Method and System for Name Resolution Across Heterogeneous Architectures
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for resolving a name request in a network comprising a plurality of groups that use different name-resolution schemes. During operation, the system receives, at a first group, the name request; identifies a parent group of the first group, which is a member of the parent group; and in response to failing to resolve the name request within the first group, forwards the name request to the identified parent group
Case Report Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine with ATP1A2 and Prothrombin Gene Mutations
Background. Hemiplegic migraine is a rare type of migraine that may present in children and adolescents. Both familial and sporadic hemiplegic migraines have similar prevalence and clinical characteristics. Patient. We report an adolescent with sporadic hemiplegic migraine who previously had a similar attack in the past and who was initially evaluated for a possible acute ischemic event. Results. Magnetic resonance angiography showed dilatation of the left middle cerebral artery that resolved in a follow-up study. She was also found to have a ATP1A2 (c.2273 G>C) mutation and a heterozygous prothrombin mutation. Conclusions. We suggest that patients with sporadic hemiplegic migraine be tested for both ATP1A2 mutations which in some cases may be pathogenic, and prothrombin mutations which increase the stroke risk for this patient population
The Role of Levetiracetam in Treatment of Seizures in Brain Tumor Patients
Levetiracetam, trade name Keppra, is a new second generation antiepileptic drug that is being increasingly used in brain tumor patients. In patients suffering with brain tumors, seizures are one of the leading neurologic complications being seen in more than 30% of patients. Unlike other antiepileptic drugs, levetiracetam is proposed to bind to a synaptic vesicle protein inhibiting calcium release. Brain tumor patients are frequently on chemotherapy or other drugs that induce cytochrome P450, causing significant drug interactions. However, levetiracetam does not induce the P450 system and does not exhibit any relevant drug interactions. Intravenous delivery is as bioavailable as the oral medication allowing it to be used in emergency situations. Levetiracetam is an attractive option for brain tumor patients suffering from seizures, but also can be used prophylactically in patients with brain tumors, or patients undergoing neurological surgery. Emerging studies have also demonstrated that levetiracetam can increase the sensitivity of Glioblastoma tumors to the chemotherapy drug temozolomide. Levetiracetam is a safe alternative to conventional antiepileptic drugs and an emerging tool for brain tumor patients combating seizures
Cu-Doped KCl folded and unfolded band structure and optical properties studied by DFT calculations
We computed the optical properties and the folded and unfolded band structure
of Cu-doped KCl crystals. The calculations use the plane-wave pseudo-potential
approach implemented in the ABINIT electronic structure package within the
first-principles density-functional theory framework. Cu substitution into
pristine KCl crystals requires calculation by the supercell (SC) method from a
theoretical perspective. This procedure shrinks the Brillouin zone, resulting
in a folded band structure that is difficult to interpret. To solve this
problem and gain insight into the effect of cuprous ion (Cu+) on electronic
properties; We unfolded the band structure of SC KCl:Cu to directly compare
with the band structure of the primitive cell (PC) of pristine KCl. To
understand the effect of Cu substitution on optical absorption, we calculated
the imaginary part of the dielectric function of KCl:Cu through a
sum-over-states formalism and broke it down into different band contributions
by partially making an iterated cumulative sum (ICS) of selected valence and
conduction bands. As a result, we identified those interband transitions that
give rise to the absorption peaks due to the Cu ion. These transitions include
valence and conduction bands formed by the Cu-3d and Cu-4s electronic states.
To investigate the effects of doping position, we consider different doping
positions, where the Cu dopant occupies all the substitutional sites replacing
host K cations. Our results indicate that the doping position's effects give
rise to two octahedral shapes in the geometric structure. The distorted-twisted
octahedral square bipyramidal geometric-shape induces a difference in the
crystal field splitting energy compared to that of the perfect octahedral
square bipyramidal geometric-shape.Comment: 39 total pages, 30 article, and 9 references. There are 19 figures

Effect of an Exogenous Phytase on Growth Performance in Growing Holstein Calves
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect on the productive performance, apparent digestibility of DM, serum phosphorus and phosphorus balance in Holstein calves which received a high concentrate diet with different doses of exogenous phytase for a period of 60d. The experiment was conducted with a completely randomized design with three treatments of eight calves each, the treatment included dietary supplementation of exogenous phytase at 0, 12 and 24 g/ton. Phytase inclusion increased (P0.05) on DM intake, feed conversion and DM digestibility. Adding phytase in the diet decreased phosphorus excretion in faeces (P<0.05) showing a significant linear increase with increasing level of supplementation (the values being 9.96, 9.14 and 8.13 g/d) which, in turn, increased the P retention (4.69, 5.37 and 6.45 g/d, resectively, for the three groups). In conclusion, supplementation of phytase could improve the growth performance of calves without any discernible effects on feed intake or digestibility of nutrients
Linear frictional forces cause orbits to neither circularize nor precess
For the undamped Kepler potential the lack of precession has historically
been understood in terms of the Runge-Lenz symmetry. For the damped Kepler
problem this result may be understood in terms of the generalization of Poisson
structure to damped systems suggested recently by Tarasov[1]. In this
generalized algebraic structure the orbit-averaged Runge-Lenz vector remains a
constant in the linearly damped Kepler problem to leading order in the damping

Analysis of Key Features of Non-Linear Behavior Using Recurrence Plots. Case Study: Urban Pollution at Mexico City
ABSTRACT The use of Recurrence plots have been extensively used in various fields. In this work, Recurrence Plots (RPs) investigates the changes in the non-linear behaviour of urban air pollution using large datasets of raw data (hourly). This analysis has not been used before to extract information from large datasets for this type non-linear problem. Two different approaches have been used to tackle this problem. The first approach is to show results according to monitoring network. The second approach is to show the results by particle type. This analysis shows the feasibility of using Recurrence Analysis for pollution monitoring and control
Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry:Workshop Summary
This document presents a summary of the 2023 Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry Workshop hosted by CERN. The workshop brought together experts from around the world to discuss the exciting developments in large-scale atom interferometer (AI) prototypes and their potential for detecting ultralight dark matter and gravitational waves. The primary objective of the workshop was to lay the groundwork for an international TVLBAI proto-collaboration. This collaboration aims to unite researchers from different institutions to strategize and secure funding for terrestrial large-scale AI projects. The ultimate goal is to create a roadmap detailing the design and technology choices for one or more km-scale detectors, which will be operational in the mid-2030s. The key sections of this report present the physics case and technical challenges, together with a comprehensive overview of the discussions at the workshop together with the main conclusions
