Predictive information in Gaussian processes with application to music analysis
This is the author's accepted manuscript of this article. The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-40020-9.Lecture Notes in Computer ScienceLecture Notes in Computer ScienceWe describe an information-theoretic approach to the analysis of sequential data, which emphasises the predictive aspects of perception, and the dynamic process of forming and modifying expectations about an unfolding stream of data, characterising these using a set of process information measures. After reviewing the theoretical foundations and the definition of the predictive information rate, we describe how this can be computed for Gaussian processes, including how the approach can be adpated to non-stationary processes, using an online Bayesian spectral estimation method to compute the Bayesian surprise. We finish with a sample analysis of a recording of Steve Reich’s Drummin
Fundamental limits for non-contact transfers between two bodies
We investigate energy and momentum non-contact exchanges between two
arbitrary flat media separated by a gap. This problem is revisited as a
transmission problem of individual system eigenmodes weighted by a transmission
probability obtained either from fluctuational electrodynamics or quantum field
theory. An upper limit for energy and momentum flux is derived using a general
variational approach. The corresponding optimal reflectivity coefficients are
given both for identical and different media in interaction.Comment: accepted in Phys. Rev. B rapid communicatio
General decay of the solution for a viscoelastic wave equation with a time-varying delay term in the internal feedback
In this paper we consider a viscoelastic wave equation with a time-varying
delay term, the coefficient of which is not necessarily positive. By
introducing suitable energy and Lyapunov functionals, under suitable
assumptions, we establish a general energy decay result from which the
exponential and polynomial types of decay are only special cases.Comment: 11 page
Analysis of a diffusive effective mass model for nanowires
We propose in this paper to derive and analyze a self-consistent model
describing the diffusive transport in a nanowire. From a physical point of
view, it describes the electron transport in an ultra-scaled confined
structure, taking in account the interactions of charged particles with
phonons. The transport direction is assumed to be large compared to the wire
section and is described by a drift-diffusion equation including effective
quantities computed from a Bloch problem in the crystal lattice. The
electrostatic potential solves a Poisson equation where the particle density
couples on each energy band a two dimensional confinement density with the
monodimensional transport density given by the Boltzmann statistics. On the one
hand, we study the derivation of this Nanowire Drift-Diffusion Poisson model
from a kinetic level description. On the other hand, we present an existence
result for this model in a bounded domain

Trace anomalies for Weyl fermions: too odd to be true?
We review recent discussions regarding the parity-odd contribution to the
trace anomaly of a chiral fermion. We pay special attention to the perturbative
approach in terms of Feynman diagrams, comparing in detail the results obtained
using dimensional regularization and the Breitenlohner--Maison prescription
with other approaches.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures. Contribution to "Avenues of Quantum Field Theory

Knowledge management system quality:a survey of knowledge management system quality dimensions
The knowledge management systems are becoming more complex and diverse as a result of advances in information technology. Nowadays, users demanding for more accurate and reliable KMS systems increases the awareness and need of KMS quality. To enhance KMS quality the quality dimensions should be identified first.
This paper focuses on investigating the quality dimensions of related KMS work namely: software quality dimensions, data quality dimensions, information quality dimensions and knowledge systems quality dimensions. The extracted quality dimensions will be proposed as the basis of KMS quality dimensions that will be mapped with KM processes to produce the KMS quality framework
