    Enhanced Arabic disaster data classification using domain adaptation

    Natural disasters, like pandemics and earthquakes, are some of the main causes of distress and casualties. Governmental crisis management processes are crucial when dealing with these types of problems. Social media platforms are among the main sources of information regarding current events and public opinion. So, they have been used extensively to aid disaster detection and prevention efforts. Therefore, there is always a need for better automatic systems that can detect and classify disaster data of social media. In this work, we propose enhanced Arabic disaster data classification models. The suggested models utilize domain adaptation to provide state-of-the-art accuracy. We used a standard dataset of Arabic disaster data collected from Twitter for testing the proposed models. Experimental results show that the provided models significantly outperform the previous state-of-the-art results

    Hadron masses are computed from quenched twisted mass lattice QCD for a degenerate doublet of up and down quarks with the twist angle set to pi/2, since this maximally twisted theory is expected to be free of linear discretization errors. Two separate definitions of the twist angle are used, and the hadron masses for these two cases are compared.     Electrocardiographic Left Ventricular Hypertrophy Among Gambian Diabetes Mellitus Patients

    Background: The global prevalence of diabetes and its complications is increasing worldwide. Its role in coronary heart disease has been linked with the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The present study aims to determine the prevalence of electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy (ECG-LVH) in adult diabetic subjects, its epidemiological and clinical correlates.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study involving 534 patients was conducted at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (formerly Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital), The Gambia. Four hundred and forty patients were included using a standard questionnaire. Anthropometry, laboratory investigations and electrocardiogram were carried out. We used the Lewis, Cornell, and Sokolow-Lyon Voltage criteria to define ECG-LVH. MinitabTM statistical software version 13.20 was used for analysis.Results: 146 (35.2%) patients had ECG-LVH using all 3 criteria and this prevalence was higher among women being 116 (79.5%). A generally high prevalence of overweight (155/37.4%) and obesity (119/28.6%) was observed among study participants, and both clinic-day systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) were significantly higher in those with ECG-LVH. Poor diabetes control was observed in both groups.Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of ECGLVH and it is especially so with combining multiple criteria, hence the need for screening. Clinic-day hypertension was associated with ECG-LVH hence the need for diagnosing and aggressive treatment of hypertension in patients with diabetes mellitus.Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, ECG-LVH, The Gambia, voltage criteri

    Background: Asymmetrical intrauterine growth restriction IUGR occurs when there is uteroplacental insufficiency. Sildenafil citrate phosphodiasterase-5 inhibito is a potent vasodilator, which selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase-5 and, as a consequence, enhances the action of cyclic guanosine monophosphate which is the second messenger of NO. Hence, the trial was used for improving uteroplacental perfusion through enhancing vasodilatation of myometrial small arteries boosting flow within uteroplacental bed. The aim was to evaluate the efficacy of adding sildenafil citrate to low dose aspirin in treatment of asymmetrical IUGR through its effect on uteroplacental blood flow guided by Doppler ultrasound.Methods: Our study was a prospective double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial. Recruitment of participating women was from the obstetric outpatient clinic of Aswan university hospital. 100 patients included in the study and randomized in two groups. The first group was 50 patients assigned sildenafil with low dose aspirin and the second group was 50 patients assigned placebo with low dose aspirin.Results: As regard the outcomes, the study demonstrated that using of SC and LDA were effective in increasing estimated fetal weight and in improvement of umbilical artery umbilical artery Doppler (UAD) indices RI and PI for pregnancy complicated with IUGR compared with the control group.Conclusions: Sildenafil citrate is a promising treatment for IUGR fetuses with prolongation of pregnancy and improvement of fetal birth weight, umblical Doppler indices UDI, decreases days needed in PCU

    Significance of the Genomic Landscape of a De Novo Endocrine-Resistant Metastatic Hormone Receptor–Positive Breast Cancer

    Endocrine therapy with or without CDK4/6 inhibitors is the most commonly used frontline treatment option for metastatic hormone receptor–positive breast cancer. Approximately, 25% to 30% of women may have resistance to endocrine therapy, especially in the setting of certain genomic mutations in the tumor. This prompts the need to identify those patients who may benefit from frontline chemotherapy over endocrine therapy. Here, we present a case of a patient who presented with a de novo metastatic hormone receptor–positive breast cancer with visceral involvement (including bone marrow) as well as multiple somatic genomic alterations. The patient was treated with upfront chemotherapy, resulting in clinical and radiographic response, but rapidly progressed when she was transitioned to hormonal therapy. This report focuses on the role of upfront chemotherapy in the setting of visceral crisis including bone marrow involvement, the role of genomic alterations in contributing to endocrine resistance, and the need for biomarker-driven treatment options for hormone receptor–positive breast cancer

    Solitary, Explosive, Rational and Elliptic Doubly Periodic Solutions for Nonlinear Electron-Acoustic Waves in the Earth’s Magnetotail Region with Cold Electron Fluid and Isothermal Ions

    A theoretical investigation has been made of electron acoustic wave propagating in unmagnetized collisionless plasma consisting of a cold electron fluid and isothermal ions with two different temperatures obeying Boltzmann type distributions. Based on the pseudo-potential approach, large amplitude potential structures and the existence of Solitary waves are discussed. The reductive perturbation method has been employed to derive the Korteweg-de Vries equation for small but finite amplitude electrostatic waves. An algebraic method with computerized symbolic computation, which greatly exceeds the applicability of the existing tanh, extended tanh methods in obtaining a series of exact solutions of the KdV equation, is used here. Numerical studies have been made using plasma parameters close to those values corresponding to Earth’s plasma sheet boundary layer region reveals different solutions i.e., bell-shaped solitary pulses and singularity solutions at a finite point which called “blowup” solutions, Jacobi elliptic doubly periodic wave, a Weierstrass elliptic doubly periodic type solutions, in addition to the propagation of an explosive pulses. The result of the present investigation may be applicable to some plasma environments, such as earth’s magnetotail region and terrestrial magnetosphere

    Background: Many causes of portal vein thrombosis are described and most patients had a combination of local and systemic risk factors. In many studies, prtothombotic disorders investigations were conducted in various departments of haematologies and/or gastroenterology. In this study, we investigated the systemic risk factors associated or not to abdominal inflammation in a series of patients recruited in a department of Internal Medicine. Methods: We studied, retrospectively from 2005 to 2009, 21 cases of patients with portal vein thrombosis. Patients with cancer are not included in this study. Results: We reported 21 patients with portal vein thrombosis: 8 males (43%) and 13 females (57%). The average age of patients was 46, 6 years (20; 59). Eight (8) patients had abdominal inflammatory pathology and 21 (100%) patients had systemic prothrombotic factors. This etiologic investigation is rentable because in 18 cases, abdominal inflammation and/or prothombotic disorders are diagnosed. This diagnostic, however, can permit to discuss a specific management. Conclusion: Extensive investigation of prothrombotic disorders is necessary in portal vein thrombosis, although if local abdominal inflammation exist

    Spirulina is a micro algae used for thousands of years due to its healing properties. We supplemented children suffering from sickle cell anemia in order to appreciate its impact on the anthropometrical and clinical parameters. It consisted of a randomized clinical double blind test which was carried during a period of 9 months. The study concerned 53 homozygotes children suffering from sickle cell anemia aged 6 months to 15 years. Also, they were visiting the National Hospital of Niamey for follow up. One group (28 children) received 5 g of spirulina daily, and the other group (25 children) received placebo. The aspects studied were: the number of hospitalizations and transfusions, the vaso-occlusive crisis, the body mass index, and the splenomegalia. We found that 84.90% of patients were hospitalized at least once and 45.3% of them have already been transfused. The average number of crisis has greatly decreased in the spirulina group from 2.75 before the study to 1.18 at the end of the study. This, thus, was observed when compared to 2.44 to 1.6 in the placebo group. We also noticed a decrease of the number of hospitalizations and the number of transfusions which is less important in the group supplemented with spirulina. In conclusion, this study showed that supplementation in spirulina had a significant impact on children suffering from sickle cell anemia. This is even despite the fact that the difference between the two groups is not significant in some cases

    Greater local cooling effects of trees across globally distributed urban green spaces

    Urban green spaces (UGS) are an effective mitigation strategy for urban heat islands (UHIs) through their evapotranspiration and shading effects. Yet, the extent to which local UGS cooling effects vary across different background climates, plant characteristics and urban settings across global cities is not well understood. This study analysed 265 local air temperature (TA) measurements from 58 published studies across globally distributed sites to infer the potential influence of background climate, plant and urban variables among different UGS types (trees, grass, green roofs and walls). We show that trees were more effective at reducing local TA, with reductions 2–3 times greater than grass and green roofs and walls. We use a hierarchical linear mixed effects model to reveal that background climate (mean annual temperature) and plant characteristics (specific leaf area vegetation index) had the greatest influence on cooling effects across UGS types, while urban characteristics did not significantly influence the cooling effects of UGS. Notably, trees dominated the overall local cooling effects across global cities, indicating that greater tree growth in mild climates with lower mean annual temperatures has the greatest mitigation potential against UHIs. Our findings provide insights for urban heat mitigation using UGS interventions, particularly trees across cities worldwide with diverse climatic and environmental conditions and highlight the essential role of trees in creating healthy urban living environments for citizens under extreme weather conditions
