Comparative analysis between FPA and COCOMO techniques for software cost estimation

    Get PDF
Software cost estimation is the process of predicting the effort required to develop a software system. The basic inputs for the software cost estimation are programs, size and set of cost drivers, while the output is effort in the form of person-month and cost. In this thesis, Function Point Analysis (FPA) and Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) have been used to estimate software project cost of two case studies. They are Web-Based Dog’s Diseases Diagnosis System (WBDDDS) and Sugar Bun Online Bakery System (SBOBSE). By using FPA, it was shown that for the WBDDDS, the person-month was 12.506 with the total cost of USD65,031.2 were estimated. While using COCOMO, it was shown that 16.286 persons-month with the total cost of USD 84,687.2 were estimated. However, for the SBDBSE, by using FPA, 19.62 persons-month with the total cost of USD102,024 were estimated. It also shown that 19.354 persons-month with the total cost of USD100,640.8 were estimated by using COCOMO. In conclusion, there are no best techniques to estimat 3 e cost for a project. Abstract Title: A study of in-store atmospherics impact on young consumers in fashion houses Date of the Seminar: June 4th 2008 Course: BUSM08. Master thesis in International Marketing & Brand Management Authors: Md. Abu Baker Siddique Masum Milan Filipovic Supervisor: Ulf Elg Keywords: In-store atmosphere, young generation, fashion houses. Thesis purpose: This thesis will find out the influences of the in-store environment in the fashion houses and it will be applicable for this sector. This research will provide information to develop a better in-store environment in fashion houses to attract more young people. Methodology: This thesis employs a qualitative strategy with a inductive approach and data has been collected from observations and interviews. Theoretical perspective: Two theoretical areas have been combined in this research paper. One is impact of environmental stimulus from MR model and another one is atmospherics concepts, which have constructed the theoretical framework. Empirical data: The empirical data have collected through observing and interviewing the young generation at different fashion houses in Lund and Helsingborg. Conclusion: The result indicates that atmospherics have a great impact on the buying behaviour of the young generation in fashion sector. Theoretically, this study has contributed to the existing theory by showing the atmospherics impact on the buying behaviour. More specifically, the retailers of this sector have to take consideration about some factors for example: store design, arranging the product to develop an attractive in-store environment

The study presented in this thesis is a case study analysis of decentralization and quality assurance in a decentralized set up of the Ugandan Primary Schooling. The research looked at how the monitoring and evaluation informed the policy formulation process to regulate quality assurance in a decentralized governance of primary education. The Study was positioned in the critical realist paradigm, interpretive in orientation and used both coding and thematic techniques to understand the teachers’, SMC members’, and officers’ (at district and ministry levels) experiences and perceptions of quality assurance in a decentralized set up. Data was gathered using interviews, document analysis and observation methods. The findings indicated that the study was affected by eleven themes: Management System and Leadership, Human Resource Management, Finance Administration and Management, Parenting and Nutrition, Politics, Motivation, Social Structures and Patterns, Legislative Process and Policies, Infrastructure Development and Management, Community Involvement in Education and Curriculum and Professionalism. The monitoring and evaluation system had a framework in which it operates, though there was no quality assurance policy to guide the provision of quality education. The study finally indicated that there are more threats in a decentralized set up that put Quality in danger. Secondly, there was absence of supervision/inspection in schools as there was no evidence to prove this due to absence of reports. However, document analysis indicated visits of officers to schools. Records management was a problem to schools. Decentralization was adopted at different levels by different countries to address specific problems identified in view of service delivery. Finally, though monitoring and evaluation results informed the policy and decision makers, there was no quality assurance policy to guide the provision of quality education in institutions

Research on writing strategy use in Arabic as a foreign language is still in starting point. Few studies have contracted on essay written in Arabic as a final product and illustrated deficiencies that surfaced.  This study investigated the writing strategies employed by 6 learners in Fathih institute of Sri Lanka (FISL). Qualitative research conducted through the think aloud protocol; observation and retrospective interview for provide the facts.  Performance results on pilot study revealed that proficient learner employed varieties of writing strategies rather than average learner and less proficient learners on their essay writing task. The findings revealed that there is still a lot to be done to improve the Arabic writing skill of Sri Lankan learners. The implications of the results are that, teachers need to rethink about the problems that average and less proficient students were encountered and then try to figure out a way to help them. Also, need to help them how to make their place and organize their opinions more reasonably in writing activities. Keywords: Arabic Language, cognitive, essay, writing strategy, foreign languag

A PROPOSED NEW CONTEMPORARY VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE AS AN EXPRESSION OF THE SPIRIT OF AGE-DESIGN PRINCIPLES: A CASE STUDY OF AJLOUN, JORDAN

The development in technology and economy has led to rapid changes in architectural products. This development has effects, not only on the modern countries, but also on the developing countries, which are historically and culturally rich. Jordan is one of them. This paper investigates vernacular architecture and its approaches as conservative and interpretative attitude to explore the definition of vernacular architecture in contemporary architecture in Jordan. This was achieved by analyzing the \u27Royal Academy for Nature Conservation’ building, which has been designed by the architect, Ammar Khammash. Royal Academy for Nature Conservation project has been nominated for Aga Khan Award. Aga Khan Award is considered one of the most respected international awards in the field of architecture. The Research is conducted primarily by visiting the site of The Royal Academy for Nature Conservation Building in Ajloun a governorate in Jordan, to carry out the required analysis for the Project. The analysis will guide us through integrated and dynamic approaches to ensure that the vernacular architecture affect and enhance our world

Cancerous lung nodule detection in computed tomography images

Diagnosis the computed tomography images (CT-images) is one of the images that may take a lot of time in diagnosis by the radiologist and may miss some of cancerous nodules in these images. Therefore, in this paper a new novel enhancement and detection cancerous nodule algorithm is proposed to diagnose a CT-images. The novel algorithm is divided into three main stages. In first stage, suspicious regions are enhanced using modified LoG algorithm. Then in stage two, a potential cancerous nodule was detected based on visual appearance in lung. Finally, five texture features analysis algorithm is implemented to reduce number of detected FP regions. This algorithm is evaluated using 60 cases (normal and cancerous cases), and it shows a high sensitivity in detecting the cancerous lung nodules with TP ration 97% and with FP ratio 25 cluster/image
