    Get PDF
The aims of this study were to investigate the rancidity and chemical properties of oil palm decanter meal (OPDM) after been kept over an extended period of time. Samples were collected daily and analyzed for some rancidity properties, including peroxide value (PV) and thiobarbituric acid (TBA), and for chemical composition, including proximate analysis, fiber, mineral and fatty acid (FA) content. The correlation coefficient between time of storage and the rancidity (PV and TBA) of OPDM were positive with R2 of 0.9792 and 0.9678, respectively. During ten days of observation, the compositions of longchain FA, including stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic except for palmitic were significantly (P<0.05) different. The compositions of short-chain FA, including acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butiryc, isovaleric and valeric, were also significantly (P<0.05) different. Furthermore, PV and TBA were significantly (P<0.05) different during the extended time of 10-days storage. The correlation coefficient between PV and long-chain FA (palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic) were 0.61, 0.16, -0.82, -0.3 and -0.84, respectively, and the correlation composition between TBA and the composition of long-chain FA (palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic) were 0.40, 0.34, -0.91, -0.02 and 0.62, respectively. It could be summarized that physically and chemically, the fresh OPDM might be used as an alternative feed, especially for ruminant.Key word: Oil palm decanter meal, fatty acid, oxidation, rancidity, peroxide, thiobarbituric

    Method of assessing concurrent delays

    Get PDF
Construction delay claims are inevitable in most projects in the construction industry. It is rarely seen that a project completed without any adjustment on the completion time. Concurrent delay claims are the most disputed issue in the industry mainly because there is no uniform definition and lack of understanding on the concurrent delay itself. The objective of this research is to establish method of assessing concurrent delay which has been accepted and applicable in the court of law. The method of assessing extension of time which involves single event of delay are normally straight forward but when there are more than one causes of delay and often when one of the causes of delay are due to the contractor’s own fault and the other are a Relevant Event, the Extension of Time award are often disputed. This research is a critical analysis of selected journals which discussed issues of concurrent delay. Analysis has directed to the legal principles, approaches and method used in the practice and which have been tested in the court of law for assessing concurrent delay claims which is significant in assisting a contract administrator in evaluating concurrent delay claims in practice. The findings are expected to be useful as to encourage further references and studies. Further research in quantitative nature can be carried out in which case studies can be carried out in practice

Women are one of the most important resources for the sustainability of national development, they are a potential asset as the subject of development. These socio-economic problems trigger one of the reasons for women to work both as women with a single status and as married (mother and wife). The choice of THM as the last choice for women can provide maslahah for their family life. Makassar City is one of the cities with a significant THM development. Along with the development of the city of Makassar as a Metropolitan city towards the vision of a World city. However, working in a nightclub is a choice or a job option when faced with a situation. Women who work in nightclubs do not lose sight of the beliefs they have, the desire for a sufficient income and the lifestyle that triggers the work

A Comparative Modeling and Analysis of Voltage Variation by Using Spectrogram

    Get PDF
In this paper, the power quality (PQ) disturbance which is the voltage variations consist of voltage swell, sag and interruption are model and analyze. Different types of voltage variations PQ disturbances models are developed and created by using MATLAB/Simulink as well as mathematical models. The mathematical and Simulink model are used to compare in terms of time-frequency representation (TFR). The Simulink models include shutting down enormouscapacities from system to resemble voltage swell, large loads energizing and three-phase fault to simulate voltage sag as well as implementing permanent three-phase fault to simulate voltage interruption. The signals generated are analyzed by using linear time-frequency distribution (TFD). The signal parameters such as root mean square voltage (Vrms), total harmonic distortion (THD) and power value are estimated from the TFR to identify the characteristics of the voltage variation. The results of analysis on the PQ disturbance waveforms generated are identical to the actual real-time PQ signals and the models can be modified to any desired situation respectively. The PQ waveforms obtained are suitable to be further analyzed

Micropropagation and production of eurycomanone, 9- methoxycanthin-6-one and canthin-6-one in roots of Eurycoma longifolia plantlets

    Get PDF
Eurycoma longifolia or Tongkat Ali is a well known medicinal plant in Malaysia. The plants are used as main portion in herbal preparation, and have been extensively harvested. Generally, most of the raw materials required by the industries are heavily collected from the natural forests, thereby resulting in the uncontrolled exploitation of the plant in the wild. Hence, there is a need to ensure adequate supply of quality E. longifolia for the use of the related industries and for conservation purposes. Micropropagation has proved to be an alternative for the multiplication of medicinal and aromatic plants and it can allow the future commercial use of E. longifolia in the herbal industries. In this study, E. longifolia plantlets were successfully mass-produced using axillary shoot multiplication techniques, and the production of eurycomanone, 9-methoxycanthin-6-one and canthin-6-one compounds of E. longifolia were detected in roots of tissue culture plantlets.Key words: E. longifolia, Tongkat Ali, micropropagation, eurycomanone, 9-methoxycanthin-6-one, canthin-6- one
