    Failure Investigation of a Steel Pipe

    This paper presents an investigation of a steel pipe failure. The pipe was retrieved from a car cooling system The failure involved some pin holes that cause leakage of liquid coolant of radiator. The corrosion attacks the internal wall of the pipe to the outside and caused the pin hole. The objectives of this project are to find to cause of radiator pipe failure, to apply the knowledge as a mechanical engineering student as well as to recommend the way to improve the pipe service in radiator. In this paper, the pipe failure is investigated by examination the failed steel pipe using several methods such as, visual inspection, microscopy inspection, scanning electron microscopy inspection and energy dispersive spectrographic inspection. A series of failure analyses and nondestructive examination were performed to identify the possible causes of the failures. From the examination, it shows that the sample experienced internal corrosion before the major failure happened. Thorough failure investigation is essential for the effective of radiator system and reliability of the engine. The pin holes are highly probable occurred from internal part of the pipe due to corrosive level of radiator liquid coolant

    Identification of unnatural variation in manufacturing of hard disc drive component

    Hard disc drive (HDD) is known as a main device in a computer. In order to produce a high quality HDD, the source of unnatural variation need to be identified and controlled during manufacturing operation. In this research, simulation and modeling approach was utilized for analyzing the statistical process control (SPC) chart patterns of unnatural variation associated to its root cause error. Initially, the computer aided design (CAD) software was used to model a HDD component and to analyze the source of unnatural variation in manufacturing operation. Then, the artificial data streams for SPC were generated mathematically using MATLAB programming. The process started with normal (in-control) condition and can be followed by sudden shifts when there is a disruption of unnatural variation such as loading error, offsetting in cutting tool, and inconsistency in pneumatic pressure. The design parameters of artificial data streams can be manipulated in terms of window size (WS, length of data streams), magnitude of shifts (Sigma, size of unnatural variation), initial point of shifts (IS), and cross correlation (p) for bivariate data. The results indicated that the generation of artificial data streams can be adapted effectively to various condition of unnatural variation. Generally, this research has provided useful methodology for a quality practitioner in identifying the source of unnatural variation based on the SPC chart patterns

Mengkaji kemudahan-kemudahan yang disediakan oleh pawagam-pawagam untuk pengguna seperti tempat letak kereta, kedai-kedai makan, tandas, keselamatan dari kemalangan dan kecemasan, tempat duduk, papan tanda dan sebagainya. Moral: Dapat menilai dasar perancangan pawagam dan menetapkan suatu piawaian yang sesuai. 3. Mengkaji dari aspek fisikal, sosial dan ekonomi kesan sampingan dari pawagam keatas kegunaan-kegunaan tanah lain yang berhampiran seperti bangunan-bangunan kedai dan pusat membeli-belah, bangunan-bangunan pejabat, tempat beribadat, sekolah, hospital dan kawasan perumahan.     Architectural value for urban tourism placemaking to rejuvenate the cityscape in Johor Bahru

    This study aims to investigate the social significance of urban placemaking in shaping the architectural values of the cityscapes for sustainable tourism. The Johor Bahru City Centre was developed with explicit intention to have public open spaces that can encourage tourism activities in the urban area. Cultural and natural resources are essential to make the tourism industry grow successfully. Historical and archaeological sites also become a part of tourist attraction such as museums, state landmarks, parks, sculptures, monuments and others. In this respect, the architectural values of the city are the tangible assets that the city has, while the cultural and natural values are the intangible assets that can be captured from places that shape tourist perception. Placemaking supports the concept of generating places that improve the relationship between users and space, by increasing the sense of place. This is where the values of architecture must be preserved in order to maintain the identity of the region. Based on an extensive review of the literature and empirical works, this research examines Johor Bahru by extracting its similarities and differences with cities in Singapore and Australia, to derive at a better understanding of the significance of the architectural value and urban tourism placemaking in rejuvenating the city values attached to physical spaces. The benchmarking study analyses the values of architecture and discusses the advantages resulting from various architectural characters in tourism. These relationships are essential to understanding the role of architectural value for urban tourism placemaking in rejuvenating the city. This study found that there is a complex nature of the generations of architectural elements through placemaking

    Taguchi method for development of mass flow rate correlation using hydrocarbon refrigerant mixture in capillary tube

    The capillary tube is an important control device used in small vapor compression refrigeration systems such as window air-conditioners, household refrigerators and freezers. This paper develops a non-dimensional correlation based on the test results of the adiabatic capillary tube for the mass flow rate through the tube using a hydrocarbon refrigerant mixture of 89.3% propane and 10.7% butane (HCM). The Taguchi method, a statistical experimental design approach, was employed. This approach explores the economic benefit that lies in studies of this nature, where only a small number of experiments are required and yet valid results are obtained. Considering the effects of the capillary tube geometry and the inlet condition of the tube, dimensionless parameters were chosen. The new correlation was also based on the Buckingham Pi theorem. This correlation predicts 86.67% of the present experimental data within a relative deviation of -10% to +10%. The predictions by this correlation were also compared with results in published literature

    The Covid-19 problem that continues to haunt public life impacts the implementation of religion in society. For this reason, faith has moved itself to overcome the prevention that has been carried out. Religion plays a significant role in regulating human life, so religious leaders are always expected to provide guidance and religious doctrine in responding to covid 19. The purpose of this study was to find out about the views of Islamic religious leaders and from religious doctrine itself in responding to the Covid pandemic. -19. The method used is the descriptive qualitative research method. Primary data sources are sources taken directly from religious organization figures such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Persatuan Islam, and Muhammadiyah. The secondary data sources are literature such as books, journals, and other scientific works to collect data systematically. Data analysis was carried out in several ways, namely data reduction, data presentation and verification. Religious institutions also have a role in the community in responding to the Covid-19 outbreak, namely moving in helping the community, providing solutions and contributing according to government regulations to the community. In matters of worship, the community must know whether the rules of congregational worship are allowed or not and whether other sacred places are allowed to be visited. It all goes into the role of religious institutions in guiding the community
