments represent a challenging issue that need to be addressed due to its increasing presence in nowadays society. Catalytic oxidation by noble metals represents the most effective but costly solution. The use of photocatalytic oxidation has become one of the most explored alternatives given the green and sustainable advantages of using solar light or low-consumption light emitting devices. Herein, we have tried to address the shortcomings of the most studied photocatalytic systems based on titania (TiO2) with limited response in the UV-range or alternatively the high recombination rates detected in other transition metal-based oxide systems. We have developed a silver-copper oxide heteronanostructure able to combine the plasmonic-enhanced properties of Ag nanostructures with the visible-light driven photoresponse of CuO nanoarchitectures. The entangled Ag-CuO heteronanostructure exhibits a broad absorption towards the visible-near infrared (NIR) range and achieves total photo-oxidation of n-hexane under irradiation with different light-emitting diodes (LEDs) specific wavelengths at temperatures below 180 °C and outperforming its thermal catalytic response or its silver-free CuO illuminated counterpart
Development of an amperometric biosensor based on peroxidases from Brassicas napus for the determination of Ochratoxin a content in peanut samples
An amperometric biosensor based on Brassica napus hairy roots peroxidases (BHRP) to determine ochratoxin A (OTA) is proposed by the first time. The enzymatic reaction rate was studied under different experimental conditions and the kinetics parameters were determined. The method employs a dialysis membrane covered, peroxidases entrapped and ferrocene-embedded carbon paste electrode (BHRP-Fc-CP) and is based on the decrease in the amount of H2O2 produced by the action of BHRP is proportional to the concentration of oxidised OTA in solution. BHRP-Fc-CP biosensors showed a very good stability during at least five days. The reproducibility and the repeatability were 7.7% and 5.4%, respectively, showing a good biosensor performance. Comparison between intra and inter assays showed a good accuracy. The calibration curve was linear in the OTA concentration range from 1 x 10-8 to 1.4 x 10-4 mol L-1. The lowest concentration experimentally measured for a signal to noise ratio of 3:1 was 5.7x10-9 mol L-1.Fil: Ramirez, Eduardo Alejandro. Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto. Se llegó a clasificar a los productos según los ingresos que estos generan y a partir de estos poder elaborar una proyección de la demanda para verificar las futuras ventas de estos productos
Effect of zeolite topology and reactor configuration on the direct conversion of CO2 to light olefins and aromatics
The direct transformation of CO2 into high-value-added hydrocarbons (i.e., olefins and aromatics) has the potential to make a decisive impact in our society. However, despite the efforts of the scientific community, no direct synthetic route exists today to synthesize olefins and aromatics from CO2 with high productivities and low undesired CO selectivity. Herein, we report the combination of a series of catalysts comprising potassium superoxide doped iron oxide and a highly acidic zeolite (ZSM-5 and MOR) that directly convert CO2 to either light olefins (in MOR) or aromatics (in ZSM-5) with high space–time yields (STYC2-C4= = 11.4 mmol·g–1·h–1; STYAROM = 9.2 mmol·g–1·h–1) at CO selectivities as low as 12.8% and a CO2 conversion of 49.8% (reaction conditions: T = 375 °C, P = 30 bar, H2/CO2 = 3, and 5000 mL·g–1·h–1). Comprehensive solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance characterization of the zeolite component reveals that the key for the low CO selectivity is the formation of surface formate species on the zeolite framework. The remarkable difference in selectivity between the two zeolites is further rationalized by first-principles simulations, which show a difference in reactivity for crucial carbenium ion intermediates in MOR and ZSM-5
